Samosaphone cheats menu:

To dial the Samosaphone, enter "1-800-24328-63" or "18002432863", and answer the greeting with any reasonable derivation of the following: "Hi" or "Hello" or "Good day" or "Greetings" or "Ahoy" or "Yo" or "Hallo" or "Evening" or "Afternoon".

Heh... I've known about the 1-800-CHEAT-ME for ages... but, I don't know where to dial the number. How would I go about doing this? Thanks!

Hey I just beat the first boss and I would like to say how amazing your game is. I am a big fan of the zelda series and playing your game reminds me of them. Theres not much to make better when it comes to this game. It would help if someone posted a walkthrough or at least could tell me what to do at the part where you get the map go into the blizzard to find out you cant go anywhere then go back to the guy who gave you the map in the first place. the guys says \\\"Oh, the plains? The blizzard and fog?... I wrote it down somewhere if you\\\'re interested. It shouldn\\\'t be too hard to find in this....er.....well, as I say, it\\\'s here somewhere.\\\" What do you do for this part In chapter 2? I would appreciate it if someone would help me.

EDIT: ironically i figured out the answer to my question on my own about 5 minutes later tongue.gif so you can disregard my question

What is wrong with me? Why can't I like this game. It gets a 9/10 from me but i hated it! Grr! It was very well made and all but the story just didn't get me. I just found it boring. I hate myself! WHY AM I THE ONLY HATER OF THIS GAME? Oh right, because it is so good and that is why. I really wish i could like this...

You are not alone.

Yeah, it's a well made game. Yes, it had a lot of work put in it. But, the story was a bit bland and the mood was dry. It basically is a good game lacking polish that could have been a lot better with a few tweaks here and there.

I would consider that a complement if I worked on this game. It seems that you are judging this game by commercial standards. Of course, this is just a GM game, but it is one of the best GM games ever made even though it was released almost three years ago.

It's not. Even though it's a GM game, it doesn't excuse the dry mood. Games like Mage Craft and Seiklus, made long before Ark 22, had excellent moods. They had living environments.

I agree. I just couldn't get into the character development, which is an important factor in long drawn out fantasy games. It's a decent game and all, lots of stuff, but I couldn't bring myself to go very far without pressing the escape button. I usually dig 2D/3D RPG games too.
Srehpog
Theghostofchristmas and Jaret, out of interest, how far did you get before giving up? If it was before the first dungeon, I'd say if you want to try and get into it, it might be worth carrying on a bit further. Like you say, it's an important part of this sort of game, especially if you're a fan of the genre. I know I've had some surprises before when moving a little further into a game I thought wasn't up to much at the beginning. Certainly if you're still on the ship, it's definitely worth going a little further. If not, well... bleh, sorry. Can't please everyone. biggrin.gif

There's a keypad on the table in the large building straight North of the starting village, directly opposite the door on the bottom floor as you go in. You can interact with it as usual and speak to... someone on the other end. I'm really not sure who.

You've done a good job of pleasing most people. I mean, a topic doesn't reach 48 pages for nothing.

EDIT:
Plus, you should consider the fact that Kafeithekeaton is a Mr. Kubus fan. tongue.gif

I'm stuck in the 3rd dungeon. I can get past the darkened room but I can't get to the teleporter on the other side. I'm not sure how to get rid of the shimmering disc thing for the second time.

There are three exits to this room in total - one on the right of the North face, where you come in; one on the far left which is illuminated by a ring (which disappears once you reach it), and one on the right of the South face, basically opposite the top entrance. If you've only been through one of those, try to reach the other. I'm doing this from memory so it may be a little.... wrong. tongue.gif I think that's it though.

I'm having this problem too. I go out the bottom exit of the darkened maze, go south along the brown cliff and use the teleporter, then come out and go up into the cave. I fight a thing with tentacles that appears when you sword swipe the red orb, then when it's dead one of those beige discs with the red orb appears. I go back to the room through the exit with the blue ring, but the other beige red-orb disc blocking the way is just flashing...

EDIT: Okay, I worked it out. You've got to sword slice the ring in the tentacle beast chamber.

wow... ive seen people who dont like a game because of graphics or sounds, but now you dont like it because of character development? mostly all games have less character development than this one (with none) and its not even an important factor anyway.

anyway, whats in all those buildings you cant get to? ive always wondered how to get in.

I didn't get that terrible far but I gave it an honest try. I really wish I could like this.... I really, REALLY want to like this... But I just don't. I am pretty sure it is the storyline. Maybe it picks up but it begins rather dull. Perhaps you soulc make another rpg not space based... I know it would be a GINORMOUS amount of work but if you still have the engine and the graphics, it could be space-based but offer a different story-line.
Fangobra
Guess what I found?

A TYPO!!!!!

In the cutscene after the pyramid boss, your character says "What it it?"
jynx
I remember playing the first version of this.
8/10. You lose a point for the lag and loading.
But this is a pretty amazing game.
Metal Luigi3
This game made my screen all big and EVERY THING big, almost as if i was in safe mode.
I closed it, it remains the same...

EDIT: Nvm, just restarted and it was back to normal, didn't start the game again though.
jynx
Yeah, it brings the screen resolution to about 800x600.
Most resolution changes in games are useless.
Fangobra
I beat it. Pretty good, though the background to the credits was rubbish.

Oh, and I still don't get what the big plot twist was. Was it the thing about who Piraeus is, or the thing about the player character, the starlight and the explosion?
Stargateanubis14
its just an amazing game...thats all there is to it...i've played it many times over...still as amazing as the first wonderful time i played it strait through in 11 hours...ah i miss the early mornings!

Weird, but if this happens again you know you can just set the resolution back to what it was before right?

I got stuck in the very begining of chapter two and I don't know what to do next.Any ideas?

Okay! For the love of sweet petunia! Why can't I like this game? It gets 5/5 from me... It seems fun and my type of game but it's physically impossible for me! That's it! I will play this amazing game and I will like it! Anyone else feel this way? Anyway, what has this publisher been up to lately... Would be a shame for him to quit with such an amazing game... It would be great if he used same engine and all and made new storyline and such...
Ryan-Phoenixan
If you read his interview in the GMTech Magazine (that is the name, right?), he's working on new projects. I don't think he'd WANT to use the engine again though. XD Or "engine." He already said that in this game, there are no parents/children objects at all. Rather long, lengthy, and he learned better coding methods since then.

Well if it's taken him that long to create the next game, it's bound to be amazing!

This is the 1st game I ever needed a faq guide for.

I think this game is incredible. 12/10!
Edhelcu
... wow. That was one long game. Definitely impressive.

I did find a few glitches:
-In chapter 7, the guy who sells bombs in the building a screen north of NSV offers to sell you 5 bombs for... I believe it was 195 credits. I purchased this, but actually got 10 smile.gif
-There was a little typo - "hol" where it should have been "hold" I think - in your personal records, entry number 3 or 4 I believe - I can't remember for sure where.

A very amazing game, although for me, the difficulty of it often killed the fun... but I finally beat it:) (with a bit of help from the topic).

Oh, and btw, 6-10 hours is a joke... it took me at least 20, probably 30+ hours to beat the whole thing.
Malmsteen
It took me longer to beat this than COD4 and Halo 3 put together. You have made an impressive game: in fact, you have made one of the best Game Maker games.
messycat
Seriously great game, well done. It's been a while since a game has kept me occupied all evening and made me lose track of the time!
hardcoregamer
This is best GM RPG ever. IS a sequel coming soon?

Only one thing is bothering me. How do I select items in the inventory? It doesn't say which button to use, and I can't find a button that works. Help!

meh, i'm stumped on beating lv 3. i've found the village but everytime i enter i get shot down.

Can i suggest you make it possible to download without the music pack?
It would be really nice not to have to download 20 mb, and many people are happy with their own music.
grimmjow
Yeah it is an incredibly in-depth game but quite laggy and also the download takes ages.
SilentxxBunny
Incredible game! I must admit! I am completely and totally blown away by this! This is the best game ever made in Game Maker without a doubt. There is only one thing that I don't like about this game and it is that it changes screen resolution. I am always multitasking and I simply cannot play a game and not be talking to someone on AIM at the same time. It killed me to not be able to do anything else because of the stupid resolution change.
wa1do_13
SxxB, You should play Iji. But there's no doubt in my mind that this is in the top 5 or so- Srehpog, you seem to be one of the few people that actually has the patience to create an adventure game (and well, might I add), and I applaud you there. Although the game does have it's fair share of problems, the fact that you made such an ambitious game alone is something to be celebrated, let alone with all of it's positive aspects.
hardcoregamer
this game is purely a legend. It belongs in the hall of fame. I just wish it fullscreened better than it currently does.
That guy behind you
This was an awesome game... does Srehpog still check this topic?
Srehpog
Yes, he does.

I'm just very busy with my next project at the moment since it's almost done... when I release that one I'll go over my old games and bring them up to date, so correct a few bugs which are left in Ark 22 and maybe change the full-screen (although I'm sure it was changed TO resolution-exact on request, but still).

These days I'm still checking the topic in case there's anything serious, but since it's only a couple of typos and value errors I can fix in a few hours, I'm just letting it sit tight 'til it's time to make some changes.

Anyway, you'd think by now it could be a 'final' version at last. tongue.gif

Also, yes - everyone play Iji. It's superb.

Awesome. Also, could we use the main character from the game in GMClash?

And the memory of that southern building in New Samosa village haunts me to this day... is there anything in it?

I'm having problems with Chapter 3, I got past the automated turret by running through it, but when I get to the rock that looks bombable, it doesn't blow up... is that a glitch, or am I supposed to do something else first?

That blows up as part of the story. You have to sneak into the village first by hiding in a cart to the west.

Hey, guys, I would love it if someone could tell me how to beat the very last bit of the Intent boss at the end. I've made it through the three first segments, but then I always die when I face off against the fourth body part. There just doesn't seem to be enough health around to sustain me long enough to shoot it to death....Help?
ReZurrecti0n
Maybe someone should create some kind of hint guide to the game compared to the amount of people already asking for help, lol tongue.gif

I'll have to try this game out sometime, but rather going through ALOT recently (Close Family Death Etc.)

Looking forward to the windowed update.

I know this is WAY old, but it is legendary to me and in the community. I have played it nearly all day now, and I'm in Chapter 3 and I'm stuck in the level. After the dark room I need to get by one of those things that are blocking your path and are in both realms. I can't see it in the dark realm and I really need to get past it. Ugh...

Now onto my review!

Overall Rating: 20/10 WAY BEYOND (Or should I say 22/10 hehe)
Graphics Rating: 10/10 (The graphics all fit well with the game, and it still had flare for looking simple)
Animations Rating: 10/10 (Not too over the top, just perfect. The animations were amazing.)
Story Rating: 15/10 (Not only do you have an amazing plot, but the cutscenes are beyond expectations too. Freaking epic.)
Difficulty Rating: 9-fricking-bazillion/10 (I thought this would be repetitive or Zelda-like, but the puzzles made me cry.)
ADD-Friendly Rating: 10/10 (I hate repetitive-ness. This had so many things that were different. Kept me playing for all day.)

Review:
Holy crap. This is the number one Game Maker game I have ever played. I don't care if its 3D, or whatever, I just care that it entertains me. Thats what games are for. Some people have turned gaming into an obsession like a sport or something where they sit around and critique the lack or this or that in a game and stuff like that. But the game's sole purpose remains for a lot: to entertain. I love to sit down at a game that not only is extremely fun, but keeps me coming back for more.
I have never seen such class in a Game Maker game. This is far better than some professional games that I've played. So what if its not 3D, its still the best.
The puzzles are over the top. I was pounding my head on the desk at some of them.
The plot is out of this world! The backstory of the game isn't exactly blockbuster material, but this game plays out like a good book or a movie. The cutscenes were phenomenal. The drawings you did couldn't have been better. They were best left un-colored, which you did good. It seemed like a movie when suddenly you'd be reading what your character had to say and the view would be on him or near him, and then what the swordsman dude said something it'd be close to him or on him. Amazing stuff.
I will be playing this for a while. Definitely a winner. I will finish this because I want to know what happens to the poor Samosians.

Thanks for making this game!
Alexw.
I have been playing for a couple of weeks now, and this game is fantastic!

5/5
The graphics were nicely made, and very detailed.

4.5/5
The music was repetitive, and it got on my nerves some. But it sounded nice.

4.5/5
The gameplay was excellent. I did not like the way you talk to NPC's, and it was a very difficult game. If you could add an add an easy mode, that would be nice.(hint hint)

total 4.67/5

I have been having some trouble with the lighthouse (in chapter two), specifically the floor with the three moving guards, the two standing guards, and the conveyor with the coffee on it. Any hints would be appreciated.

Thanks for the great game Srehpog!

-Alexw.

Update: v18.11.2009

Fixed. Well spotted.

News:

Ark 22 is now brought to you by HiVE, so you can keep track of any updates, media and extra content there. This is probably the last ever update (despite me saying that about 20 times by now, but still).

Also, new game!. Umbrella Adventure - The Castle of Cake - if you liked Ark 22, you'll love this. Don't be put off by the 40Mb filesize, there's a lot of content. Honest.

Thanks everyone!
