Gravity Lift / Wind Blower

28 December 2009 - 03:02 AM

Hey guys, this is the base for my gravity lift.

All i need is an animation of what looks like wind blowing up. I don\'t know how to describe it, but it just has to look like wind (or force etc) being pushed upwards from the base. If you could make it go about 200 pixels in height, and slowly fading out as it gets to the top, that\'d be awesome ;)

Thanks,

Map Creator / Level Editor Design

20 December 2009 - 10:38 PM

Hey guys, i've got no problems programming my level editor system which i've created, except i've ran into some problems. What currently happens is up the top there are 5 drop down menu's. The first one is the OBJECTS list. You click this, and depending on what object type is selected, the objects for that type are displayed in a list. You can then scroll through the object type, to display all objects. My problem is, i have added more objects for certain object types, for them all to fit on the screen. I could make a scroll bar for the drop down list, but it would be annoying to have to scroll down for objects, then scroll back up all the time etc. I would like to change the whole display of my map editor, so it's easy to find objects etc.

Does anyone have any good examples of easy to use map editors that i could have a look at? Maybe just some good ideas to help get rid of this issue?

Thanks guys,

Scotty

Hamachi With Gm

19 October 2009 - 06:51 AM

Hey guys, my game works perfectly fine through a LAN connection. I have tested it with my 2 computers which are joined together via a cable. I can successfully create a session on one computer, and join it on the other computer to play my multiplayer game. I wanted to use hamachi so people could play over the internet on a LAN connection, so i downloaded it and installed it on both of my computers. I pulled out the cable which was joined to my 2 computers, disconnecting them from each other so there was no LAN connection. I then created a server on 1 hamachi (computer 1) and joined that server on computer 2. I thought that by doing these 2 simple steps, my 2 computers would be in a LAN connection once again. But when i go to play my game like usual, i cannot find each other's multiplayer sessions. Am i doing something wrong?

I have read that the connection must always be UDP, not IPX protocol, which is fine because i am not using IPX, i am using TCP.

If anyone knows why this 'might' not be working, please let me know, as i would LOVE to get this game working with hamachi.

P.S I remember a few months ago i got it working once, but after editing some codes it doesn't work anymore. I have no idea why :s

Deactivating Objects

21 June 2009 - 01:39 AM

Hey guys, i've been using GM for nearly 3 years now, and not once have i needed to use deactivating objects, until now.. I am finally causing lag in my current game Halo Revolution, so i'm experimenting with deactivating objects outside of the view. I have figured out that this is the result of the lag, and by deactivating objects outside of the view does boost the games fps up to a constant 30 (which is 100%). I am now going to try and adjust my game to work with deactivating objects, however i have a few questions;

* I am firstly activating all instances, and then deactivating only those outside of the view's region, much like the example in the game makers help file. I am then re activating certain objects such as controller objects, HUD objects etc. Because some objects work using more then 1 object, i recieve errors because they do not exist (when they're not activated). For these objects, i have chosen to activate them, no matter where they are in the room. One of these objects is a vehicle, which consists of a body, 2 wheels and a weapon. When i reactivate this object, it's fine, HOWEVER because the ground object is deactivated, the vehicle just falls through the ground when it goes out of the view, and when i go back so that it would be in the view, it is gone.. I Cannot activate the ground objects to prevent this from happening, as all of the lag comes back and i'm back to square one... Any suggestions how to get around this??

I may ask more questions relative to deactivating objects as they persist. The problems that are completed will have a strike through them.

Thanks,

Scotty

Ai Programmer Request - Only Ai Programming

08 June 2009 - 01:43 AM

Hey guys/girls, i really need someone who is very talented at programming AI. For my game Halo Revolution, i have the engine pretty much completed with all weapons, most vehicles, all equipment, multiplayer, and heaps more. The one thing that it needs though is AI. I'm not just looking for AI that can walk around and shoot, that's easy. I need a pretty complex AI system to work for multiple AI's, that can easily be adjusted with what team they're on (so they could even fight each other), their health, if they have a weapon, how fast they can move etc.

If you believe you are good at AI programming, please send me a PM with an example of your work. If you wish to check out the game, search for Halo Revolution. It's a pretty big game at the moment, with over 2200 posts (110 pages) in the topic! We have a very professional website and would like to continue to make the game awesome. We're also making multiplayer game modes

So yes, this game will go ahead, it won't just die with your good AI.

Looking forward to seeing your work!

Scotty
