In Topic: "Wires"

There are data structures with corresponding functions that allow you to find a path from one place to another while only moving across areas that have a wire object, but if you don't understand greep's code you wouldn't be able to figure that out. My advice would be to have the player maneuver themself through the wires. There would be less logic involved in coding it that way, and it might make the game funner.

I've uploaded a PDF version @ here

I'm sure it's an interesting read, but I keep getting distracted by the feeling that it's an essay written for an assignment, plagued with spelling mistakes and typos

It is an essay written for a school assignment :). Sorry about all the typos and spelling mistakes, I was to lazy to go over 30+ pages looking for typos and spelling mistakes. The PDF and Google Doc versions are almost exact replicas of the assignment that I turned in and they have less spelling mistakes and typos, but there still are a lot of them. I have a feeling that not that many people will be looking at my paper and that it wouldn't be worth my time to fix it up.

Page 2 : There is nothing but a header and footer on this page...
I did like the diagram under the heading Traditional Design , I don't see a reference anywhere so I assume you made it

On my screen page two is the start of the table of contents. Most of the pictures came from http://www.lostgarden.com/. I don't how referencing those diagrams slipped past me. If anyone wants to share this article elsewhere let me know and I'll definitely fix the references to the graphics, and I'll look into all the other problems, but most likely no one else but you guys will look at this article, so I don't feel that much of a need to fix things, except for those diagrams, I feel bad about not having included references on those.

I'd also recommend you begin with GameMaker's scripting language (GML). Don't use the "action icons" (so-called Drag and Drop).

But we are talking about people aged 6-9.

You can probably find the source code for a bunch of game out there too. I can give you the source code to any of my games. A lot of the games in the utilities section of YoYo Games are simple tutorials that have created the basic physics for a game, and then a person can modify the game however they want.

In Topic: What is going on with Instant Play?

03 February 2012 - 05:42 PM

I liked having instant play, even though the only thing it does is download the game onto the computer, it's nice being able to play a game by only having to click one button.
From the developers side it is more likely for a person to replay your game if it's downloaded, but It's more likely that they'll leave a comment about a game if they play it online.
Personally I think it's better to host the game your-self that way when you point people to a game Your helping out the rest of your site as well.
