Is it possible to allow the player of a game to create/initialize/set their own variable? For example, they press a button that runs the execute_string() function, and they enter something like "make_var(name,value)." They can then later do the execute_string() function again to edit or print this variable.
Why would I want to do this? I want to have custom in-game scripts that the player creates themselves, either in the game itself or in notepad. A certain object executes this script to follow the users commands. The commands aren't difficult, and are mostly just creating/checking variables to know when to run premade gml scripts.

This is the official Idea thread for a new game of mine called Regnum Res. This is an RPG style game mixed with many elements from Pokemon.

I was thinking of making a Pokemon like game because I watched a Youtube Vid of a game made in RPGMaker Xp, called Iconmon. I thought the digital/virtual, yet still real-ness of it was cool. This game no longer exists, in source code or exe so I thought it was safe to copy it. After a while I decided to make it unique and different, but I just couldn't decide what my creatures would be! I didn't like the desktop icon thing, but the general idea was still the same. I thought of computer virus like things, actual creatures, and even Desktop Icons. My creatures idea was still "fake," however, so I decided to, instead of making them "tomogatchis," I would make them from another dimension!

The company who created this "game" would hold tournaments and such, like the Elite 4 of Pokemon, and players of that game, "trainers," would go around scanning their surroundings for creatures or even trainers to fight.

Hi. I am making a card game. The engine is coming along well and is almost finished, so I've decided to give my cards illustrations to spruce it up for an upcoming demo.
My request is simple:
Draw up a card illustration! I will describe the cards that need an illustration to help the process(so a big bad axe wielding dude won't look like a staff toting fairy!), but how it looks is compleatly(sp?) up to you. You can either sign the image with your name, or type your name in the post along with the image to receive credit. I prefer real names or nicknames, please no usernames like xxGMdude1234xx, that would just look weird in the game credits and cards.

1. EXP-001
Desc: Its a big, automated, ai driven battle mech. No pilot required! Its weapons consist of a missile 5 pack, and a plasma riffle.
2. The Immortal
Desc: He is an immortal human who has ravaged the earth for hundreds of years, cursed to live the lives of a thousand men. His powers consist of desintegrating any opponent with a single touch, but this also kills himself, so he has never used it. He wields a vicious yet mystical looking sword. He can also produce a rather large ball of flame to attack.
3. Virus
Desc: Virus is a human who uses a flaming laser beam weapon. He also has a dark colored energy sabre, and throws boomerangs at his foes. They call him a Bio-Soldier.
4. Oreon
Desc: Oreon is a crustacean-like alien from another planet. He has huge claws that crush his foes, can release spores that poison his opponent, and his body is large and sturdy for body slams. He has 6 clawed legs and a large crab-like lower half. His upper half is that of a human, as though he is a centaur.
5. Trisilis Neravi
Desc: This is a very tall, humanoid alien that uses melee, normal punches and kicks are this beings style. It can also produce a ball of energy from its long 3 fingered hands.
6. Super Saax
Desc: He is a humanoid alien and bounty hunter who wears a body suit of spacey armor. He wields a medium sized energy pistol and small, large pistol sized, flamethrower. He likes to use melee as well.
7. Satellite XT-10
Desc: This is a small star ship designed for combat. It is equipped with a very powerful heat laser, a normal laser, and a 10 pack of missiles
8. Sirrus
Desc: Like Saax, he is also a humanoid alien and bounty hunter who wears a full suit of spacey armor. Unlike Saax, Sirrus wields a standard, yet futuristic machine gun; a broad, shield-shaped gun dubbed "The Shield Blaster;" and throws grenades.
9. EXP-002
Desc: An upgraded version of the EXP-001, the 002 looks about the same, yet wields an energy riffle; a 12 pack of super powerful, yet compact missiles; and a magnum-like riffle
10. Rocket-FNL
Desc: His abbreviation isn't FNL for nothing, as he is probably the FiNaL opponent you will ever face! He is an AI driven battle mech, like EXP-002 and 001. He wields a plasma cannon, a 10-pack of missiles, and a Tri Laser(like the triangular laser Predators have)
11. Archanite
Desc: This alien is an arachnid. It sprays out acid, and can crush its opponents with its powerful limbs.
12. The Eagle
Desc: The Eagle is a battle ship like the Satellite XT-10, but it faster, stronger, and better equipped. It has a 5 pack of very powerful missiles, a very powerful plasma cannon, and a laser rifle.
13. Trisilis Phlyzer
Desc: This things is a humanoid alien of the Trisilis race, like the Neravi, but this one is shorter and has wings. It has a single eye, that can shoot lasers(LOL), and wields a whip. Its powerful wings can also blow its opponents away!
14. Swat Squad
Desc: This is a standard Earthling Swat Team. It should have 4 people featured on it. They wield pistols, machine guns, and have a tank for backup.
15. Psyclops
Desc: Yet another powerful, ai battle mech! This one has a large fist it uses for melee, and an Ion beam weapon mounted to his helmet.
16. Demon
Desc: A typical demon. Charred wings; think, pointed tail; horns on his head or elsewhere; unclothed (yet genital free please!); red skin, maybe a bit charred; muscular; no weapons; uses demonic majik to attack and can conjure balls of flame.
17. Heavy Drill-SLM
Desc: His abbreviation might stand for SLIM, but hes anything but! He is an ai driven battle mech equipped with a drill for one hand, a chainsaw for the other, and a 5 pack of missiles. His body is big and buff.
18. Dark Immortal
Desc: The Immortal eventually died after finding a way to lift his curse, and this is what he became! His curse was cursed so that if it was lifted, the bearer of the curse would be more cursed than before! He wields a wicked red-bladed, double sided battle axe(make it look super cool!) He uses dark majik and can summon lightning bolts to smite his foes.
19. Skull Warrior
Desc: He is a human who is quite buff, but not too big. He wears the skull of a large beast as a helmet, and bones of larger beasts as armor. His legs are bear, and he wears a black, tattered kilt. He wields a white bladed split-sword with a spine looking handle that has the tail bone at the end. His shield is bony and designed for bashing
20. Droid Warlord
Desc: The biggest and baddest of the ai driven battle mechs! Equipped with a plasma cannon, plasma laser, and an 8 pack of missiles, this mech is a force to be reckoned with!
21. Brainiac
Desc: The last ai-battle mech, I promise! This robot is both powerful AND nerdy! He wields no weapons. Think of a cross between a big, bad ass robot with a small wimpy nerd, but keeps most of its robot appearance.
22. Brain-MSG
Desc: Ok, so there's ONE more ai bot! This bot wields two 6 packs of missiles and a super powerful plasma cannon.
23. Clamonoid
Desc: This weird looking alien looks small and weak, but its viciously dangerous! It looks lile a cross between a bird and a clam.... weird.... It attacks with its beak and tallons
24. Mass Murderer
Desc: A crazy looking cereal killer! (pun intended) He wields a chainsaw and has a GIANT spoon on his back!

Multiple Targets?

Hello fellow game makers.
I am trying to create a system where my space ship object can target, and of course shoot at, multiple enemies for a 5 barrel seeker missile pod.
I was going to use an array with 5 indexes to store the 5 nearest objects of my enemy, but I don't know how to go about targeting the 5 closest enemies.... I can do this just fine with a single target, but 5?!
So, how would I find the closest enemy, store it into array index 0, then do it again for index 1, but making sure it doesn't use the SAME closest object as all its targets?
Oh, I would also like if it only has 3 enemy objects in its range, it only targets those 3, and leaves the other array indexes empty so it doesn't create a missile that has no target and moves randomly, lol!

Sol System Planets

I am in need of planets for my new game. The game is a space exploration game with many planets and galaxies to explore. It doesn't have a name yet, but I hear from the beta testers that it is very awesome! But anyway, I need planets from our Solar System. I don't require a specific size, as long as they are proportionate to each other. I am thinking the sun should be 800 pixels in diameter, as this would allow maximum proportionality and detail, but also because the sun is huge, and the ships I use are at a max size of 128x128. I also don't want to have to stretch or shrink any sprites to make them proportionate, as I have done that with other galaxies suns, and it didn't look good. I would like them nicely detailed, but not that shaded, as I can add the shading according to its position around the sun. Atmospheric glow would also be a plus. I prefer real names when giving credit, if you want credit. Any questions? By all means ask, because i don't think I'm very good at wording a request they way I need it...
