Inclusion Competition 1: Tvtropes
01 May 2013 - 03:16 PM
Hello and welcome to trope runner. This is a short competition that will test your ability to make a game that is flexible enaugh to incorporate anything. During the competition you will get new things that you will have to implement into your game. Everyone will get something else to implement, which will make the things more interesting. Will you be able to make a game flexible enaugh to implement everything?
When does this start how long does it last?
The signups start today. The competition itself starts when enaugh people join, but it will definitely be on weekend. Due to how this works, people will have to sign up before the competition starts because I will have to know the exact amount of people entering. It will last for 3 weeks, no more, no less. Afer the competition is over, judges will have a few days to decide which game wins.
How does this work?
When the competition starts each entrant gets a single word. That will be the theme of your game. The next day each entrant will get a link to a tvtropes trope, and will recieve 1 trope link and 1 word every two days until the end of the second week of the competition. That means everyone will recieve 6 words and 7 tropes, not counting the theme. Theentrants will have to include them into their game. It is not necesary to include every trope and word into your game, but it will affect your game's overall score. That means, if you get the word "comb", it is better to include a minor lame comb based enemy than not to.
Prizes and winners?
There are no prizes, this is only for fun. There will only be the first place, and the other games will not be arranged in any particular order. (This is subject to change, though.)
Judging?
I will need 2 more judges if this gets enaugh entrants, but I will likely do the judging myself. The judges will not be allowed to participate so they can be pbjective when judging. Your game will be judged based on: How fun the gameplay is, how polished the game is (Is it glitchy? How good are the graphics, sounds, music?), how fun the gameplay is and how sucesfully everything was implemented (And did it feel forced or fit well into the game. It will require a bit of thinking to incorporate pizza in a game with some serious theme and make it fit in.) It also matters whether you included everything or not, but sometimes it is better not to include everything if you can't make it fit in.
Jokes That Don'T Work
21 March 2013 - 08:53 PM
This is a topic basedo on another topic from YYGF. It is about jokes that fail in translation from another language to English. So yeah, let's post jokes that loose their punchline in translation.
I'l start.
Here, have a fractal.

Joke explaination, for those who don't want this to be completely pointless:
In German mandel means almond, and brot means bread. Therefore, Mandelbrot

So, I decided to start a FRPG. It is going to be dark and dangerous for characters. It will require you to think before you do anything. You will likely get killed if you take actions too quickly, but the danger will be much lower if you actually act carefully(although that shouldn't prevent you from using hot tempered characters, situtations will partially adapt to characters). There will be no plot shield, that is one of the reasons why it will be dangerous. The sotry won't be black and white. There will be no good guys, and no bad guys.
Okay, how to play this?
How do I make a character?
Just fill this in. This game is designed so that a variety of different characters can fit in. Want to be a space marine? Okay. Want to be an elf? Okay. Want to be a sentient pile of goo? Don't worry, even that will be fine in this game's unverse. Keep in mind you can have a very powerful character with extremely powerful items, but you will have to deal with other powerful characters. Don't hope you will be able to break the game by creating a, say, superpowerful planet destroying being.

Backstory
You wake up. You are blinded by strong light for few moments. You wait a moment until you get used to it. That's right, you can see again. You are alone in a small room. The walls are white and so is the floor. And ceiling. There is no furniture. There is no doors. There is nothing but you in this room. It is flawlessly clean. You try to stand up, but you can't. You feel so heavy. You can barely move. Slowly, you start feeling lighter. You try to stand up once more. This time you suceed. Now you can easily move. You walk around the room. There is no exit. You yell, but nobody hears. You keep getting lighter. Almost like you are flying. Wait, you are flying. You are levitating a bit above the ground. You are rising up in the air until you touch the ceiling. The moment you touch the ceiling, everything around you disappears. You are surrounded by emptyness. There is only black void around you. You start falling. And falling. And falling endlessly. There is no end. There is only YOU.

Unstable Forum Mafia
17 March 2013 - 07:05 PM
This a version of forum mafia which is special because of how every round is different. Some rounds may be basic setups, while others may involve interesting additional game mechanics, events and such. Basically, it is a version of forum mafia which changes a lot. Some of the game mechanics may be that players change the roles every night, setups may be (openly)bastard. Sometimes a setup may be just strange or include interesting roles. But what makes this game special is that is not limited to a single style of play. That means, one round you can have a planecrash mafia styled game, other round you can have some random crazy setup and than a classic setup after that.
First round is going to be a classic open vanilla setup, nothing extraordinary, just for casual mafia players because this forum currently lacks an active classic version of mafia.
Here are the rules, shamelessly ripped from my previous post in which I was the first one here to shamelessly rip it from ELECTROMAN.
How to play this, man?
Now, here's where it gets interesting. No one knows the role of anybody, except fellow mafiosi. So, townies have to use their judgment to correctly identify the mafiosi in their community. Meanwhile, mafiosi will try to stay undercover and blend in with the rest of the crowd.
So, Lukasmah - you ask - how do we kill people?
There are two phases in the game. One is nighttime and the other is daytime. During daytime, people discuss (here) who they should lynch and everybody votes for someone to die that day. When everybody votes and the person is lynched, we enter nighttime. This is where mafiosi discuss between each other through PM who they should kill. When they all agree on someone, they PM me who it is and I declare the death of that person here. Then the next day cycle starts over and it all loops again.
Only the majority of the votes counts. If the votes are even, random.org will decide who gets lynched that day. When a person dies you learn of his/her role.
If you die, you're done. You can't take part in the discussion in any way until the next round. You can, however, win if your alignment wins at the end of the round. The winning conditions of each role depends and are explained at the bottom.
How will it work here, then?
During daytime, when you all finish discussing or when you decide who to lynch, you may place your vote. Please bold it so it is easier for me (I'm lazy, whaddya want?). After that, l announce the death and the role of the person and nighttime begins, where mafiosi will send their target to me, like I previously stated. When Day Two begins, I will again announce the death and role of the person who died, and daytime begins once again.
Self-voting is allowed, so is voting for No Lynch. Whenever you want to remove your vote, you may post (and bold) Unvote. Also, type it before you change your vote. You are given ample time to discuss and try to get your train of thought going, so don't toss off your vote for nothing right at the beginning of the game.
Also, I will have a prodding system. Every member should post at least once every 48 hours (2 days) to get the game moving and avoid long drawn out waiting periods. If they don't, they get prodded. I still have to decide what to do with a member that has been prodded a lot. Every time they are prodded, I send them a PM and tell them they haven't posted in 48 hours.
Finally, any form of external discussion is, obviously, strictly forbidden unless it is stated by the rules to do so (like mafia meetings), be it through PM, IM, chatrooms, forums, etc. If you get contacted by someone else in a situation like that, please warn me.
Also, to avoid some... unwanted incidents that have happened before, posting screenshots of a PM sent by me (be it either real or faked) to prove your alignment will warrant an automatic modkill, no questions asked. Editing posts is also kinda sorta against the rules... Look, if you edit your post, I can normally let it slide, if it is, for instance, to fix a mistake or something small of the sort, or even changing one or two words if no one notices it. If someone else complains you edited your post in a substantial manner, however, I will take it to consideration.
The Roles
Townies Team
- Cop: Every night, the cop can send me a PM containing the name of the member he/she wants to investigate. At the beginning of the next daytime, I will PM him/her and reveal whether that investigated person is innocent (townie) or not innocent (scum).
- Doctor: Every night, the doctor can send me a PM containing the name of a person he/she wants to protect. If that person would die that night, he/she will survive. Cannot self-target.
Mafia Team - Goon: No speciall abilities, gets a mafiosi list and participates in normal voting and mafia meetings. Each round a random mafiosi is picked to do the dirty job, and that person's action will be kill.
The meeting is in the home of the mafiosi who does the dirty job that round.(Don't get bother about last two sentences, mafiosi, those are only important to townie power roles) - Godfather: If investigated, the godfather will appear as an innocent person.
He also never does the dirty job. - Mafia Role Cop: Has the ability to learn the role of a player of their choice each night.
- Roleblocker: Chooses one player per Night to block from performing his or her night action. The target's night action will not be performed.
Third Party - Survivor: The sole objective of the survivor is to survive the whole game. Once the game finishes, the survivor will win if he is still alive plus the normally winning team (townie or mafiosi).
(Those are just example of roles, don't expect them to be limited to the ones from the list)
