For some particular reason earth has come under the rule of evil, mutated, human sized vegetables that talk in high voices! You are the human that has come to rise up against the vegetables. Expect blue Vegetable-blood to line all the streets as you cackle maniacally at your destructive power you have unleashed!
The game is a GTA style game (Although this game was well into production before I even saw any GTA game, lol). You can walk and drive around and kill vegetables, all the usual stuff etc. The games Programming, Design and Graphics were by Josh Oosterman (Me) and the music was by Ed Robinson (ProteenX11)

Note: This game was started absolutely ages ago back in the version 5.0 days (5.0! not 6 but 5!), and was effectively my GM learning project. It is a well overdue release, due to the fact that it has take me about 2 years to get round to ironing out the last major bugs and adding missions (I have gone months on end without eve opening the gmd). As mentioned on this thread, that graphics are bad and the sound effects are basic. I know this, and see my post on page 3 addressing this.
Currently I am working on the sequel, which is going to be in full 3D, with a huge buffering city and probably well over quadrouple as much weapons and cars etc, and is currently underway and going well. So, if you have any good ideas etc I will not be adding them to this, but be sure to remember them when you hear news of the sequel on these forums!

You took your time.
8.5/10, I just can't stop playing it, trees still need to burst spontaneously into flames though.
Its brilliant, one of my favourite GM games of all time.
And i've seen it from a badly programmed, buggy beginning to a badly programmed near bugless vegetable-fest.
If you download one game today,
Make it this one.

Lol, this game is very funny, i like the story

. It took some time to get used to the movement controls though, they are not bad, just not common. The graphics are not bad, and the sound effects are funny too. I give it an 8/10.

Jan 29 2006, 08:10 PM
Well i'll start out by saying quite a creative storyline. Now the gameplay in this is somewhat addicting compared to some other games and it kept me play'in. There was a good varitey of weapons in the game and the Cruise mode was well implemented. One little problem though, if you get out of vehicles near a solid object such as a building or fountain you get stuck. The graphics werent as flashy as most games, or the sounds were mostly default GM sounds but, who cares! The gameplay oversees that fact. This game is very much worth playing, and one to keep on the dektop. A superb game full of vegetable mayhem!

Dutchgamer - When you say the control style is rare, did you try changing it in options? My friend reccomended I added the second control system, which might be what you are used to. It was actually the default at some stage, but I must have got a GMD mixed up somwhere.
Mario Man 21 - I know that the sounds are the gm default ones, and I know that the graphics are quite budget. This game is well overdue, and the sequel will be of a much higher quality. I intend to spend no time fixing anything I can help doing on this project.
Everyone - Thanks for your constructive critisism, but please realise I am not ignoring it, I am just saying that this game is overdue, and now that it is out I just want to get onto the seqeul rather than ever have to touch that GMD again. Please realise I will not be working on this game as much as I can avoid it. Although something looks ugly or something sounds bad it is one of the 10,000 problems would need to be done, and after fixing the last 10,000 I dont want to bother. It is a done game, as bad as its nuclear crater looks and I want to spend my time making the sequel great rather than making the prequel average.
Everyone again - It is good to hear people are passing the game! People are both skilled enough and the game must be good enough to keep people going. I was worried It might be too hard or something (Apparently Crazy Copter is very hard in places and I didn't realise it as I could almost do most levels in one attempt due to debuggers practise).

I think you still needed to make the control config change more noticeable, or at least tell people to look for it.
Maybe a note at the start of the post?
And you've fiddled with my musics, you evil little programmer!

I beat it. Fun game, rather short, but really fun. Massacring vegetable, and an evil pickle!
Love the levitator, and the confusor. Link gun was neat too! Heh, splat!
Pretty durn fun, the tank was awesome in cruise mode, and if a bit lacking in the graphics department, this is pretty fun to play.

lol, The link gun.
That never really came out like I wanted, Josh is wayyy to lazy:p
And the "Levitator", HL2 anyone?
The confusor is one of my favourite weapons though, hey josh, is the confuser going to be in POTV2???

A more formal review:
Grafix: 5/10 - could have been better, have seen worse.
Sounds 7/10 - were enough sounds for me, nothing bad, nothing special
Gameplay - 10/10 it shines; this was fun and addicting, and rather good.
Storyline - 10/10 original, funny plot
Additional stuff 10/10 - you had some fun cheats, placed so you only knew about them after you beat the game, you had that text thing, and you had the Jimmy vege moving his mouth and all. I liked it.
32/40 or 8/10 - I liked it.

Nooo!!! I downloaded the game, i ran the exe, the menu shown up, and then, i press

To bad for me

Jan 30 2006, 09:09 AM
Tobias - Make sure that there is a folder there also. There should be a folder there called stuff in the same directory as the exe. This error has happened a lot to me before when I forgot to put the folder there too. Other than that, I am not sure sorry.
Proteenx11 - I am not actually doing the weapon design for Planet of The Vegetables 2, a friend of mine is designing them all. On the other hand, It is my game and there is nothing against me putting in weapons If I want them anyway. I will see what weapons my friend designs, and if there is a gap for something like the confuser I will put it in. If it does come back in, there will probably be a lot more effects of it rather than making enemies vibrate then run into a car.
sonix
Jan 30 2006, 11:32 AM
loved it allthough it was extremley glitchy on training my car got stuck on a block but i have designed car physics exactly like u and my car would get stuck same way. then on the last level when i got to the boss i couldent change weapons dunno if thats a glitch i just ran past him and it said i killed him.
on the goverment island thing i went to the thing and took shortcuts hit a dead end and it said i got a teleporter and took me away to next level.
funny man and the nuke ROCKED and the confuser was funny too i was like what the hell dose this do threw the spider thing on some one and he ran into a sports car.
and is it possible to get the nuke without cheats on cruise mode like in a box because i couldent find it.
or without changing the weapons to all

i loved it, but it ended to fast!
please make an expansion or something!
i'm sending the "win" code to you
SupremeJosh
Jan 31 2006, 12:28 AM
sonix - Yes the nuke is in a crate. On the secret island in the bottom right of the map there is a tank along with a lot of the best weapons in crates. It is supposed to be a sort of secret island with a lot of rewards.
Kay-P - An expansion or more missions - Probably not. I am going strait to the sequel, although I might allways make a basic 2D gta engine with some missions or something for an example.

Woah, this game seriously hands out the sheer enjoyment. The screenshots and the graphics dont realy give it justice, the game shines more for the enjoyability of the game.
The missions were varied, too little of them yes, but varied. I cant wait for the sequel, maybe the graphics will get vamped up by then?
Anyways, if you want my tip, in the sequel have mouse scrolling to change through the weapons a heck of a lot easier.
SupremeJosh
Feb 19 2006, 07:04 AM
Yeah sure, that is a good idea. I will even impliment mouse scrolling right now! I will leave the keys in though, as in potv2 you will only ever carry a few weapons at a time so using the keys won't be such a big issue because only one weapon will be assigned to each key from like 1-6. There will still be plenty of weapons, however you may have to deposit them in your arsenal or base or something and carry only a reasonable amount of weapons on your person.
Anyway: Planet Of The Vegetables is now the 4th most downloaded game on 64Digits!

Feb 24 2006, 12:09 PM
Do most people just copy out the exe or something? Because multiple people are having the problem that occurs when you dont have the stuff folder in the same place. I could allways update it to check to see if the folder is there first and give the user a nice message telling them to create the stuff folder.
Is this neccesary, or do you think enough people figure it out as it is.
Fox
Feb 25 2006, 04:38 PM
One would hope that people would follow directions and extract the whole folder, but with Windows XP allowing you to open a zip as if it were a folder, things are a little more complicated.
About the game: incredibly fun! I'm surprised nobody else mentioned the ingenuity behind the sniper rifle! Great job, all around. Did you make the 3D models yourself, and is the sequel going to be 3D? Congratulations on getting into the Cage Match!

Feb 25 2006, 07:13 PM
AAARRRRGGHHH!!!Man, I wanna play this sooo bad, but I can't... You didn't include an option to turn off the music. On some people's ****y PC's
(like mine) can't play music too well, so it ruins the game for them...

All that happens is the music keeps skipping and it stops taking input randomly, while the enemys run around killing me, I just stand there... >_>
This sucks major ass...

Wow Cagematch! This game is doing a bit better than I would have expected (For a first game (sort of) and all)
Also I have noticed that it has been climbing up the ranks in the most downloaded games on 64Digits, and is now second

The first place game however, has an insane amount of downloads and I wouldn't expect to catch up to it at any stage soon, lol.
Fox - Thanks for the good feedback! Yes if there is any 3D models anywhere in the game then I did make them (Lol I can't remember where they are) and yes the sequel will be 3d.
It is currently a wip and you can see its progress in my siggy. There are some links to screenies at the bottom of the page that give you a rough idea of what I have done so far. Notice that the text and the screenies are a bit out of date, but they are not hugely behind progress. As potv2 will most likely be the last gm project I ever do, I am going to spend a huge amount of time on it and try to make it really good.
On the sequel, I'm currently putting current progress at about 10%. It currently has over 150 internal scripts and over 100 external files (textures/models/cfg files etc)
Drewdelz - I could add an option and upload a new version for turning off the sound while I am here at my friends house (fast internet) although this may not be the problem. Realise that the early phases of this game were written really poorly (It is really quite embarrasing) and that this game could just be running slowly because it is terribly programmed. I must stress that this game is far from optimised and that it will run far slower than it should anyway.
Blue_Ninja_Frog - Try again later. I notice that occasionally 64digits seems to not work for a bit, but not for extended amounts of time. If it becomes a common problem I may add a mirror, but I quite like 64digits and will try to just keep it on that in the mean time.

1. it killed my computer, it lagged so much, that not even my T1 internet could handle it!
2. tomato is a fruit (it's a berry, it's also a fruit because it has seeds in the fruit itself)

tomatoes look like vegetables, taste like vegetables, have been considered vegetables for quiet a while until recently, you eat it with salads and its kind of salty. Screw the scientific term. Besides this game is not serious, if you would of looked at the intro you would of noticed.

My Review:
Gameplay - 4/10: I found the controls rather difficult. It was using topdown shooter-ish controls for an Isometric game, which was kind of confusing, and I kept pressing the wrong button.
Graphics - 1/10: Okay, the graphics sucked, everything looked like crap. Way to pixelated, not enough detail, animations where jolty. Overall, horrible.
Sounds - 1/10: Half the sounds where from the resource pack, and the other half where low quality, which made it sound really bad.
Overall - 2/10
Personally, I'm not even sure how this made it into Cagematch.
I hope what I said above wasn't too mean. Its just my honest opinion.

i love this game! but there's an easy way to beat the final boss, jimmy, just stand behind the pic-nic table at the top, his shots won't hit you, his grenades will bounce off, and the rockets will colide at the pic-nic table nearest to him and he will hurt himself...
SupremeJosh
Feb 26 2006, 09:57 AM
Mr. Pacman0 - What does you having t1 internet have anything to do about it running fast? It isn't an online game...? Anyway also I didn't even realise you could beat jimmy like that! I made it so you are supposed to take cover behind the table to stop the nades and bullets, but since the missile homes towards you, the player is supposed to move around so that the missile hits jimmy, but hey, whatever works for you
MrBiggles - Put it this way, the general feedback I have gotten is much better than I would have thought, so having some feedback like that occasionally sort of averages it all out where I would have expected, lol. I am not going to go cry or anything about your review, and I know that the game is lacking in quite a few areas. Take into account:
Gameplay: Try changing the controls in config. My friend said something about dodgy controls too, so I added his control method in also.
Graphics: You must realise that even 'crap' does not have much colors in it besides brown. The graphics could be distinguished from crap. The graphics were all done in mspaint and I just made them as I needed them, rather than actually sitting down to work on them.
I admit that the graphics are bad and I didn't do them myself because I thougt I could draw, I did them myself because I enjoy working on games by myself. When I need graphical help in the sequel, I will be asking for it.
Sounds: Perhaps there is a reason why Mark gives you some sounds with GM? Maybe it is for people who just start experimenting on their first game and need to fill in the silence with a few basic gun and explosion sounds?
Infact this is my first game and I used the easiest sounds I could get to make my game better when this game was nothing but learning how to d&d. Yet again, I never boast about the sound quality of the game. Perhaps it is just what happens when you start a game about robots invading you school, and finish it 3 years later with vegetables and a city instead?
Anyway...Please understand that I never claim this to be an graphically or audibly advanced game. This is my first ever game started, and was the learning curve to my game maker skills. I even mention this in my first post.
I put this behind me as a game-making learning project for fun, not a masterpiece that I put my best efforts into. Quite frankly I am glad that I never have to touch the .gmd file again, and can work on better games now.
To everyone: The graphics are bad, the sounds are from the gm resource pack and it runs nowhere near as good as it should. No need to tell me any of the above anymore.

only thing what is wrong in this game is that red tomato. The light-blue bakcground is ``blinking`` behind it.
