Full Version: Run Jump [v. 1.2, 10/21/09]

One-hit deaths. Fiendish-but-fair level design. Spikes. Lasers. Robots. Isn't that what action gaming is really about?

You'll find all five of these must-have elements in RUN JUMP, the new platformer from Tom Russell, perhaps best known around these parts for the five issues of Russell's Quarterly, The Free Online Magazine of Video Game Design.

RUN JUMP is platforming reduced to its simplest and purest elements-- there's no story, no weapons, no power-ups. Just moving from one side of a room to another, from one room to another, from one level to the next, overcoming obstacles with deftly-timed jumps. There's more to it than that, of course; not only can the player's robot wall jump, but she can stick to and move along any ceiling in the game. There are no exceptions to this rule: every wall can be bounced on, every ceiling can be clung to, and through a liberal use of both abilities, every obstacle can be overcome.

It does work. Try moving the robot towards the new game icon with the arrow keys.

Prolly should put something about the arrows on the menu to make it more intuitive...

7/10/09: Fixed collision errors in Speedrun versions of 3-2 & 4-2. Thanks to my friend "Weebaa McEntire" for reporting the bug.

Version 1.2:

* eliminates the voice-over that everyone except me seemed to despise;
* unlocks the making-of notes from the beginning of the game;
* eliminates the more-or-less pointless speedrun mode;
* and basically knocks 2.1 MB off the file size.

Hope you enjoy!
