Marble Drop

By Old School Gaming

The name says it all: a game where you drop marbles, and try to get as high a score as possible.

Keep in mind that this is a casual game (which I started on only a few hours ago), so don't expect something epic. (Really it's just a desktop minigame smile.gif)

Anywho, enjoy (and remember to give me feedback!)

UPDATE as of 4-18-09:
-Fixed infinite bounce of ball on peg. (Still happens occasionally; working on that)
-ball cursor in marble drop zone.

Crashed for me -- sat there doing nothing no matter what I pressed or clicked. sad.gif

You have to click above the frame to drop a marble...

Anyways, fun little game, the highest I could seem to get was 60.

My bad -- but it might have been a little clearer. I remember trying to get the physics right for bagatelle type games when I made the two pinball pandas (the second of which I am really proud of hint hint), and the easiest thing to clear one bug you have is to have a step event that checks the ball direction and if it is straight up (if direction = 90) to throw it off by a degree or two. I am sure most breakout games use the same trick. Otherwise you can get eternal bounces, which happened to me second time around.

Otherwise, I remain fond of this kind of game, and this is a clean and well presented example. Nicely done.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Yeah, I forgot to mention the 1 or 2 bugs this this game has (the biggest of which barrya3 hit right on the head; I was either going to do it the way you mentioned, or put in a "Tilt" option in the game--after you said that the firtst solution worked for you in Pinball Panda, I've decided to go with that one.)

Yeah, I've been thinking about how to make this a little clearer--either a marked-off area (a red rectangle with the words "click here"), or changing/altering the mouse curser when it moves over the proper area.

The highest score for me was like 90, so I didn't do too much better. smile.gif

It's easily done using the converter the game maker master him self released!

search for GM_Conver_Game and it should come up in google. I'm pretty sure I found it somewhere here on the forums though...

EDIT: Whoops its actually: GM_Convert_Game

hey, out of curiosity, how did you set up the ball to bounce?
I'm working on getting the structure down for a pachinko game, and I am trying to edit how much the ball bounces off the object..
I'm using Collision Event with object (used bounce precisely), but it bounces way too much, and ends up flying all over the board.. I also am using gravity to get the ball to drop. I know for side scrollers, you go with vspeed change, not gravity.. so should I not use gravity?

your ball and peg game seems very similar to what I'm shooting for, and would love some input.
