Ok... I checked, it won a cage match. Which is good 'cause it deserved it.

Not only did it get into the Cagematch, it made it to the Hall of Fame.

Hello, all.

I've been playing Ark22 way too long (It's 5 in the morning for me). Good game (and I'm not normally an RPG-type person). However, something for the last 3 hours or so is driving me batty. After poking around the thread, I can't find the answer, although the question was already asked: Who wants the broken glass?

I think I've talked to everyone, although I must have missed someone, somewhere... I thought sure it would be the guy who wants something to stabilize his desk, but I guess not.

The only person I remember that I haven't asked is the guy in the Coffee Memorabilia 'house', but he seems to have vanished.

A number of people mentioned a walkthrough. Has anyone done one (more than the first chapter)? I'd love to figure out where the last 2 crystals are.

Never really commented on Ark22 I think, though it really was an amazing experience for me. Isn't that the best goal you can accomplish as a game developer? Give people an epic experience that they will forever remember?

Um yeah that sounds kind of dramatic, I'm serious though.

Anyways, fantastic game, really inspiring laugh.gif

Someone in the bar on the far-East coast of the lake.

ITEM LOCATION spoilers ahoy:

Biomatter:

In the order they appear on the pedestals in the Library (1-4 across the top row, 5-8 below):
  • 01: Cliff outctop room in Dungeon 1.
  • 02: High cliff on East side of Mountain pass - coming from second village.
  • 03: Third village (Daska & Co.).
  • 04: Northern edge - one room north of NSV.
  • 05: Hidden in Right passage in Dungeon 2.
  • 06: In Cardinal crossing, West of the bridge North of NSV. Not East... sorry
  • 07: Frozen cave, the entrance to Dungeon 1.
  • 08: Beneath the mountain, a few rooms North of NSV.

Collecting all the biomatter allows you to open an unlimited bank account with the HGA in the NSV library, but there is a more global incentive to complete this, and other, trading sequences.

Crystals:
  • NSV Shooting Gallery prize (200 pts.).
  • Dungeon 1, after reversing the gauges in a North room...
  • East lake island.
  • Mountain lodge ball minigame (Hard difficulty, 400pts.).
  • North-West village Quick-draw minigame (Hard difficulty victory).
  • Dungeon 1, tunnel.
  • Dungeon 3, 'desert' room.
  • Dungeon 3 dark maze.
  • Cardinal crossing, in a chest.
  • Mountain ravine top (West from Mountain Lodge).
.

The crystals allow you to get the TA-845 (that's your rifle) internal amplifier, which overcharges the energy buffer six times before firing.

Trading sequence:

A thousand cries of "I knew it!" ring out; the answers unfold. tongue.gif
  • Get statue in NSV Health Hall for free.
  • Trade for marbles in NSV Residence.
  • Trade for batteries in Mountain Lodge.
  • Trade for SOCE: Volume II in plains Bagatelle room.
  • Trade for cocktail in Village 2 bar.
  • Trade for smashed glass in Mountain lodge.
  • Trade for a rock in lake far-East coast bar.
  • Trade for a key in North outskirts mining initiative (bomb shop).
  • Trade for a glass box in Southeast lake island.
  • Trade for security card in plains bar.
  • Trade for SOCE: Vol. III in Northwest bar.
  • Trade for defused mine in Northwest bar.
  • Trade for week-old Coffee in Northwest SAT station.
  • Trade for Samosadisk faceplate in plains SAT station.
  • Trade for SOCE: Vol. IV in far-East coast robo-duel arena.
  • Trade for torch in plains bar.
  • Trade for lunch on lakeside West coast (mini watchtower).
  • Trade for some snow in plains control room.
  • Trade for SOCE: Vol. I in the same room.
  • Trade for a nibbled biscuit in lakeside (two rooms East of NW village).
  • Trade for Happy Gaming Association Membership Card in Mountain pass.
The HGA card enables you to play most minigames for free, and constitutes the end of the trading sequence. Looking back, I'm impressed anyone went to all that trouble without any hints. Thanks, people.

If you're still wondering why things don't seem to end up the way you want after finishing all the trading sequences, consider activating all SAT stations, maybe acquiring the Flask, and possibly opening a bank account too...

Challenge:

Secondly, I will reveal every single answer to the Samosaphone dialogue (i.e. cheats menu) as soon as someone finds one independently which I haven't already posted, i.e. not "I want my flask empty." and not "I want some Coffee.".

Happy hunting.

im stuck...could someone help me....i just got the mines an now there is an "!" on the map next to the guys who give u that jar....i got the jar but the "!" is still there...
CmdrLuke
I found two glitches:
1. In the dungeon where you get the SAT bracelet, when you are fighting the creature and the blue barrier comes up, if you fall into a hole you will spawn inside the barrier. This causes you to die.

2. If you have the HGA card and you play the slot machine, it lets you play free the first time, but if you say yes when it askes you if you want to play again, you are charged.

Also I have a question: How do you get the crystal at the Cardinal Crossing area?
cyberdudequestor
Cool, this topic is still hot. laugh.gif

This is the Zelda of Gamemaker, so I'm not surprised it's this popular for so long. You know how Zelda has been awesome with every single game.

This follows Zelda gameplay too....

I still love it!
Especially because of the fact that no one has barely EVER made a true action adventure game for gamemaker!

This is a great game. I downloaded this a couple of days ago and have been too busy playing it to review it. biggrin.gif

It can be really laggy (single digit fps) on my computer, but I think that's my computer's problem. (It is stopping me from getting over 200 in the shooting gallery though. tongue.gif)

Edit: Arg... Bad bug. In the Ch3 boss fight, if you fall in a hole, you respawn on top of the symbol blocking the door. aaskull.gif Oh well. I'll just have to stay out of the hole. This game is worth the extra effort.

Another Edit: YAY! I got the good ending. Awesome game. One note, even though I didn't see this error in the game, it was in the game_errors.log:

I had this game in my computer buried a long time ago. Now, I downloaded the latest version for I haven't played the game yet. dry.gif (So far, I just got passed the introduction) I just finished Dungeon 1, it wasn't easy though but I solve all the puzzles quickly... Call it beginner's luck (Without looking at the manual of course). Good game and very worthwhile.

You might want to get the AWC-400 machinegun first, which means you need, in this order (and possibly more, I can't remember)...
  • AWC-400 (obviously), plus...
  • Medium wallet, allowing you to hold...
  • 700 Credits, to spend at the bomb shop for...
  • The mine-laying upgrade (4 at once), so you can get...
  • The metal ore from North of the lake...
  • To give to the technician in the lakeside lab.

... That gets you the machinegun for your boat, though you may also want rifle ammo capacity upgrades, as it tends to eat through your ammo. Otherwise, if you want to have another shot at the boss without going through all that, you could try shooting the half-submerged crates which appear in the tunnel for Coffee and ammo.

If you mean the second compulsory block-moving puzzle, i.e. the first one in the room of three consecutive puzzles, I think that's just top-right-bottom-left... it's some clockwise combination anyway. If you mean one of the optional puzzles which appear in the water room, try posting a screenshot - someone will know.

And, yes, it's definitely possible. tongue.gif

It's on the Northwest bank, right? Go South from the NW village and past the collector's hut... I think.

The Dungeon 3 respawn and HGA slot machine errors will be fixed by next update - thanks again.

Just a simple mistake, entirely up to you whether you wish to consider this but in the topic description you have the date it was last updated. However it is showing as the 30 May 2007 which is impossible seeing as we are only in April at the moment. If it is a status to notify the user of when the next update is coming out then I apologise for my mistake.
Srehpog
You're right, that should be '03'. Thanks.

Wow, this topic is still alive after all this time... incredible. This has to be the most popular GM game of all time! I've already played quite a bit (got to the final boss, but couldn't figure out how to kill the second stage), and I have to say the attention is well deserved. I played this game for nearly three days straight. As for the bug above, might that have anything to do with the part where you switch the floor (floor becomes a hole, holes become the floor) to finish it?

EDIT: Wait, that's not even the same area, is it? Nevermind...

I can't actually replicate either of these. I think you may be playing an old version, or perhaps I fixed it a while ago without uploading and simply forgot.... could you check what version is listed in the opening fade?

Regarding the crystal there, you need to go south from the room Northwest of there - I think it's the East outskirts of the village room, with the crates. There's a little winding mountain path thing...

'Select' in this case just means to highlight with the cursor, so you're probably doing it already - it's the arrow keys or whatever directional axis you're using (gamepad, joystick...).

As ever, thank you all.

i found a bug, but I dont really care as this game is the best I've ever seen done with Game Maker! If this was on a Game Boy, I wouldn't believe you made it! 100000/10

I might just open up a site for this game! O_o

You successfully combined Zelda, Sci-Fi, and Coffee with a great storyline!

I haven't got to the end yet, but I am keeping this game, and I will play it right after I am done posting this.

Oh since this game is soooo good, I didn't want to see the ark22.exe so I put a folder of Ark22 in my program files and made a shortcut!

If you are making a second one, and if you need any help, PM me... better yet, PM me for my email address and I will give you my email!

COFFEE DULUXE!

Coffee Duluxe is a thing that I put together of a way to download Ark22! It is an installer zipped inside a coffeeduluxe.zip file and I have included other notepad documents and a shortcut for your desktop!

Instructions --

1. Download
http://dl023.filefactory.com/dl/f/83ba21//...8c53f0e1bd2a8a/
(that might work)

2. Extract the folder to your desktop.

3. Drag the non-existant shortcut over to your desktop to keep it there.

4. Double click the setup (Linux users may have to click once!)

5. Follow instructions

6. Discard folder and the shortcut from your desktop should work if you have the Ark22 folder in your Program Files.

I have finished the game. Great game! I loved it. Don't know why I only found it until two weeks ago, but it is great. For more, well, I sent you a PM a while ago already.

I just want to say I found three bugs:

1)In the map 1 north and 1 west of New Samosa, the map doens't show properly. According to the map, you are somewhere north of the whole accesible world.
2)In the cafetaria/bar of the village with the lighthouse, you can go out of bounds if you walk to the upper left of the room.
3)The upgrade for your weapon is supposed to do more damage, but it doens't work on the smaller version of the floating, robotlike creatures that teleport (only the small ones. The big ones are okay).

That's all for the bugs. Now, the ratings:

Gameplay:10/10: Nothing to complain on this, except for the 'only approach NPC form bottom'. But that just a small detail.
Graphics: 9.5/10: Very original, very good, and also very creative use of tiles i see tongue.gif. I must say I didn't liked the 'lower walls when inside' if you know what i mean. They are just blocky, while the upper walls all have diagonal corners, the lower walls are 90 degrees only.
Sounds: 9.5/10: Music is too repetetive. Luckily, you can turn it off. For the rest, excellent.
Originality: 10/10: Good story, very original and touching, and it all makes sense. Good storytelling also (we don't know everything yet until the very end), own made (edited?) graphics, original monsters and puzzles. Very good

Overall: 9.8/10: Nearly can't be better. wink1.gif Only, there's not magic. I'm a fantasy jerk, i NEED magic in a game.
seacapn
well this is scifi, laser guns for you.

WOAH! This game rocks! I love it! I love how you overused coffee in this game, because I LOVE COFFEE!

but I like the Zelda/Sci-Fi theme to it, that is not easily achieved with a good storyline. I am at the part where I have to speed in my vehicle to make it in the time limit. HARD! You know, Chapter 2: Water.

1 & 2) Fixing in progress. Well observed. biggrin.gif
3) Reshaped the code a little to set the 'life' variable to 0 straight away on contact with the upgraded shots. I'll have to test this a bit more, but from now on it should be one-hit-kills for those. Thanks again.

News

As well as the 'usual' download link, there's now the YoYoGames page for Ark 22 where you can download and rate the game and many others, as you're probably all aware. I recommend it - it's fun.

Secondly, there's still Indie Game Showcase where you could rate Ark 22 if you've enjoyed what you played and you're feeling vote-y. There's more and more games on there every day, including several other GM creations like Clean Asia and AHOVI - vote!

Enjoy. biggrin.gif

Oops!
I just found out I posted the wrong reply at the wrong game. I also was busy trying out another game that I saw in someones sig. (BOUNCE2) Sorry, I'm a bit clumsy.

Anyway, I played this game a time ago, and I found this game has the right place in the staff's choices!
I really enjoyed playing it, but after a few hours I got stuck, and lazy as I am, I just quit playing. (I don't like to try things over and over again rolleyes.gif )
But don't worry, I'll try again. biggrin.gif
This game is one of the best RPGs I ever played, and without any doubt the best in GM!
Thanks for this masterpiece! biggrin.gif

Could anyone give me any pointers to a little problem I have? I love this game so far, and reckon it deserves all the positive comments and things, but I've gotten myself stuck looking for directions at the start of chapter 2.
I've gotten the directive to say I need to find the way - gone as far east into the looping zone as I need - and talked to the guy who gave me the map... I can't find his directions though, and I'm sure I've gone everywhere, talked to everyone and looked at everything I can...
I.Q. of Spam
I don't suppose I need to tell you that this game could have made you a fair amount of cash had it been commercial...

By the way, what do you do to kill the final boss' second stage? Those weird crab legs that try to stab you - I can't figure out how to kill them. Or does it just take forever?
Seco Xekko
acra:
In the room with the guy who gave you the map, move to the southeast side of the room and stand on one of the sheets of paper. I remember that you get the directions there.
Some things to keep in mind though...
- The directions start immediately from the room east to the place with the small booth.
- If you want to get back from the village, you will have to reverse all the directions. For example, if the direction is "N-W-S-E", getting back would be "W-N-E-S". (That's not the real direction for the game, of course, see for yourself!)

IQ of spam:
I admit that the final boss was really hard to kill, but it's possible. The difficulty of killing it is matched only by the pyramid from the 4th dungeon.

First, you'll have to freeze and slash the legs, one by one, until there's none left. There are two ways to temporarily freeze a leg:
- Put a kytri bomb in the leg's path and the bomb will blow the leg frozen for a few seconds.
- Shoot the leg with your pulse rifle. The leg will also freeze.

You can slash the leg and deal damage to it when it's frozen. Be careful though, as the number of legs dwindle, the legs remain frozen for a shorter period of time, so act fast! Besides, save some health for the last part, the boss can live without its legs.

Srehpog:
Let them eat cake! Or better yet, how about if we just keep in touch with each other... PM me, I've got some things to say (and perhaps ask) to you.

Keep it up, you're my favourite GM star. cool.gif (even more than Mark himself)

PS: All my friends gave up before chapter 5. Oh well.
