GM Benchmark
News
September 4th 2008
GM Benchmark 1.1 released. Fixed a problem that gave low end computers higher scores then what they deserved.
Also included gStresser, which will stress your cpu and gpu. This is for people who like testing things a lot.GM Benchmark is a tool meant for showing how well your computer can run GM games.
You can use this software to compare your computer to your friends, and gain bragging rights with high scores.
Using GM Benchmark you can also see if you can run certain games or not, as soon we will have Recommended and Required scores for popular GM games.
To use this tool all you have to do is check what you want to test (CPU = Processor -- GPU = Graphics Card) and then just click the Start Benchmark button. When the test is complete, you will be given 2 scores, one for your Graphics Card/GPU and one for your Processor/CPU.
If you would like me to make a recommend/required score for your game, please PM me.
This was programmed in GM7 Pro, and is Vista Compatible.
As far as my testing has shown so far, your scores will not be affected by weather you have Vista or XP. But no older versions of windows have been tested.
After trying it, please post your Processor and Graphics Card, along with your scores.
Example--
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4850
GPU Score: 681034
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500
CPU Score: 446201
This will help me make the Recommended/Required scores more accurate, by helping me find out what scores compare to what computers.
DownloadThank you for testing GM Benchmark.

Game Requirements--
-Blackwar 2020
Recommended
GPU-80000
CPU-40000
Comment-You should be able to get a solid 30fps with all graphic settings on high with these scores

What to expect in future versions
- RAM test
- Hard Drive test
- Possibly an internet test if I can find a server to use with a high upload speed.

but did it really test my cpu properly?
cpu usage never went above 50% for both cores during the entire test.

Game Maker is only single threaded, so no matter what it will only use 1 core.
But this program still does it's job perfectly because it's a benchmark meant for GM games.
Therefor the games will only got to 50%.

OK, I have added a Game Requirements section. This is for games that I have tested, to tell you how well your computer should be able to run the game, before you even try the game.
If you want me to test your game for the GMB Game Requirements, just PM me or leave a message on this thread, and link me to your game.
I am also looking for testers to help me out.
If you have any of the following, or close to it, and feel like helping out, Please PM me.
Pentium 3, 500mhz-1ghz - Pentium 4, 1.8ghz-2.6ghz or anywhere in between.
I am also looking for someone with
and older ATI radeon card - 8000 or 9000 series, or similar cards.
Or and older NVidia card, 6000 or 7000 series, or similar cards.
Thanks for your help.

It helps you by letting you have an easy way for all the people that play your game to know weather or not they can play it.
PM me with a link to your game and I will test it to get some scores.

@ Shining Saber, I have no clue why your graphics card got a higher score then mine. I'm using one of the top ATI cards out right now.
But thankyou for testing, and thanks for giving your scores.
@ Bobby F, If by throw a rod, you mean slowed down a lot. Thats normal, thankyou for submitting your results.

My only guess is it is because GM uses an older DX rendering engine, and my graphics card architecture is closer to DX8 than yours is.
EDIT : also, is there a way for you to have this program "evaluate" an EXE to make a minimum required score? It'd be really useful for us with higher-up pcs to make requirements for our games.

Well when I'm making requirements for my games, i use a program I made called gStresser. Which basically slows your computer down by the amount you set it to.
I run this while I'm running games, and i stress out my computer until I get an fps that would be playable but not great, and then I run GM Benchmark with that same amount of stress. And the score i get is the requirements, I do the same for the Recommended except for the recommended I only stress it until I get just a little under the actual room speed.
Basically gStresser just emulates me having a more crappy computer so I can actually test the games with my gaming machine, because I don't have an older computer, or a team of people with older computers.

Well, school starts tomorrow. Which means I have less time to work on this.
I'll still be availiable on weekends, and will still be continuing the project. Please PM me or leave a post on the topic, but I will only reply on weekends.

Not a bad idea!
my heap of... rear end waste got:
GPU: 691,247
CPU: 443,685
Thats an Ati Radeon x800 xl (256mb) and a AMD 3700+ running at 2.19GHz (anything else you want to know?)
A ram test would be the next most important test as hard drives tend to be the same speed (give or take a defrag and IDE vs SATA)
Also, it appears you have some sort of problem with your tester... My results above were from when i ran both CPU and GPU test at same time, when i ran them individually i get around 5,000 more for GPU and i get about 100,000 less for CPU.... 100,000 less doesnt seem right! I have run it both was (individual and together) several time and it comes out within about 5,000 each time!
Anyone else getting this huge difference when running them seperatly?

Hey, sharp instead of just being a jackass, why don't you say WHY it's a horrible benchmark. And give some tips, I'm always asking what needs to be improved.
And also, about the 1.1 download, I spelled the link wrong in the download, and the server redirected to the old 1.0 download thinking it was the closest match.
Fixed, you can now download 1.1

Sorry, but this has been put on hold due to school, and other projects.
I'll be continuing it later, please leave any suggestions so I'll have some things to add when I come back to it.

Hmmm, i don't like it, it neither tells the user how it works nor it shows the user any usefull progress and at the end you get a score and you still don't know anything about it.
Maybe improve the scoringsystem a little bit.... or have a look at the System-Force programs

Agreed. But, it is only because I don't think the maker understands what a benchmark is supposed to be. He probably just runs 10000 for loops and gives the user a score.
I guess it can be useful. Good for a beginner program. 4/10

Well, to you people saying it should be more like System Force, no. This is nothing like System Force, which is not a benchmark.
System Force tells you about your computer, this actually stress tests your computer to find it's performance.
Look at Futuremark's 3D Mark, which is just like this (except renders pretty things). It only gives you a score for Processor and Graphics card, nothing more. Yet it is the most popular benchmark for overclockers.
Do you guys get it now?

You didn't have to run gStresser, thats just for people who like experimenting.
Did you have GPU or CPU checked before running the test? It only gives you results for things you checked.

Ok. I just wanted to let everyone know, this hasn't been discontinued. It's going to be continued as a part of gSuite. My Computer Software package, which includes gBenchmark (This) gPrime, gStresser, and will include some new projects I'm working that haven't gotten started on yet. Thanks for the patience, and remember to keep posting suggestions. The more suggestions I get, the better I can make it.

I'm explicitly looking for a GM benchmark so this looks like exactly what I need. Unfortunately, the page is missing (404). Can you please, postpone the homework for several minutes and post a link?

please?
