Sixty Five Million And One BCWhen Dinosaurs Could Talk
From Bouncing Fox Productions

Sixty Five Million And One BC is a platform adventure about a bunch of velociraptors
trying to save the world from a comet.
You see, around about 65 million years ago, they reckon an enormous hunk of rock, 10 km across, hurtled down from space
and smacked rudely into what eventually became the Gulf of Mexico. It's what is generally thought
to have caused - or at least contributed to - the extinction of the dinosaurs.
Well guess what? The dinosaurs have gotten wind of this and they aren't too happy about it.
In Sixty Five Million And One BC you play a lean, green, smoothly animated velociraptor charged with trekking across
the Mesozoic world to gather parts for a dino-designed machine that will blow up the comet and save the world!
Simple, eh? Think again...

Genre: Platform / Adventure
Current Version: 1.2 - 5th May 2008
Demo File Size: 14 MB (no installers)
Resolution: Windowed 640 x 480
GM Version:
GM7
Demo download: 65millionand1bc_demo.zip
Trailer: Trailer2.mov
Website: www.65MillionAnd1BC.com
Game features:
- A whole bunch of moves. The raptor can walk, run, jump, backflip, climb walls, duck, crawl, swim, bite, tailwhip, pounce, ground-slam and carry objects. The controls are context-sensitive, so only two action keys are needed on top of the four direction ones.
- Graphics and animations - Each of the character's moves are fully animated, nothing is static! The graphics are all smooth and cartoony, as can be seen from the screenshots. Forest, plains, mountains and cave level stages all look very different from each other.
- Realistic interactions - Pounce an enemy and it flies backwards, sprawling, spinning and writhing! Slopes can be smoothly traveled over, vertical surfaces can be climbed and leapt off, delicate objects can be smashed.
- Particle effects - Ripply realistic splashes, speeding dust trails, drifting particles in sunbeams, and meteor trails. Particle effects can be switched on and off during gameplay for speed enhancement - but they aren't overpowering, so they shouldn't need to be!
- Speech system and cutscenes - The game is driven by speech between the characters, presented in cutscenes that can be advanced manually or skipped. During a cutscene, the screen letterboxes cinematically and the story advances through character actions and dialogue.
- Original soundtrack - The music is all high-quality ogg format, and each level stage and cutscene has its own music, all variating on a few main themes. Check out this page to hear it!
Sixty Five Million And One BC is the biggest Game Maker game I've made by a long way! It's taken two years to finish and it's entirely my own work - graphics, programming, music, dinosaur sounds... the whole lot is original. So I've decided to make it shareware! The full game costs US$ 10 to buy and can be downloaded from the game's website. I hope the price doesn't stress out too many people - I think it's pretty reasonable for the product of so much hard work
In case any of you remember it, this game is the indirect sequel to "Raptor", which received a warm welcome here in the GMC back in 2005. Well, Sixty Five Million And One BC is a much bigger, much longer, much better game! Have a look at the screenshots if you don't believe me...
Many thanks to all the people who supported 65M+1BC (then "raptor 2") through its long winding Work In Progress thread, and to the kind and thoroughly helpful testers: Hotshotscott, Adil Faqah, Tepi, Uber-Angus and Dark Star. You are truly friends of the dinosaurs.
The demo of Sixty Five Million And One BC is also hosted on Yoyo Games and has been entered into the Ancient Civilisations competition - these are pretty civilisaed dinosaurs, you see...

a very nice topic! not to mention that you didn't even mention all the strengths of this game: the high number of moves, the highly customizable controls, the genius puzzles, the outstanding humour, (the music and graphics)...
now anyone can steal your raptor sprite.
so your beta-testing complete...so I'm not needed anymore?

EDIT: one thing about the game I noticed: the continents of the earth are in the places where they are now, not where science would place them.

well I guess that's not gonna change.

Nice work on the game, I am so glad it is finished and you can start earning the rewards from all your hard work. I sent you a PM before, reply to me as soon as you can. I also suggest that you submit this game to various other gaming sites as you plan to sell.

I know, and the dinosaurs are building machines and talking and everything! The game's just
sooooo unrealistic

I started work on this version almost exactly two years ago, but before that I had gotten quite a long way with an older version that used the same sprites as the first 'Raptor' game. Unfortunately (or fortunately, in hindsight), that version and all the material I had created for it was lost when my computer went haywire in 2005. I had to completely restart the project and even redraw all the sprites - but that turned out to be a good thing because these sprites are a lot better than the first ones I drew:

I wish snailfox had of asked one of the competition moderators if he could submit the full version, but host the demo version for everyone to vote. That way, the judges could have played the full version, getting all the features, giving him a better chance of winning, whereas the viewers could only play the demo. Also, if the game won like that, the viewers would be more tempted to buy the full version. Anyway, this game is excellent. I've tested it a few times (the full version), and it's incredibly good!
If i hadn't of recieved the full version for free, i would have paid for it, because im telling you, it's totally worth it!! The ending is really REALLY good!
Good Luck with the commercial side of things snailfox, and extra good luck in the competition!

The simple, elegant, high quality piano in the Forest Theme and it's tune make this game feel like an absolute precious classic, never to be forgotten. I personally spend too little time playing games to value this at $20, and more time programming, but otherwise, this could probably be sold for $50.

Which boss? I haven't played the demo version, so i don't know where it ends. The last cutscene is amazing, i watched it a few times because it made me laugh so much, and it's really well put together. I wonder if there will be a sequence....Sixty Five Million and Two Bc (One year later)... That'd be cool, especially if the storyline somehow continued on from this one..

I wonder if anyone's found all five achievements that are possible to find in the demo.....
Here's one:
destroying all the carnivorous plants in the first forest level that has them
And here's another:
Exploding a frog
There are ten achievements in the full game - mostly for doing unusual or clever things.

I think that this is a really cool game, Maybe one of the best GM-made games I have ever played.
I really like to see that some Gamemaker made games are getting produced, commercially.
I think that the developers are getting rewarded for there hard work with money, Especially this one.
It is a really good game though.
Now, I have played a few GM Commercial games in my time, and have brought little, But i think that this is one that I will.
I hope you sell many copys, You really deserve it!
Thanks for making this game Snailfox, It has really made my day to play such a cool game.

some of your questions might be answered there.
as ive mentioned at GaMergm.com, your game is very nice. if i was being really strict about judging it would be a tiny winy bit short of a perfect 10; there's a few glitches in the game still, but then again, they're minor
you've paid an outstanding amount of not only the graphics with all your particles and animations, but also with the sound. and 100% original? man, that's some talent your team has!
i have not purchased your game yet, but i most probably will. Admitingly i would not have decided to plan on buying it if it wasn't for how the raptors dialogs where so funny! you've done an excellent job all around, and you've truly shown what a dedicated group and hard work can truly achieve with the marvelous program we all refer to as simply 'Game Maker'.

First off I would like to say, AMAZING!
Problem with the sliding stones, it smashed me into the wall and I got stuck. Probably just be fixed by making the player die when they get smashed like that.
I did a back flip next to a wall, and somehow I slid up the entire wall to the top of the level.
I can't say I'm a huge fan of the controls. The butt stomp takes too long to activate and the jumping is really hard to control where you want to land. Maybe just some tweaking with timing on that.
Other than those things, the game is genuinely original and fun to play in every aspect.

Actually the VGA standard is 640x480. If I made the game resolution higher, you would have to download 28 MB instead of 14 and it would take longer to load. If you don't like the 640x480 window, you can always hit F4 and fullscreen it - if your graphics card's any good, it will be nice and smooth when scaled up
