So basically, you are giving content, that unlocks content, that will help you unlock content, with witch you may unlock content...
Stop me whenever you feel like it.
An endless cycle of unlockable content can make 2 things happen:
1. replay value is nice, since you can unlock content with any unlocked content. But
2. In a few hours when i have unlocked all content, what will i do? Or if i get bored of all that content?
How about this:
You not only unlock content. Well you do, but not only...
What i have in mind is:
you can spend your points on one of 4 things:
1. Ofcourse, content.
2. Other software, like clocks and calculators.
3. Funny part, an upgrades for the computer, meaning more ram, better videocard, 200Mhz upgrade to the CPU, stuff like this...
4. Another fun part - marketing strategies.
So i drifted a little, but you will not only unlock content to be able to unlock more content. The goal could be market domination, or sales or something...
For example, you have 2 rival companies, and you need to sell 1000000 PCs before they do. So in order to sell your PCs you need to have applications (content and software), speed (upgraded hardware) and advertisement (nice marketing). So you will basically not play for unlocking new stuff, as much as play to sell to win.
You can also make stuff like "NASA is searching for company to hire for building powerful computer system", so your goal will be making the most powerfull PC before NASA have made theyr choice. You don't need marketing for that, you need hardware.
You can see where i'm going with this...
Simply play to be able to play more sounds a little booring, and would need atleast a few dozens of games, implemented in one game. Insted you can still do that with less games, but implement hardware requirements. You will sell better if your PC is the only PC that runs the newest tower defense game :D
EDIT: hell, catboydale's idea of a virus is awesome :D Imagine sending a virus to the competition, that haven't unlocked the antivirus software yet...
