How are you supposed to get color from the sky? The character in the story is a complete idiot if she thinks she can just climb up to the sky and grab colors from it.

:P Gotta love that. Apparently, video game story lines must make logical sense.

I suspect 11clock doesn't believe a word of this himself. He's just having some fun carrying on this absurd argument.

And this is why I normally don't pay much attention to video game story lines. Most of them are heavily flawed or don't make much sense. I'd rather just ignore the story and play the game. Rainbows Below can easily be played without understanding the story, I do like that aspect of it. Unfortunately, removing the story removes the theme, or what is of the theme. Oh well.

I'm done arguing. I'm not meaning to bash the game, I just don't agree with its use of theme.

And yes, Pancakes is a bad theme. When I first heard that this was the first theme used in these jams, I was in disbelief. It sounded like a joke to me when I first heard of this theme, and it still does.

You are no true Jammer.

There are themes that are too linear such as "Pancakes," and there are themes that are too vague such as "Disasters" and "Foreign." I would like a theme that can be used in many different ways and it's not difficult to interpret or use. "Facade" is by far my favorite theme so far because of its flexibility and it's easy to see the theme no matter how it's used.

Wait, you like Facade because it's flexible and could be like anything, but hate Pancakes* and Disasters and Foreign because it's vague and could be like, anything.

EDIT: (*What the hell does a "linear" theme mean?)

You misread my post. I like Facade because you can use it in many different ways, but no matter how it's used anyone can see the use of theme easily. I don't like Disasters because practically every game in existence has some sort of disaster in it. I don't like Foreign because everyone has their own interpretation of the word and most people won't understand the use of theme for one game while others will. I don't like Pancakes because there's not much you can do with it. I looked at several games in that jam and they were either cooking games or they just had pancakes in completely unnecessary places.

Yes, Lune's game used the whole lack of color story, but I didn't see how the story tied to the gameplay at all. Why is this guy climbing a mountain? What could possibly be at the top of the mountain to bring color back to the world? The game's story could of easily been,"A guy is climbing up a tall mountain for treasure," which makes a lot more sense than the story it currently has.

Oh, come on. Play the cutscene again.
The girl thinks that maybe if she got to the top of the mountain, she can get back the color that is foreign to her at the moment, from the sky (and thus have rainbows below again). It's pretty neat considering how it blends both the theme and handicap together. I don't see why that's so confusing.

This "vague" theme could have been interpreted in a lot of ways. Specifically why it was a good theme. I don't think people would like linear themes which would produce the same type of games.

And the story still doesn't make sense to me. How are you supposed to get color from the sky? The character in the story is a complete idiot if she thinks she can just climb up to the sky and grab colors from it. The problem is, Lune's game isn't a game that really needs a story. The current one is unnecessary and pointless.

Let's just say that the theme sucked this time.

No, let's not. Let's say you're being annoying about Lune's game, and leave it at that.
(Also, don't diss pancakes, it's not a bad theme)

Hey, I liked Lune's game. It was my second favorite game this time. I just don't see the use of theme at all, and no one has yet to change my mind. I can still insert the comment I've already said three times because no one has yet bring it down. The whole lack of color story does not make sense with the rest of the game and it can be easily discarded in favor of something more fitting for the game, that's why I don't think the game fits the theme very well. My game also used the theme in the story, but the story is actually involved in the gameplay due to the large amounts of symbolism between the story and the gameplay. I'm not saying that my game deserves the "best theme-based" game award, because there are several games that used the theme better than me, but it's a good example for this situation because it handles the theme in a similar way to Lune's game.

And yes, Pancakes is a bad theme. When I first heard that this was the first theme used in these jams, I was in disbelief. It sounded like a joke to me when I first heard of this theme, and it still does.

Let's just say that the theme sucked this time. Not as bad as "Pancakes," but still. Foreign is just a very hard theme to use in games. While Distant Mind is my favorite jam entry I made, I didn't really like this jam. I want to see more themes like "Facade."

I liked the handicap a lot, though.
