Hi,

I have a serious problem. I can't run any GM game whatsoever on vista. Whenever I start one, I get a simple "xyzzy has stopped working." error. No more, no less.. Here's my DXDiag's important parts: http://tbos.pastebin.com/m4f55320

Thanks,
Troy

The problem with Vista seems to be that there's no good old DrWatson around to at least tell us which module crashed, something that normally helps when looking for solutions.

I'm not familiar with Vista, but I found on a site a way to get more details about the crash: Go to your Control Panel, > System and Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions > View Problem History. Then highlight the crash in the list, right click it and choose View Problem Details. There should be some options there to get more details.

Hokay, this is what I get from trying "Coilfighter":

Seems the crash appears deep in the OS. It's difficult to tell what causes it, since a lot of modules in the game application may use it. It could be anything: a corrupted kernel file, faulty drivers, to a bug in Game Maker. Since the crash doesn't happen for other Vista users, a likely cause could be a device driver issue. But that's just a wild unsupported guess - if this was the case I would expect you would suffer crashes in some other applications or non-GM games as well.

That's very true, sometimes when I reboot my computer and play certain games before installing my sound drive, those games won't play until I install the drive, then they play fine, so it can definitely be driver or software problems.

Is that game by chance a Gamemaker6.1 game?

go into your task manager and select "spoolsv.exe" and End Process.

This should fix the problem.

Thank you so much! It fixed it! lmaosmiley.gif

EDIT: Hmm, I have to kill the program every time I want to run a game :| At least that's a quick registry change!

EDIT2: Hehe, that worked!

As long as you don't do any printing on that machine, then ending spoolsv.exe should cause no issues.

Heh, I think that was the problem: no printer was attached whistle.gif

*suddenly remembers he had an account here before and remembers all the admins and mods as of 2007..

spoolsv.exe run regardless of a printer being attached or even having one installed.
