Changes Listv1.3
- The weather panel now works for international locations and zip codes starting with zeros
- Some gadgets are now scalable
- The flip calendar actually shows a calendar now.
- A custom launcher has now been included, so that you may make a custom launcher in-game without having to edit the source file.
- The digiclock code has been re-written for speed improvements
- The buttons on the top right hand corner have been made smaller to allow for more room.
- The force to top option has been added.
- The dll that previously controlled the minimize and maximize functions has been dropped in favor of Game Maker's window_set_visible function. This improves speed and responsiveness of the program.
- The checkbox and finish button code has been re-written. Cpu usage in the configuration screen is much, much lower. Please update your lib file if you were using it in previous versions.
- There are no longer any confusing x or y offsets to be made when you create your own gadget/launcher, the tutorial has been updated accordingly.
v1.2
- fixed small weather panel bug
v1.1
- Corrected the location of the gm6 launcher
- fixed some of the code in the source file
v1.0
- Move Button
- Weather Gadget
- Music and Video Player
- Lib to easily make your own gadget.
- Themes for your Gadgets
- More Launchers
- Documentation & How to make your own gadget.
- Commenting code
- Open Source gm6 and gmk file, the exe will be compiled in gm7
v0.3: Very large speed boosts, uses less cpu cycles.

Thanks! It took about half a year to research (I found only one post in the entire gmc that had a link to download the transparency dll) and another half a year coding on and off.

A nice idea would be to have scripting, so people could make their own gadgets easily. Very nice though, and it takes up less resources than Vistas sidebar, I think.

It may work in Canada as well, I have yet to test it yet. I was unable to find a consistent xml or rss/atom feed for weather data outside the US.

Oops, I will fix that asap.

That is what the source and lib file is for, what could be easier then gml (a language most people already know)

You can, you just need a pro version of gm6 or gm7

This is actually very handy for windows XP comouters, although I wouldn't advise it on vista, because vista contains most of them features.

This is very nice. Maybe have an option to make it stay on top? Other than that, very nice. Not much to improve. What about making a "compact" version? Something smaller? And the weather info part should scroll. I could just edit the gm6...
edit: It's telling me I'm not connected to the internet. An I am, as you can see. I have no firewall.
edit: Wow, fixed already? You could set the option window_set_stayontop(1) in the game start.

Please remember that it uses gml, so most people on the gmc can start making gadgets right away, rather then having to go through learning other languages, etc.

I will look into a stay on top option.
Also updated to v1.2 (fixed weather panel bug)

Still notice one annoying bug. My zip code starts with a zero. And the weather gadget can't check my weather because of it.

Wow, very nicely done! I also like how it's open-ended for anyone to make their own gadgets.
Overall good, though I do agree that a compact version is the next step.

WOW REALLY NICE!!!! But you should have it so that people can see the weather around the world, eg. New York or Paris.

This will be fixed in the next release (will probably have more compact themes)
If you want it now change this in the object weatherpanel, create event, 1st code section:
CODE
zipcode=real(zipcode);
change to
CODE
if theme>1 theme=0;
and in the next code section replace
CODE
if zipcode=123456 or zipcode=0 or zipcode=-1{
change to
CODE
if zipcode="123456" or zipcode="0" or zipcode="-1"{
Thanks for catching that bug

Do you want something like this (actual size)?

As I said above, I was unable to find a good feed from somewhere that could do worldwide weather.

...I guess I'll have to wait for you to release a fixed version. Every time I try to edit the gm6, it messes up. The program doesn't show up when i run it. And yes, I did install the lib.

Thats weird
The only way I can think of this happening is if you compile on gm6, then transfer it to a vista computer
If you did do that, you would have to run it through
this. Or you are trying to run gm6 on vista.
Thats the only problems I can think of.

Some plans I have for the next version are
- Customizing gadget size
- moving gadgets across the entire screen, not just limiting it to a sidebar
- Launchers that you can customize in-game (choose the icon, hover icon, select a program to execute)
- Bug fixes
- Adding backgrounds

mrsmes, please for the love of god tell me that's sarcasm. There are no built in functions to get the weather or interface with windows this way.
Great program you've got here gamer freak! I can't wait to see where this is going in the future!

Sorry about the long wait folks, but school just started, and I had lots of things going on right before school (plus getting spore doesn't help) so I have hardly had any time at all to work on it.
Some things that are done:
- Custom Launchers that you can change in the program itself
- I have been fooling around with backgrounds, but I have discovered that the lag gets way to terrible for advanced shapes.
- Making it stretch across the whole screen produces way to much lag, so that idea was scraped.
- Fixed weather panel bug with zip codes that start with 0, plus it now supports international locations!!!!

Hm.
Pretty cool, but also a bit complex. Adding in new functions doesn't make it easier...
I'd rather have GML than all those new D&D things.

But it looks
great! You could probably sell this. xP
I look forward to using this regularly.

Wow, I can't believe people are still commenting on this. One thing I would say is that if I were to make this again, I would definitely use a screenshot dll rather than however this one works. For one thing, a screenshot dll would be much more elegant, and I also made this before I realized that you could add objects and events from files.
