Difference between mouse and keyboard commands

14 February 2012 - 07:13 PM

I've assigned a script to the mouse left button to change its sprite when it is pressed.
However, it seems I have no control over the image speed as it is executed.

I've tried the command on Ctrl instead, and then it just gets stuck.

All I really want is for the sprite to be changed for a short while, and not instantly as it is right now.

My question is, what is the difference between the mouse and keyboard?
How come the mouse moves as if you push and then release, without actually doing it?

Fighting stuff

13 February 2012 - 02:00 AM

I've made a random script for a global press on the Left mouse key,

sprite_index=choose(rightkick, leftkick, rightpunch, leftpunch)

and it works as expected, yet, it moves instantanously, like in the speed of light,
and I can't figure out how to slow it down.

should I use some form of image_speed =..... ?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thieving Online

25 March 2011 - 08:30 AM

Hello game maker forum!

This is a request for people who have good experience with coding, since I'm no real programmer myself, only working with arts in music, sounds, and animations mostly.

My vision is to create an online game based on thieves and anti-thieves, two fractions basically fighting against eachother but with a different approach than shooting and capturing the flag.
The idea is having an online feature that will have people rising in ranks, both to level up their individual character, aswell as keeping their fame on the scoring board, so it's kind of an interactive rpg casual game, where one can jump in and out at anytime, but really have to play it in order to advance.

The rules follows:

Thieves steal, pick-pocket, and burglarize, taking anything of value, sell it to a fence, get their cash, buy new equipment, get more points in their ranks, level up, and at the same time try to avoid the anti-thieves (sort of like guards).
The thieves can put up traps with various effects such as smoke, gas, spikes, e.t.c, throw projectiles such as flash-splinters (like a flash-grenade), smoke bombs, poison darts, and so on. Swords and daggers included.

The anti-thieves are all about catching the opposite "team", trying to localize and bring down as many of them as possible.
They can either take them to jail, or deplete their opponents health making them go back to their own hideouts.
The anti-thieves have other means than traps and projectiles, but none noted at the moment, their ranks is based on reposessing any stolen goods, send them to their barracks, and earn points in ranks, aswell as when they catch or kill their opponents.

As noted, there is no real "team" in either one of the two branches, that is totally up to the players in game, wether they work as a team, betray one another, or work solo, it all has its own benefit.
This is all ment to be a side-scroller, one that requires very high graphics from my part, or those who see themselves fit for the job.

It's a dark world, with a gritty environment, and it's night all the time during gameplay. It's also a platform concept where the players can jump, climb, and run around on rooftops all they want, so to the thieves it's about breaking-in and out of houses, and to the anti-thieves searching for their opposites.

I do have a demo, one that isn't based on any of the examples above but walking around, which is where you guys come in!
Any good programming would be appreciated, anyone who sees what I'm getting at here.

Backyard Demo
This is the link to the current demo, and as you can see it's very raw so far, only the graphics live up to the standard.

Note that it's a game thought to be very big, for atleast a 50 people on each side, so the city in itself will be pretty vast for all to enjoy.

Any questions can be asked here, and any interests can be mailed to my account.

Hope to hear from you!
Have a nice day.

Genreless Music Composer

It's bold, I know, to say that I do whatever pleases, but to be honest it's because I love to do whatever music there is,
whether it be chip-tune, ambient horror, shady tracks, bit-pop, techno mixture, classic, e.t.c.

What I want to say is that any work you offer I'd love to contribute what picks your taste, posing subsequent diversion to the both of us.

Two links for the interested:

Myspace, for movie/cutscene based composition, or just plain mp3 listening - Myspace

And Soundcloud, where all ambient tracks end up since Myspace can't provide the same amount of space (funny enough) - Soundcloud

In the Soundcloud website, there's mostly thief related ambience in the making, contributed to the Dark Mod

I enjoy to compose, and most preferably something I'd like to continue working with, and that's why this feels like a good place to start it all up.

Hope you enjoy the bits and pieces, let me know if you need anything!
Thank you, have a nice day! :)

PS: Of course, the one thing I really want is just my name in the credits, that is all I'm asking, unless you're thinking bigger projects, which would be awesome.
