Hello there,
Me and my team are looking for graphic artists who might be paid, depending on the outcome of our game and overall success, that can draw high quality Top-Down perspective sprites. These will concentrate mostly people and cities so the ability to draw cars, buildings, people, guns, streets, etc.. is what we are looking for. The style will be a bit scary as we are going to be make (Drum Roll Please) a zombie survival game with elements of indirect RTS and sandbox incorporated. As part of the team you will have an opinion on game development and design, which we would really appreciate if you could throw your two cents in every now and then and hopefully we would love to bring you with us on future projects.
We are still doing a lot of development so, at least for now, the position will be a bit lazy as figure out different styles and approaches to images we will be using in our game. Please contact me with a unique example( one you have created just for me :D ) of your ability as a graphic artist.
Also, to give you a good idea of what we kind of want for our project, look at this video of Dead Frontier when it was 2D. The images in this game closely resemble the quality and dark feeling that I would love to see in our game => http://www.youtube.c...h?v=gFjK4pruWBQ

Minecraft and a new series
06 July 2011 - 06:55 AM
Hey guys, I am sure that most of you who come past this topic already know about Minecraft and its pure awesomeness. For those who do not know what it is you can check it out at Minecraft.net. Basically its a simple game based around blocks which you can place and destroy. Its a survival type game for the most recent mode but allows a creative build only style for free and a new update will include an "Adventure" gamemode. The layout is simple where you have to gather resources and build stuff, crafting new tools and items as you settle yourself into the new world. It includes a singleplayer and a multiplayer for all that fun and new possibilities online with friends! I really recommend you guys check it out!
Something else though, the real reason I am here, is to tell you guys of a new little "Minecraft Series" that was started be me and some friends which centers around a small private community as they struggle to survive their crazy thoughts, the worlds harsh nature and all those creepers! You can check out a simple trailer here, and if you like what you see go to the channel and check out all the cool episodes and bonus videos. For even more information I suggest you visit the minecraft forums topic which will give lots of info and feedback to those who have something to say( we will also try to post here aswell )!

Draw Surfaces...?
08 January 2010 - 08:06 AM
I have a simple test script
And thats the only object with the only events and code and the room is 640x480 standard gray. Somehow I get this...

Any suggestions what might be causing this? Its a real dent in my game making
.
//Create Event my_surface = surface_create( room_width, room_height );
//Game End Event surface_free( my_surface );
//Draw Event draw_surface( my_surface, 0, 0 );

Valvx Recruiting
13 July 2009 - 09:48 AM

ValvX is now taking up on some people for game development, and other applications.We would like it if you have been with Game Maker more than 6 months( atleast on GMC )You must be committed to stay with the team and not to leave whenever you feel like.
Maybe... you?
Spriter(0) - A spriter who has general skills at spriting in different type of game such as but not limited to { Top Down, Side, animation }.
Why only one? It is easier to maintain a steady style of sprites with one person.
Image Editing(0) - Does more of the greater and artistic aspects of a game such as titles and various textures. Usually most of the work is used as concept art and other things that appear throughout the game. Tools that really needed are only Gimp or Photo shop. Perhaps MS Paint if your so pro!
Programmer(3) - A programmer must show skills in not only GML, but some other languages as well to show us that you know what is truly happening. Our projects range from 2D to 3D and you will be placed for a job that best suits your abilities. Your job will be mostly to design small parts of the bigger job. Our more experienced programmers will get to work deep into the game engine!
Designer(0) - Some people might disagree, but your job can be challenging at times. You will mostly be based on developing intro screens of our games to best show off a good overview of the game and also developing trailers for post-game release. You might also be required to develop game play and design of the game such as fonts, and colors. We do not require background check of such a job, but we ask that you join only, if you know you are ready for the job.
Human Resource(0) - You will be in charge of scaling the GMC and other internet sites to find which aspects of game that should be included. For this job, you must have good connections with lots of people on the internet, and in your family or friends. We don't care if your the most hated person on the GMC, or any other forum, just as long as you provide us with education we need to create a game that can best meet with the demands of our gamers.
New to spriting or programming - Apply as well, we are willing to take a few new people and teach them all about spriting or programming!
Why so? Well its easier to sport 2 or more spriters that consist of the same style. So if one person teaches someone else, at least some of his style will be rubbed in!
Pay Day - No good deed should go unrewarded - Don't be expected to be paid 1 week after you join. Actually, don't expect to be payed after 1 year you joined. What you make it a % of what you contributed to a game, and any money that is made off that game. Most, if not all of our games, will be free ware so remember, don't expect a pay check.

A New Front, Surfaces
09 July 2009 - 08:39 AM
I have never really used surfaces and is now at a dilemma... How do I go about drawing sprites under the black screen I create using the function draw_clear_alpha( col, alpha );( Notice the key words here! )?
If you need the code I'm using, here you go... it shows my attempt of figuring it out using blend modes...
If you can help me out, I will gain a whole new perspective of making games in Game Maker....

//Step Code, I know all other pieces of code work!
surface_set_target( global.lights )
draw_clear_alpha( c_black, .90 );
with( obj_block )
{
draw_set_blend_mode( bm_subtract );
draw_sprite( spr_block, image_index, x, y );
}
draw_set_blend_mode( bm_normal );
surface_reset_target();If you can help me out, I will gain a whole new perspective of making games in Game Maker....
