It has come to my attention that .exe files do not work on Mac computers. Is there a convenient way to create an executable that will work on a Mac?

I am in the process of creating a game, which I will challenge YouTube people to play. However, one of the people on my challenge list only has a Mac, and therefore this is a problem for him.

Any help would be great.

Game Maker for Mac is currently in development. Until it is released.. there is no way for this person to play your game on a mac.

There is currently a beta out (as far as i know). Also, you will need a mac in order to create a mac executable. There is currently no way to create a mac executable from the windows game maker.

The lastest news about the mac beta can be read about on the yoyogames glog. Here is a link to the last entry regarding it: http://glog.yoyogames.com/?p=572

Gamemaker was originally a Windows only program, Because of DirectX and such.

So when GM gets ported to the Mac, will it use OpenGL?

Most likely, yes, since it currently uses DirectX which is Windows-only, unless there is some DirectX emulator for OS X somewhere in the vast internet.

Well that's got to bring up some problems sleep.gif porting DirectX to OpenGL is going to be tough for YYG. Oh well... smile.gif
I don't think they will be using any third party emulators, after all, GM is a commercial product.

There is a public beta and it's working nicely.

Yeah, I've tried that, but there are still bugs with surfaces and d3d (or well, now it should be called ogl tongue.gif )

Just because something's commercial, doesn't mean you can't cut corners! tongue.gif
Going from dX to OGL could be tough, but an emulator would make it much easier! Though I'm not quite sure if one exists... [searches on Google]

Just so everyone understands the situation, I'm trying to find a way for my friend to be able to PLAY my game once it is done. So what I'm looking for is maybe some sort of converter that transforms a .exe file into something that can be run on a Mac.

Of course we understand the situation.

It's you who doesn't understand the situation. Executables designed for Windows simply can't be converted to the Mac.

Think about it a second. If one could simply convert Windows programs to Mac, then effectively ALL windows programs could also be converted. That's obviously not the case.

Just because you don't get the answer you want, doesn't mean mean people don't understand the situation.
