I'm sorry guys... I feel like I kind of mislead you. This is really just another tower defense game, with a couple different maps, and like seven different towers. I mean...the upgrading system isn't even that good, there's only one option for a standard range, fire rate, and damage upgrade. I feel like I really could have done a better job of giving the player more control over his defense. ): Idk what to tell you guys... there's really nothing special about this game... or me... I mean really... I got decent grades in high school, and I've been making these little 2d games for like 6 years now but none of them have risen to fame and now I just make them out of habit than out of a love of making them or ambitions for greatness. My SAT scores are decent I guess, I got a 1980, I probably could have done better if I would have studied for the math portion of it but even if I did I'm sure my score wouldn't have been that remarkable. I played tennis for four years in high school, varsity for the last two, but I wasn't that good and stayed in the low doubles and exhibition level of varsity... and our team wasn't even that good so I don't know what that says about me athletically. I feel like this game is a bleak but accurate representation of myself... I'm just mediocre... Sure maybe I have a slightly above average grasp of coding... but that's just because I've been in the game for longer than most people. I guess I want you guys to play it and give me constructive criticism but at the same time there's really no point. I'm done working on it...it's never really going to be interesting, different or fun enough to elicit too much attention... maybe there's someone who will play it just because they still hope to obtain some sort of fame from their games and playing my game, in this weird sort of way kind of restores their faith that people do play games that don't seem like anything special on the outside... and maybe they even believe that their games ARE something special. That if people just played their games they would see how special they were, and that their inability to draw attention is the only thing that stops people from observing their superiority. It's kind of sad when you think about it... how meaningless and vain the motive behind this whole process is. I remember when I would show my games to my peers in high school, and they would all be very impressed and would give me high praise and compliments... but upon reflection the praise I received probably wouldn't have been so generous if they understood the process, and realized that they probably could have made something similar or even better if they had invested the time that I have in game making... idk if anyone has read this far, I probably wouldn't have read this far if it were me... so if you have...then thanks... I guess.
Anyways here's a link to my game... sorry for being such a downer /: Dower Tefense
As I searched "Tower Defense" to find my game so I could copy the url for the link for you, I noticed a game called "Love Space" that had an interesting color scheme and looked decent, but had no plays or ratings. So I clicked on it, probably for the reason I described in the above paragraph, it seemed really cool, but for some reason it'd been out for over a month and no one had taken the time to play it and appreciate all the work that had been put into it. It was a pretty interesting game too. It had a unique idea, well thought out graphics/color scheme, and a good balance between strategy and hand eye coordination. It kind of reminded me of something I used to strive to make when I still made games for the "right" reasons. Then I thought about it... and I realized that the person who made this game will probably come to the same point that I did. He (or she) will realize that all that they are doing is accomplishing nothing, and goes more often than not unappreciated, and making games will become nothing but a habit. I'm going to the University of Washington next year, and I'm going to try to get into the Computer Science major, but honestly I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that because I'm starting out with a 1.9 GPA from an English class I took in high school through UW that I didn't realize would translate over to my college GPA in the future... I've been working with computers since I was a kid, and I don't really know what I'd do if I don't get into the Comp Sci major... maybe I'd switch schools, or study something else like Physics... I guess...
I'm done talking now, thanks for reading all that if you did, I really just needed to get that off my chest. If you play my game and leave little encouraging comments I'm sure that I would find some shallow form of happiness and possibly a greater level of self-satisfaction. K bye.

Change browser to test in?
06 June 2012 - 05:42 AM
I want to use chrome to test out my HTML5 games, but my default browser (because my dad doesn't trust google and I use his laptop) is internet explorer.
Can I change the browser that GM uses every time I go to test my game? Leaving IE open for extended periods of time takes up a lot of memory, and opening it up every time I want to test my game is a pain.
Won't be a problem soon cause I'll have my own laptop and be in college but I'd like to know if I can for the meantime.
thx for time (:

Game Maker for Senior Culminating project
30 May 2012 - 07:34 PM
I made a Nazi Zombies clone with Game Maker for my senior project. Just talking about GML and using a lot of "fancy lingo" like "sprites" "objects" and "surfaces" makes for a very easy, very impressive presentation. Also the game that I made was super sick. (X I'm going to present today at 1:40, so wish me luck (:
For my learning goals I just talked about 1) animation, 2) programming, and 3) distribution. The third learning goal was literally just uploading the games to Yoyogames and Gamejolt
Anyways I was just curious to see if anyone else had used GM for their senior projects- I had a lot of fun doing the project and it turned out to be a really good way to get motivated to actually FINISH a game.
<< final product (:

Open New Window?
13 October 2011 - 01:53 AM
I'm using iframes to present my games online, and I want to do a sort of ad thing, where when you click on it it opens a link in a new window, but instead it just goes to the webpage in the little 120x240 ad box- how do I make game maker open a NEW window?
