Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I read the description of An Untitled Story on Gamemakergames.com and it said people were bothered by how it uses the in-game particle system. Why is this?

How does the grid system work? I want to use it coz I heard it can do pathfinding while maintaining the character on a grid cells and not go diagonally, etc.

Grow Ideas

First off, this topic is to discuss the idea of grow games. If you dont know them, go to eyezmaze.com and play some. Gamemaker game Sandbox of God is another example.

The idea goes like this: You are presented with some objects to place on the game screen, click those objects to place them there and any other objects in the playing field may level up depending on the situation.
Situations include:

none, after placing an object, this other object will level up immediately
object required, after placing an object, this other object will see if a certain other object is present and then level up
e.g. A pot is present in the playing field, it has levelled up as much as it can at the moment, it can level up some more if fire was present, this will make it level up into a boiling pot


There have been some variants, but not very good ones. Sandbox of god was excellent, there was this crappy pirate flash game on the net aswell.
So why wont we popularize this game type? We can mix it with any type of game.
e.g.

maze, not only must you click the objects in the right order, but you must be in a certain place aswell. If you click the stone object, it must land on the player because the player cant pick it up
[shooter, your gun is equipped with object holders, your ammo is determined by how you mix up your objects
racing, same as shooter, but here, mixing the objects in certain orders can give you bonuses like boosting your speed
rpg, this is my favorite example, its a whole new idea for an rpg. You explore around collecting objects and using them to get past obstacles, some obstacles in secret areas can only be cleared by rare objects obtainable from hard quests, massive money, rare monster drop, challenging to reach areas. You can weaken bosses with this aswell
platform, take An Untitled Story, imagine that to beat the cannon boss, you must power yourslef with the ability to jump, which is possible my mixing objects in the right order


So post what you think about these ideas and what would be good in grow games

how do i make a realistic water flow like if there is a waterfall on top of an empty hole, the hole will slowly fill with water, basically when water flows into an object i want it to realistically fill up the object without using many little water objects
