Yet Another Programming Community

While Shaltif was a local moderator, he decided to allow and participate in the development of a community separate from the GMC that allowed for the discussion of outside programming languages. After a short run, the community was shut down due to website hosting issues. After seeing a reasonable demand (quite a few posts) for a forum that allows for non-GML discussion, I have decided to resurrect the idea - this is the result. This will hopefully route all of the posts asking for help with non-GML programming languages away from the GMC where they do not belong.

Keep in mind that there will be substantial changes made to this community as it grows (e.g. adding or removing boards, adding or removing features...). I'm interested in your feedback for improvements - please let your opinions be heard! Post suggestions on YAPC, not here on the GMC. Also, please report any glitches you may find in the topic created for that purpose.

Nice, looks really cool. (I almost didn't notice, seeing as it's a pinned topic tongue.gif)
Perhaps get one of the administrators to post in the announcements forum?

No.

Also, I find it quite odd that a forum gets stickied in the Extending Game Maker section while the others are left to die in the battleground that is the website announcement forum.

Neat, I'll register now smile.gif
(thought i don't see the original programming community anywhere...)

I hope that you will add subforum "shading languages" (CG, HLSL, GLSL, GPU assembler)

Yes, yes, yes -- great idea.

Awesome! Finally, I was looking for a simple forum to join regarding other languages. Thank you Roach!

If you have a problem with that, you can regard it as a perk of a global moderator and a personal reward for all the free-of-charge time he's put in keeping this forum running (and will probably allso be putting in making the other forum a success as well).

And yes, there are differences (albeit few) between members and (local) moderators, administrators and such. smile.gif

The Banner is a bit too Big...I scaled it down a bit.

Hope you don't mind wink1.gif

I always said that the website announcement forum should have topic moderation in place so we don't get an accumulation of junk in that place. Websites that provide services or are otherwise useful to GMC members are the only kind of websites I think should be permitted to be posted in there. That would mean that this topic wouldn't need to be sticked and wouldn't look like favoritism.

Still though, I suggested that years ago and still hasn't been done. It looks like GMC members will still have to wade through the piles of crap websites in that forum for some time yet.

So Few Replies in this topic Proves that Pinned topics are invisible to members...Maybe there should be a way to make the title Bold and red?

Yes, I must admit that I read the normal topics before moving to the stickied ones, and people often ignore them altogether. dry.gif

Anyway, regarding the site, it looks okay, and I like how its not a 'All Game Maker' forum, so I can discuss my second favourite language, PHP biggrin.gif
I think the colours are a bit plain besides the top banner though, but its probably just fine.
And I guess you have to put it here because its a forum, so you'd be breaking the rules to put it in the website announcements section tongue.gif

Good work! biggrin.gif

It probably does a good job of keeping out the noobs who wouldn't read stickied rules wink1.gif

I must admit the only reason I just saw this thread was because it had the latest reply and I saw it from the main forum listing. I guess I usually ignore pinned topics because they rarely change and I've already read all the forum rules and whatnot.

Anyway, it's a cool idea. I hope it's successful and turns into a great resource!

Cool. By the way, a forum on GMC dealing with other programming languaces having a bond with GML should be OK.
Revel
Well that was fun while it lasted.

Indeed sadly. :/
