Ok, here are some (hopefully helpful) suggestions:
-Do the tutorials.
Here is a link to them. Do 4 of them, from "Your first game" to "Platform games".
-Design a game. Don't just "make" it, design it. Have a story (even a basic one like "save the princess"), graphics, background and enemies.
-Don't expect your first couple games to be good, and don't expect people to want to play them. They're just for you to learn to use GM. Don't worry about making your first game into a series, it's really just for you to learn from.
-Once you start getting comfortable, start trying to learn GML. It's just like D&D, but D&D gives you less options and takes up more space.
Edit: Also: Read the manual for Game Maker. It's actually really well-written and helpful. Start at the beginning.
