Hello GMC!
I'm currently developing my first commercial project, and will hopefully have it available to sell on at least one market by the end of this month or early next month. However, my graphics artist has been rather unproductive due to the burdens of everyday life and can no longer contribute to the project.
The game is a top-down wave based survival game. I will discuss more about the game in detail in private, as well as share some early development videos.
This is where you come in! I need a professional and dedicated artist to assist me. The position offers profit sharing from sales, which we can also discuss in private.
I need quite a bit of artwork, and may need to acquire multiple artists if you do not feel up to the task.
I am looking for top down alpha-transparent animated sprites in the following categories:
-Heroes (Warrior, Ranger, Wizard)
-Enemies (Goblins, Skeletons, Trolls, etc)
-Power Ups (Health, Armor, etc)
-Environments (Forest, Desert, etc)
-Menu
-HUD
If we work well together, I would like to continue to work with you on upcoming projects.
If you are interested, please message me with your portfolio and/or some examples of your work.
Please note, I am looking for professional and mature candidates only.
Also take into consideration that you will need to file/pay taxes on any income you receive from the game sales.
I look forward to working with you!
Thanks,
-Billy

Packing/Combing files
16 January 2011 - 01:59 AM
I am currently looking for a way to combine all similar resources into one file. For example, combining all external image files into one file.
I've figured out how to do this with one image using the binary file functions, however, i am uncertain how to add more files and still know where one image starts and ends.
Can anyone offer me advice on the subject?

GM7 vs GM8

I've been noticing that some games I make in GM8 suffer from a lower frame rate than those made in GM7 on my girlfriends laptop.
Do games made in GM7 run better on older machines than games made in GM8?

Online Communication

For a game I am working on, I plan on updating the inventory from the server when it is opened.
However, I am wondering if sending the full inventory worth of data is too much information to send.
The inventory is 36 spaces, stored in an multidimensional array, including information such as item_id, item_amount, and is_stackable.
By sending three bytes per inventory space, this adds 108 bytes on top of the tcp/ip header.
Would this be logical, or is this too much data to send in one message?

Custom Cursor Coordinates

I am using a custom cursor in my game, and the mouse position staggers as the view changes.
The cursor is implemented in its own object, which calls
I've tried changing the event to step and begin step, but have not fixed the stagger.
What are possible solutions to this problem?
