That was really cool!

Bit short though, it ended after I found Grandma.

Firstly, the sound was amazing. It fitted in and was very high quality.

Although it didn't make me jump, it certainly got my adrenaline pumping, but I knew what to expect in most places. You should put in some anticlimaxes, like that weird man in the dark room should be a dummy, but put a jumpy sound with its unveiling.

Apart from that it was very good and had some excellent scares in it and seriously messed up sh*t! (grandma and chris lol)

It really needed to be longer though. Making a third one?

That wasn't very good in my opinion, it was annoying to have to move the character close to objects to be able to click on them. Took me forever to find the first object. The character walked way to slow to force you to have to move near objects before you could even see if you could click on them.I'm also not a big fan of the "unexplainable random creepyness = surreal = art and therefore game is good unless you don't understand art." concept behind many games that have been getting attention recently.
I don't know it jsut didn't seem liek you put much effort into the game with the exception of a few sprites. If I had to break it down I'd go with
graphics 6/10 except the first creepy face thing wasn't bad
music 8/10 i will admit it did add atmosphere
gameplay 2/10 there was some explorartion but not much and nothing else
story 3/10 a lttle creative, but mostly random events that did not connect with each other and made no sence in the first place. However I understand this is supposed to be surreal so I give you some credit or comming up with what you got
overall 4/10 I just didn't liek it at all, if I hadn't already heard it was very short, I'd have stopped after 5 minutes

First off, with this statement, you're pointing out you don't understand this game, and you're saying it's bad because you should? I don't think it's fair to make that kind of statement, and then tell someone they didn't put any effort into the game dry.gif

Also, I really suck at this type of game, and have no idea what to do, but from what I can tell so far, it would be quite good if I did know what I was looking for whistle.gif

.. Obviously.

The screen resolution is too small for my computer, perhaps a windowed version?

While I do think the average person should understand a game that is presented to them, that is not what i meant. also i wasnt so much accusing him of putting no efort into it, as i was challenging him for somekind of responce. Most of these artsy games ive been seeing around the forums are pretty similar, and i dont see a point to them
the structure tends to be
you are thrown into a quite world with minimal instructions
you end up solving puzzles when you arent quite sure why
something unexplainable happens as a result of your actions, sometimes creepy sometimes not
you see the end result
Oftentimes when games liek this are praised, its becasue they hold some sort of moral or symbolic meanign at the end. I'm no expert, but I just dont see anykind of deeper meaning to this. The ending was abrupt and didnt actually end or explain what happened, instead the game jsut quits on you. And in ym case, i just felt a little sick after seeing that.

So I'm not saying I think the game is bad because I don't undrstand it, I'm saying i think its bad becasue I think I understand as much of it as you can without having the creator tell you what they were thinking when they designed it.

Oh what, so now games have to have a purpose? All games must be understandable?
How feeble. Next you're going to tell me every piece of visual art has to have some kind of deeper meaning.
A game is, simply put, something that puts the user in control. It doesn't have to be interesting or stimulating in any way.

You don't like the game, then fine. But don't try to apply some kind of arbitrary formula that you've concocted about 'what makes an art game' in an effort to justify your dislike. smile.gif
Keiferr
Although short, it grabbed my attention, and easily would've held it for 5 times as long as I spent playing it if it had been longer.

Props on the art and music. They coincided very well. Personally, I didn't thing the "scary" art was that good. Seemed rather childish. But overall, nice gem you got here. happy.gif
Wombat
Yes, the art definitely isn't the scariest thing out there. Maybe even laughable at times.

Thanks for calling it a "gem", although I probably wouldn't take it that far smile.gif

I thought the graphics where childish and charming in a way. Certainly a positive thing.

Yes, primarily because I couldn't draw realistic-looking graphics for the life of me, so going cartoony was the only way out... rolleyes.gif

Also, I was told a couple weeks back that apparently Rigby's husband's name is 'Eric' on the intro screen and 'Chris' in-game... shows how much effort I put into this. dry.gif
syth184
Well i wasn't saying it had to have some kind of deeper meaning, but if there was no deeper meaning, then there wasn't much there. So i took a guess. However now that you state there isn't a deeper meaning at all and its jsut what it is, then i go back to say that this game requires more work and effort
Wombat
If we follow your reasoning (that having no meaning means that there's 'not much there'), it would mean that there is also 'not much there' to a good deal of abstract visual art that has been created over the past 50-60 decades or so.

You keep bringing up the idea that a game must either be meaningful or at least understandable, but I say 'nay'. As long as you understand the mechanics, the content of the game shouldn't matter. Or, if it will placate you, just think of it as a trip into my messed up mind.
wa1do_13
Very true, games don't even need to make sense (how the heck do you think Mario got popular?).

This game's pretty cool so far- but I got stuck immediately. You can click on Chris, who tells you to hurry up. On the next screen you can click on a sign that says "Rigby Mansion". On the next screen you can click on a skull-type thing, which just breaks and appears to have no other meaning. On the next screen the door is blocked by vines. On the next screen the lid is locked. I'm out of ideas, I hope it's my own stupidity. tongue.gif
Wombat
There's a tiny clue in the area where the pot is, it's really REALLY small so I don't blame you for not catching on to it. rolleyes.gif

Interesting game, if you make a longer adventure game in the same fashion/style that would be fantastic. :]
