What's With All The 3d Games?

31 December 2008 - 01:08 PM

I'm wondering why people put so much effort and try to make fully 3d games with game maker? While GM has some nice 3d functionality, it's 3d capabilities are sub-par compared to any other free 3d engine I've seen. The fully 3D games made with game maker, at least the ones that i've seen, are all ugly and sluggish. The amount of effort put into making 3d game with game maker is equivalent to the effort required to make a 3d game with almost any other 3d engine. Plus the GM does not have the necessary toolset and features for effective 3D game development.
I've yet to see normalmaps, anisotropic filtering, dynamic bone LODs, antialiasing and animation blending in a 3D GM Game.

Making fully 3d games with GM is like painting with your arse. You can do it, but you know that you can't expect quality results.

So anyway... Why do you (try to) make first person and third person games and what makes you think they will be something more than a laughstock.
I've yet to see a 3D game that isn't.
