In Topic: Is Gm A Pixel Art Platform?

A thing or two looks to be more than whoever drew that does, so yes. I am.

It depends on the person because it is a form of art. Some people will consider that good while others won`t. I will not say that the linked image makes good use of dithering, but it`s still way better than what 95% of the GMC community can do.

Is that supposed to be smooth? Why does it have dithering?

I you are talking about the edges, you may find that you can`t really smooth edges without an image filter. Dithering is an important part of pixel art as it gives more sense of reality to the sprite by giving the colors different shades.

People mostly don`t make the difference between pixel art and just pixels. Pixel art is a form of drawing images in which the details are created through individually coloring the pixels. Example:

What separates this from generic 8bit art is that the sprite has a lot of detail and nice shading.

The main problem with most GM users is that they either don`t spend time working on the game art or don`t have the slightest artistic sense.

You can try the platforming tutorial that comes with studio, it is really fast and optimized. It doesn`t come with a lot of features but if you can understand it, it is a great starting point.

Congratulations to all Jam participants, without you this competition would not exist anymore! Everyone tried their best and tested their capabilities because this is what this competition is about: driving imagination and and innovation forward. Making a good game in so little time is by no means an easy task and everyone should be proud of their end result.

If you think your game could have been better, you already improved yourself as a game designer since you can see it`s flaws. The placing doesn`t matter that much, it`s the spirit of the competition which improves our skills.
