Yes, sure.
One thing to do would be to make an array of objects, which are 'sticked' to specific parts (0..1 distance) of path each step.
And then just modify the path.
Alternatively, you could search this forum for a script that simulates GameMaker's path curves, and use that to determine coordinates.

sorry, let me be more clear.... use the move action and move in the direction you want for however long on the timeline, than stop the piece with the move action, when you need to.

use a timeline, and move circular sprites and have their objects move up and down and where you want them to, not the most effiecient option, but fairly simple.
