EDIT2: Although this topic has met it's usefulness to me, you can still provide your input if you so choose
As stated here, I am currently in the works of a Top-Down Shooter (TDS). At this point in time, (check sig) I'm around 3% done the game. I've barely started work because I require some inspiration. I thought I could get some inspiration here, as well as start up an interesting discussion
I would like to discuss the follow aspects of an TDS
-Character Design =-{ For example, how the main character should be set up, NPCs... etc.
-Enemy Design, =-{ Difficulty of the enemies, type (zombies, intelligent soliders), and the techniques that they should use
-Physics, =-{ Should there be any? I mean, it's only Game Maker
-A.I., =-{ Aspects, techniques, levels, etc.
Level design =-{ How long is an ideal shooter? 10 levels? 27? 32? etc...
Voice Dialog =-{ Lately, I've been thinking about voice dialog for my game. Is it too much for a GM game in terms of filesize? But it would be pretty cool if it was good acting.
Cinematics, =-{ Are they really necessary for 'good' gameplay?
EDIT: Removed the "weapons" part. I think it doesn't need to be discussed further
EDIT2 I won't put it back up because I don't need any discussion on that item.
Hopefully I can become inspired by some things that come out of this.
