Katuko, that seems like a great idea, except that's how every RTS does it. And ynspyryd, I got your joke, but doesn't electricity need either a ground, or positive source to go to?
But that metal pillar gave me an awesome idea!
I know i'm breaking formation hear, but how about having two ships with electricity running between them, to attack enemy ships. The closer the ships are, the greater the damage to the ships between. This effect would be multiplied by having more ships to create more lines. This could create an extremely strong network of these ships.

Well, I thought electricity moved through the ionic gas particles in the air. but giant invisible metal pillars in the sky also makes sense.

Wow, it's so hard to read the item names of a page and a half of posts. People take the care to read your post, you should read theirs.
Magnetic Nuke
Uses magnets to pull enemy ships together, and then detonates, allowing for maximum damage.

I have two for you.
Name: LFD, or Low Frequency Distributor
Sends a long pulse of low frequency energy to shake apart a ship. This would take a few seconds to do, but can effect a large area at once.
Appearance: Unseen, except for slight distortion
Name: Acid Spray
Releases a spray of acid into an area. This would eat away at any nearby ships. Unfortunately, it is slow and widespread, for short range use only. It is basically the shotgun of the ships.
Appearance: Green goop. It is sprayed across the entire area.
Name: Acid Bomb
A lot like the acid spray, except is launched into space, and then detonated. This contaminates an area.
Appearance: Metal slug, until it explodes, and then is like the normal acid.
You could use acid as a main weapon for one of your races.
This next one is more of an attachment really.
Magnetic Hook:
Can be attached to normally non-guided bombs/missiles to make them slightly guided. They would only become homing if they are near enough to an enemy ship.
Appearance: Would look like a blue shell surrounding a normal weapon.
I just wanted to say something about most of these weapons. In space, there is nothing for electricity to flow through, so sending electricity from ship to ship would be impossible.
EDIT: Added appearances
