gm- gm4mac failed conversion

07 February 2012 - 03:13 AM

Hello,

I'm currently working on a game project where my programmer is using gm8.1 and I am on gm4mac.
The original file he sent me was a gm8.1 file, which obviously I could not open- but through lateral gm I was able to save it as a .gmk and open it.

however, when trying to play it, the game crashes upon loading. Saving an executable to play did not help either
I was even able to save the file as a .gm6 through lateral gm but that was not playable either

any suggestions on how to make the file playable? Luckily this is the very beginning stage of the game but I need it to be playable on mac before we continue.

Thanks for your time.

creating an "event" tile to go to another room

06 February 2012 - 05:33 PM

Hello, I'm currently working on a " digital art museum" going through the general history of art and the history of pixel art simultaneously.
I want the pieces ( such as the woman of willendorf statue) to be "examined" when pressing the a key- taking you to another room with a large image of each piece. I had the idea of using objects that can be placed around the area where each piece would be viewable, and then if the character presses a while on one of those object tiles, he would be taken to the other room with the art image. How would I do this? I'm unexperienced with GML but i was thinking of somehow checking if the character is in collission with the object, and if so, and the character presses the a key, then he would go to the seperate room. Is this plausible? or is there an easier way to do this?

here is a test screenshot of what I have so far to give you an idea:

Reliable programmer needed for small scale project

02 February 2012 - 02:50 PM

I am looking for an experienced programmer that has good communication to help me work on a project for an alternative media exploration class ( I am a painter at Savannah College of art and Design)

I am currently doing the graphics myself and am approximately 50% done. I have multiple sound designers on standby to work on the project.

I cannot offer monetary compensation, but if you have projects requiring a skilled pixel artist or someone to create concept art for your game I can offer my skills for your time.

here is a rough design document for the planned project, entitled " Project Entropy"

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zYBzpAKs_UyjLUt8PX-sauIbdRu63SjiTXtrpGbvSN8/edit?hl=en_US

The small scale demonstration ( branching off a larger game concept) seeks to explore the concept of fate and circularity. The main character will exist within a game map that grows in visual complexity as you advance in any direction and will house anthropomorphic or otherwise personified symbols of phenomena such as black holes, the concepts of space and time et cetera.

The demonstration will include various references to popular games such as Legend of Zelda and Shadow of the colossus to accomplish similar emotional effects these games seem to impart. The aesthetic style heavily references the limitations of gameboy/ gameboy color art assets as well as glitch art- the latter of which creates a metaphor with the subject matter of various paradoxes that will appear in-game as " glitches in reality or understanding".

Due to class deadlines, there is a month available to complete, so only reply if you are seriously interested. I may have someone else that will also be working on the programming to help things go along

Here are some graphic assets that will give you an idea of the game's style:

As an artist I understand that time is valuable. If you can bring experience, reliability, and help me to create a finished product I am sincere in my offer of graphics services to any projects you may be working on.
