Moderator PS:

Do yourself a favor and follow Softwrap's instructions exactly. Softwrap help page

Your email should contain:

-- Name of title purchased (Game Maker 7)
-- License Holder Name (YoYo Games)
-- Purchase Reference Number (the key that YYG sent you)
-- Your first and last name
-- A brief explanation of your problem (try to write clearly, or ask an adult to help you.)

I also highly recommend you use the same email address you registered with.
GMmarine
I really do hope this helps other GM users, but there will steel be people who slip through the cracks. Although, I'm quite happy since I was able to re-register.

I'm getting the same error as saphiro...

...I was sent a key from yoyo, that one doesn't work, too, btw.
BenRK
I, too, contacted them on Wednsday and I, too, have yet to recieve a reply.
masterm
ok my pations is running out,i am getting mad cause of the stupid errors, why dont they just make a offline version i check and check everyday to see if it go's online but nothing!.wtf is going on here.
gmjab
Well I've finally been sorted out and I got mine activated. Good luck to everyone else who still is having problems, I hope you get your's working soon.
ghostgirl
they ARE making an offline version if you paid any attention whatsoever instead of just yelling about your 'pations' smile.gif it's just not ready yet.
86 the Sledgehammer
The mistake I made was in checking the 're-install' radio button instead of the 'purchase new' one. After all, from my point of view, I was re-installing a licence I already owned on GM6&5.
hasser
I registerd at the yoyo site, got the email, it said this :

QUOTE
Dear  , (yes, there was actually nothing there)

Thank you for upgrading your copy of gamemaker to version 7. Your new activation
code can be found below.

YOY-UPG-################

To use this activation code download and install the Lite edition of Game Maker
version 7.0 (if you have not done so already). Run the program. In the form that
pops up select the button "Enter Activation Code". In the form that appears
enter the code and provide your name and further information. The program will
then be upgraded to the Pro edition. Note that you must be connected to the
internet when upgrading the program.

The YoYoGames Team

(This is an automated email please do not reply to this address if you have any
problems please contact admin@yoyogames.com)

i put it in the box to upgrade GM7 and it gives me an "Activation Code not recognized. Please check that you have entered the details correctly."

it dosent tell me what ive done wrong sad.gif I dont even know if im putting my name in right (used the one in the first email i got for GM6.x) because they didnt send me one in their email, is that what's causing the error?

EDIT: sorry i was pressing the wrong button: re-activate instead of the other one....

they should really make that clearer

... and so was I.
o_o
My activation claimed to be successful, but I remained in "lite". After exchanging emails for a few days with both Yoyo Games and Softwrap they both referred me to one another. I've been waiting 2 days for a response from either party. sad.gif

Edit: Upon using softwraps feedback interface on their website, they added re-installations to my account and the program runs in Pro mode successfully.

Just stick with 6.1 untill all these bugs are fixed (thats what I'm doing).
Darahbi
Yea... I was downgraded to lite as well. I think yoyogames is trying to rip us off and steal all of our money. Down with YoYo games!

What ever happened to running your own site and marketing your product through civilized advertising?

I'm now afraid, very afraid of yoyo, but on the lite side, I have a bunch of used laptops that my math class uses and I want to make math games for them using version 5.3.

Can I get an activation code for that version from yoyo, who knows?
Can I use an old delapidated (spelling?) activation code for version 5.3, since no-one in the write mind would make code for that dinosaur anymaur.

Any ideas?

The school year is closing fast.....

I also never go tthe activation codes. They had no problem collecting their money, of course.

How could sending an activiation code be this hard? I've emailed them and been ingored. I've put my email addr into their "resend activiation" page. I get the auto-replies that I'm not a customer - so they can email me!!!

I'm about to give up and enter a dispute with PayPal. Too many people are having this issue.

Same thing with me..

I actually finally after a few long days got GM7 registered...

The I closed GM, opened it again and bam, unregistered and I cannot register again because it says key has been already used in a successful activation...

I think its unnecessary to leave this topic unlocked.

Oddly, I've had no problems registering.

Mine did the same thing.
I activated it,the next day it unregisterd itself.
I used the same key again to register and it workd, but I hope that this isnt an ongoing problem.
The only thing that may have happend is that I quite often clean my registry,so perhapes it got deleted that way, also if you have an automatic software cleaner it may be deleting the key.
Perhapes the key needs to be put somewhere else than in a general directory,I dont know exactly though.
It does appear in my situation that it may have been a blink.gif deletion.

I'm suprised that some people have even gotten a registration code, Yoyo Games cannot reconize my GM6 or GM5 code and is having problems proccessing them. I am going to stick with GM 6.1 for now, mainly because of the fact that I have no other choice. But I am patient, I can wait a little longer.

omgomgomgomg!

The greatest thing happened today!

SoftWrap emailed me and enabled multiple re-installs on my license. About time! Now I can use GM on my desktop finally. Good luck to everyone else, you email's should be coming. Took them just over a week to email me back but I consider that a very short wait time against the number of users they have tickets for.

i emailed softwrap about my problem and got a response within 2 hours. Probably because I complained about their terrible, if even existant, customer service. They then apologised and reactivated me immediately.
tcrosby
I have purchased two copies of gamemaker 7.0 and the first downgraded it self and the second purchased code says its invalid. All attempts to contact softwrap has failed.

I will start proceedings to get my money back. The DRM is a disaster. I'll guess I'll dump GM in favor of Torque.
icuurd12b42
I purchased. It unlocked GM and It's been pro ever since. What's this about a purchase code? The only code I got was the reference number for the purchase transaction. Is this a code they give you if you went from pro to lite? To fix a failed purchase. (Not talking about registering using 6.1 code here). If you went from pro to lite then, I would assume GM is installed in such a way it cannot remember if it was activated in the first attempt. So entering a code when that happens would be pointless until you fix the reason it went from pro to lite in the first place... Or yoyo fixes it that is.
Hach-Que
I registered and then it downgraded to lite. I say that they should have kept the old registration system.
h3csc
same problem too! large problem that cause GM7 become useless. sad.gif

what is going on with GM's new 'improved' registration system??

I agree with this, "improved"? haha!
Ross Lam.
I now have my registration key, and GM is staying Pro. So now I'm good.
Mikkelet
I got a problem, too: my code doesn't work, and nobody have ever answered the 5 mails I've send
VampireLordAlucard
I was considering getting Pro, but I'll just wait until some of these problems are sorted out...

@ Mikkelet - dont send them 5 emails. They are getting emails from alot of ppl, give them at least a week. If they dont reply after a week, I'd send another. But dont send 5, it will just slow them down even more >.>

Actually if you all can't seem to load the activation page:
Open Internet Explorer
Type this in to the address bar:
https://www.softwrap.com/swpurchase8/activa...ad_url=&lang=en

Or if your using Internet Explorer:

It will take you to the activation page just activate or re-activate or whatever you need to do just make sure to restart game maker if it was running during the activation process to see the results.
Edfishy
I'm going to add to this list of complaints simply because I love Game Maker and want to see it continually improve.

I had no problems doing the initial on-line activation, even though its a bit awkward. I installed the first license on the only machine with an internet connection, and then the second free license on my personal machine. I had some bugs with my personal machine, so I reformatted it. Now SoftWrap considers that second free activation used, so I can't run Game Maker 7 on my personal machine.

I would prefer to be running Game Maker 7 on my personal machine, so instead of waiting for SoftWrap to respond to my e-mail, I decided to un-install Game Maker 7 Pro on my first machine. My thoughts were that SoftWrap must have been smart enough to track when somone had uninstalled one of their applications, but apparently not. Now I'll have to wait for that e-mail before I can use Game Maker 7.0 Pro at all and have to constantly worry about re-installing the license in the event that one of the computers get sacked(they get sacked often).

I understand YoYo games would prefer not to have to worry about people cracking their software, but I still think this is just too much of an arduous process to be considered consumer friendly. I honestly would prefer to have to have a Game Maker CD in the machine at all times compared to the hastle of hastling the licensing company.

I loved Game Maker 7.0 Pro in the time I was using it though, glad I paid for it! Just improve the licensing situation please. smile.gif
antidote
I think they should go back to the old way but with added provisions like Email confirmation so if somebody managed to Phish your key you can request a new key and have your old one disabled and anybody who tries to use it gets a screen saying that their using an illegal key.
Edfishy
Another effective strategy is to fill the internet with innoperable cracks to make the effort of getting a working crack beyond worth.

...

Although that may be a little extreme(as well as costly). It could easily be done with help from the community, and it would allow us to go back to a reasonable licensing sytem.
LiTe
This 'SoftWrap' thing sucks, crackers have already produced a 'loader' program to bypass this and give you PRO.
Joerdgs
Did anybody ever received the license details via email (not in the DRM interface) btw? You're supposed to receive an email with your Purchase Ref right after activating. I never got it.
ghostgirl
well, as you can see in my sig.... no. smile.gif
Daniel-Dane
@Joerdgs:
Apparently, no one did.
GreenLanternJr
I did I guess I'm lucky.
Also the problem with activation program not loading is due to it being run by the program: WEBP2P which is believed to be malware surveillance software by most anti-spy programs.
gymnastdaniel5
thanks Mark for posting this finally! (not sarcastic)
Rowanisgod
I've just read through all these posts and quite a few people seem to be getting the same problems as me.

I've been registered since GM5 and very excited about the release of GM7. when it came out, i quickly exchanged my old code for the new activation code and set it up. It worked fine!

However, later that week my computer crashed and needed rebooting (don't worry, nothing to do with gamemaker at all!! - was a windows problem ;p ). when I reinstalled windows on my computer and went back to reinstall GM7, I realised that i had lost my registration data in the crash. But this should be ok, I still had my GM6 key AND the email address I was registered to...

When I tried to retrieve my password from the activation menu (under "lost your licensing details?" section), it kept saying that it didnt recognise my email address. I know for a FACT that I typed in the right address (and I even tried my other email addresses just in case) but i was met with disappointment each time.

I emailed them about a week ago, and have had no reply whatsoever! I am in an ok position to register again and pay out again, but I just wont, out of principal. but meanwhile, i'm stuck with the lite version (in which i cant edit any of my old games with registered functions). anyone have any suggestions or just to say "yeah, the same happened to me."..?

Ok.. my rant is over, but I am disappointed with the hap-hazardness of this whole GM-to-YOYO transaction. I had no objections at all to it (it means GM develops faster and we have more support) but this is a tad unprofessional. I hope it gets sorted soon.. I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms..

The exact thing happened to me. I've sent an email to softwrap, and I tried re-getting my activation code from yoyo, and a form popped up asking me to enter details and an admin will look at this (basically a ploy to catch people using pirated codes, i think). so i entered details in form, because i PAID for my licence.
still waiting for a reply from either yoyo or softwrap.

IMO, this "DRM" is just as bad as the DRM microsoft implemented in vista's media functionality (don't quote me on that)
ForteMP3
Having a similar problem. I got GM7 installed and in Pro on my notebook. My WinXP desktop however, I installed, upgraded to pro, then got DOWNGRADED to lite. Since my key's been used now, I can't reuse it (I've tried in hopes my code would be reset after sending in my request). So far, no luck.
borgdrone_89
someone here said that for some reason yoyo re-sent us all new activation codes (3rd of march it happened i think)
however, both the activation codes I have are exactly the same, so I cannot test if the supposed "new" code will work...
I also didnt recieve an email after activating GM7, with the reference number, etc. lucky I printed it off, but it still doesnt work.

one question...(which i do not want a discussion started on)
in the GM7 EULA, it says we need to include a EULA with our game.
How do we do this If we publish the game directly to yoyo's server (when it's running). I presume that by uploading, game maker will compile the exe and beam it up.. so how do we include the EULA file if only the EXE is beamed up (short of including the EULA in the "help" file)?

remember, no discussion on this; or this could end up being just like that big scary credit-ownership-etc-closed discussion that we all know and love.

For me, gm6.1 is not an option anymore, since I only have vista, and I don't have a copy of xp I can dual boot with (yes it is legal if vista is not an upgrade version, but a full one). So basically I am stumped creativitywise (except for using werkkzeug) until i get a working code.
burn3r
I have also been having similar problems to some mentioned here. Yoyo games does not recognize my GM6 registration key, and won't let me upgrade to the GM7 registration key.

Per the FAQ here, I have waited and tried again, multiple times. I have emailed both SoftWrap and Yoyo Games (by the form I got when they didn't recognize my key, by emailing admin@yoyogames.com and even posting to their Glog) and I have not received one reply in 2 weeks from any of them. And yes, I stated my problem and gave them as much information as I could.

So, my question is, has anyone else been able to resolve this issue and if so, how did they do it? I have tried contacting everyone involved, and I'm not even sure that they are getting my emails, and whether they are working to resolve this issue, or if anything is even being done.

It would be nice if someone updated the status of the numerous issues going on, as it feels like nothing is even being done. I must say, I'm not very impressed with the support for GM7 - I'm not even sure who I should be contacting regarding this issue - yoyo games? softwrap? gamemaker?

Sorry for the rant - any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated - this is really starting to get frustrating!
