The Gimp Intro

03 October 2007 - 03:40 PM

yeah, because MS paint sucks, i took the time to learn the GIMP for you guys and show you how to use a more powerful tool suited for pixel art. now i don't claim to know everything about this software, i was learning it while i wrote this tutorial. in fact, i use Photoshop on a daily basis for my work. but if you have an ounce of common sense, this should point you in the right direction. hopefully...
if you don't get something or find an error, post it here and i'll see if i can't help ya.

Items covered in the tutorial:
  • basic layout of the software
  • basic tools used for pixel art
  • explanation of concepts such as layers, paths, and channels
  • tips for using the GIMP for pixel art
  • in depth look at optimizing images and creating pallets for sprites/textures
Tutorial:
RAR
Zip

btw, for those of you who don't know, the GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. this is free, open source software that is easily obtainable. so there is no reason you should be stuck in the vice of MS paint anymore. Get it HERE
i'll be hitting you guys up with a 3D modeling tutorial in a week or two as well. keep an eye out for it if you're interested.

Doing A Few Requests

01 July 2007 - 05:11 AM

i'll doing a few request up until the end of July or until i get tired, whatever comes first. i do most forms of digital art, from sprites to animation, concepts, banners and digital paintings, even 3D. a few things before you guys go shouting off requests though:

1. please keep it simple
2. please be very specific. those that aren't won't even be looked at
3. please be patient. if you bump before 3 days or otherwise get impatient, i'll drop the request
4. no Pokemon or other pre-existing characters/designs
5. oh yeah, and credit would be appreciated
6. no links to other threads, post the info here
