GM8 File Import is Corrupt
23 May 2012 - 09:11 AM
Hi all,
There is a GM8 file I am trying to import into Game Maker: Studio (core module + HTML5 module). During BETA stages, it loaded no problem. But now, I get an error message saying that the file is corrupted.
I have a number of copies of this game, and all of them come up as corrupted even though many of them I have not touched since successfully importing them using a BETA build.
Other games generally are importing fine.
Does anybody know what makes a file 'corrupted' according to GMS? Perhaps something like extensions or included files?
Thanks,
-R

"GMSPR" Deprecation
21 April 2012 - 10:51 AM
I must say, I haven't had a chance to seriously dive into GameMaker: Studio, so I'm quite a newb as far as expected functionality and known issues go.
I did report an issue wherein the sprite_add_sprite() function was missing; required to import GMSPR files for use in-game.
I used this feature often (with GMSPR's stored as included files), to dynamically load and unload resources as they were needed to prevent extreme amounts of memory being used.
Russell reports that this feature is deprecated and should not be relied on for GM: Studio.
I'm okay with that - though I'm just wondering if there is a planned alternative for this solution that anyone knows of? I know sprite_add_sprite() isn't the only solution in GameMaker Standard for loading/unloading resources, though it was a damn fine and simple one imho, particularly as GMSPR included all the sprite attributes, such as collision mask and origin. There's going to be a hell of a lot of code to change in my existing projects to take advantage of GM Studio and its cross platform compatibility...
Cheers,
Rhys

IUP Game Bundle

Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd let you know about the Indie Underdog Pack, a game bundle (like the Humble Bundle) that was released this morning. All 6 games, I believe, were created in Game Maker. At the very least, my game was.
For a contribution of $5 or more you get 6 games, to support the further development and release of the respective developers' next projects. We have a goal of $25k.
In my case, you would be supporting the further development of Caveman Craig 2 - porting to other platforms, DLC, etc.
Go here for more info!
Take care,
Rhys

The highly anticipated sequel to the award winning strategy/survival game.
New dinosaurs, new gametypes, new bonuses, and freakloads more.
Here's a trailer. Be careful, it's really awesome.
You can download the playable demo here!
Play Caveman Craig 2 (Demo)
You can buy the full version for just $9.99. Or if you deal in caveman currency, "lot of meat".
