I do not want to give away to much about my game and it isnt really like Diablo 2 more of a tower defense. So to prevent swapping orbs durring a wave I make it so after a wave you have time to craft, swap abilities or items, and some other stuff. If my game was more like Diablo 2 where you can change items any time, I would probably do something similar, you would have to go to a safe hub (A town or village) to swap items or change abilities. Or an alternative is when you swap orbs all your abilities are erased from the action bar (But you still keep the abilities, they are just not bound to the 1, 2, 3, 4 keys).

If I make a Rock Paper Scissor element system I'll probably make it simple and just make enemies take 30% less damage from the element the are resistant to.

@ Yal

The system I am thinking of making is going to be similar to what you said. When you get a Fire-based Orb item, and have it equip you can then choose up to 4 abilities or swap an ability for another from you ability book. I will probably remove the restriction of being only able to use fire abilities if you have a fire orb equipped, meaning you can use any ability with any Orb (I will probably add a 25% more damage bonus if the ability matches the Orb's elemental type, and if not the ability deals 25% less damage).

The reason behind this is I want to see what ability combinations people will use, I have to still think about whether I want a second purpose for this, which is: what if there are fire resistant enemies and you only have fire abilities.

In this game there arn't any classes, like Barbarian, Sorcerer, Hunter, etc, but instead you just start out being able to pick 1 of 4 elemental type Orbs (Fire, Frost, Shock, Poison) and when you collect enough material you can craft more Orbs that will have random stats and elemental type. You can also craft or find Rune Stones to gain new abilities to your ability book, so it is easy to equip a new orb adn swap abilities.

I'm sure voting on an idea will help develop on my existing game ideas. And # 2 and 3 are not the same, #2 lets you use any ability with any orb, but if the elements do not match, the damage of the ability is reduced by half, while #3 lets you use and ability with and orb, but if the element of the ability and orb do match that ability does more damage.

I had an idea, when you die you should lose all your equipted items, which would make sense if your ship explodes, so should the items that were being used.

I like the mini map!

Losing all your equipment would be incredibly frustrating. Instead of them all being completely destroyed, they are left there until you return. Enemy ships in the area could also have scavenged your shipwreck for equipment. Although it would probably be best to just load the last save instead.

I have played hardcore Diablo so I have felt losing my entire character, but I was just suggesting the "lose all equipment" as a possible feature if getting gear isn't to hard, it may be frustrating, but atleast it is a feature in the game that will keep you on edge.
