Selling My Game In A Store Experience + Marketing

03 May 2013 - 01:23 AM

Hey guys and gals,

This is my experience of selling my Gamemaker creation in a store, hopely it will help someone(i hope!).

I am going to make this as NON-BORING as possible :P

First of i went to the store and ask if they would like to place my product in the store and since i had no history with them what so ever they agreed but told me that i will ONLY get revenue when a copy sell and HELL YEA!!! i was in, its better then nothing baby.

So there it was my product standing around in a store, as a game and software developer that is coming up i had no IDEA! of the word "Marketing" its a cool but cheesy name at the same time, it can be your best friend or your worst enemy there is no between the lines  :yucky:.

So without this "friend" Marketing on my side my products was just starting to gather dust on them so i said we need to start moving lazy cow! so i went to a few TV stations and talk about the product and as soon as that happened BOOM! everyone was buying it(not everyone but about 15 peoples, to me its allot :P) and my stock broke... it was a nightmare but after a few days the hype got killed again and the evil dust monster started to creep on my products again so i had to keep on going to TV stations till they all got used up :P

Now this is where the real hard work comes in, in able to keep getting revenue you have to do things on your own.

I went to the store and started giving Demo demonstrations and guess what it works, from time to time... i am practicing 2 weeks already and you can see the video's below:

First week: http://youtu.be/4VTYGeXdUco

Second week: http://youtu.be/WNrz9FLsIG8

Since i don't have a car i have to carry my laptop or PC(with the monitor offcourse) to the city and then catch a bus to the local shop. In these times of struggling you will notice that you are short on friends and IF your lucky you may have a few that will support you and help you but in my case i was all alone.

Now this is really struggling but YOU HAVE to do it, its a mentality that you have to crawl before you can walk.

So what would my advice to newcomers be?

  • Remember your new so your going to be struggling:
You may not be SEEING the result's but you are progressing so keep your head up high and keep on moving, remember that no hard work goes undone and if its possible Vlog or Blog everything you do, it helps to show that you really mean business

  • Plan everything realistically:
You want everything planned and you will also want to have plan A, B AND C... There is a saying that being enough prepared is never enough. I will stress allot on this one... PLEAS...I MEAN PLEAS... be realistic with yourself...Cmoooon buddy we both know that you planned some unrealistic things in your past... don't do it... it doesn't always work out... an example of this is that if you are not financially healthy don't go and think your going to be able to send commercials on CNN

  • Marketing is your friend...if its not it is NOW!(i think this one is self explanatory)

  • Always be positive:
Even if your in the most disparate moments think positive, it will shape your actions into something beautiful ..If your religious then pray to God and if your atheist focus on nothing and just think positive as off everything is alright.. even how stupid it sounds... Just do it!

Anyway guys, i hope these helps you guys out and i hope you guys can comment and tell me what you guys think of my post and if you have more Tips for new comers pleas post them also.

Here is the picture(imagine it in HD resolution) :Posted Image

If you help me and things go good for me i might even give you 10$, who knows.
If you made a design you can openly post it in this treat or PM(if you dont want anyone else to see it) it and my friend and fellow developer is also looking for a designer so this can be your way right in to make some easy money. If you also know books or links to help someone make their design capacities better pleas let me know of them
Thanks in advanced.

Gamemaker and HD resolution

12 July 2012 - 07:38 PM

After experimenting with gamemaker and making a few games i decided that now i want to make an HD game.
But my problem comes in the settings, in the room i have the resolution set to 720p(1280x720).
in the settings i have the game for fullscreen but i feel deep inside that i am doing something wrong.
I would also want to know if someone doesn't have an HD resulotion screen, is it possible from the settings to scale the game to the current person's resolution IF the person's screen doesn't have any higher resolutions?

This is how my settings look :

PS : Can someone explain to me the scaling feature in depth? and for a 720 HD resolution which resolution would you recommend me to use(for 720 HD) or should i not change it?

How i made $2500 and went to tv with gamemaker

10 June 2012 - 03:38 PM

78062086.jpg

Hey guys,
My dream was always to become a game developer but when i was 12 everyone told me that it was impossible because only big companies and very smart people filled with math diploma's can make video games, but i never surrendered my dream even after all the things i heard on how hard it is to become a video game developer... but when i was 12 i received my first computer and i just got introduced to google...the website that they said has all the answers and indeed it was...i remembered like it was yesterday, i typed : How do i make a game?...and after downloading 2 different softwares i slammed into gamemaker 6...i installed at it and looked at it and opened a few examples but was frustrated and uninstalled it, but after 2 weeks i realised it was the close i got to making a game so i searched the internet for it and downloaded it back and thats how i started with gamemaker.

Now i know you dont care how i met gamemaker but i just felt like i should of put it, anyways lets get back to business...
As the tittle says i made $2500 with a software i made and this is how i did it :
I made a training math software for elementary school students and i packaged it nicely in a box just like other professionaly made softwares and i sold it in a store.
now the product is in the store but no one knew about it so i had to market it a little so i volunteered to present myself in a lokal tv show to talk about the software and it went VERY GOOD i must say... here is the video of me in the tv show talking about the software : Click here
But i felt like it wasn't enough so i asked a company for donation and they donated allot of copies of CD's to 5 different schools, i was happy that day and i recorded it on my camera when we was deliviering the CD's : Click here
I also went to another TV show but i did not get the time to record it.
But i felt like i was still missing something so i made flyers and gave them at schools, etc

And that was the process on how i was able to make $2500
The software is only sold localy but there is a demo that can be downloaded here
We also have a facebook page were you can keep up to date with the news : Click here for facebook page
