Reading/writing Of Excel Files

25 January 2009 - 03:44 AM

Ok. As a result of a few coincidences, I'm creating some educational software for my school as my Major Design project. Anybody who remembers the big survey I conducted for the project earlier, sorry I couldn't make that finely tuned game design - gotta look for where I get the best marks here.

But more to the point, it's fairly important that the software can read/write Excel files. Unfortunately I've been a bit reckless these last few weeks and don't have the time to use anything other than GameMaker. Is there any way of doing so?

Gaming Survey (results Are In, 1540 Responses!)

Ok, and after a large amount of Excel-fooling, I've managed to tabulate some of my first results to some extent. There's been a great response, the GMC I imagine around 100 people went ahead and filled it out. The results are kind of interesting - so far I've got info on game content, genres, systems and purchase locations - with more to come soon

You can find the results here on my blog. Let me know if you want me to whip up a table with some data for you, I'll more than likely be able to whip something up in good time.

Hey! I'm creating a game for my Major Design Project as my final year at school, and one of the first requirements is for me to investigate my market. This community's part of my market, being game players and all. Just hoping you guys'd be keen and interested in taking part - I'm going to publish the results and analysis in around two weeks, so you'll be able to learn from it just as much as I will. This is being posted across quite a few communities, so there'll hopefully be enough responses that the results will be pretty valid. All it requires is your responses... it won't take long, I promise.

Thanks in advance!

Eggs With Legs! (and Other Such Strange Things)

Eggs with Legs
(and other such strange things)

Take control of multiple characters in this puzzle platformer - an egg with legs (and pants!), confused bombs, and more!

The game has been completely hand-drawn with pen-and-paper, it's kinda neat. The game should be easy to just pick up and play, so give it a shot! Try your best to unlock the extra characters, or to get 100% completion!

Thanks to Matt L for doing the character illustrations and a couple of the thumbnails.

I would offer more of a description, but really there's not much more to say - experience it for yourself.

Things! [update] [now With Video...]

03 August 2008 - 02:07 PM

Things!

Anyway, the appeal of this game is that it's drawn entirely by hand - as in, I drew it using a pen and paper, and scanned each image in for use in the game. It looks kinda cool, but that's just me - you should check out the gameplay video.

The gameplay is based around playing as various characters with their own strengths and weaknesses, completing a series of puzzles to collect the objects scattered across the level.

UPDATE! 11/08/08

Ok, I've been working pretty hard on this considering I've gotta manage living a life and getting through school at the same time. Should be able to pick up and go to play, provided you go through the (somewhat) dull tutorial :) It'll only take around three minutes... Just make sure you listen to everything that's said!

There's going to be at least another 10 levels, by the time I get through the development power run (it's just been a matter of constructing the engine), each with a couple of different goals to achieve.

So far, you can attempt to collect the star, and all of the eggs/coins, in each level.

There are two characters at the moment, the Bomb and the Egg. Currently in planning are "Gobbles" and Magnets. What they do, I'm going to leave a mystery.

Note:
If you skip a tutorial instruction by mistake, press H.

LMB shoots the hook, RMB stops it.
Press CTRL to skip through to the next level (there's only two).
