In short I want to make my own little socket server program and I actually know how to make the basics of it in Java but I'm honestly clue less as to how I'm able to implement some sort of API to utilize my socket server in GM.
Any help on the subject would be great!
Thanks

Registration Key When Installing Game?

Anyone know of a installer that would check for the registration key online to see if it is valid while installing your game?
How To Test If Your Game Will Run On Another Os?
15 March 2009 - 10:19 AM
Was wondering if there was a way to test if your game (or any exe for that fact) will run on other operating systems (windows 95, 98, ME, XP, Vista, Mac, Linux/Unix)?
(In this case I'm wondering if my game made with all default GM7 commands (no outside DLL's) will run on other operating systems other than XP?)

Gml Or Python Or "other"?
08 March 2009 - 11:21 AM
I'm at a cross-roads here and I'm not sure whether to try and learn GML even more or start Python 3.0 (or maybe another language if some thinks another one would better suit my needs)
I'm going into game programming this fall for college, I'm looking to learn a language now and have it fairly "well" learned by time I go to college... looking for a language that meets the list below
1. Will not be "dead" by time I get out of college
2. I will be able to "easily" learn a harder language (like C++ or C#) from this one (I realized for example... going from QBASIC to C++ in my high school programming class was VERY annoying because QBasic was so "easy" and C++ required so much more code and very DIFFERENT type of code at that... so to me the transition was not smooth)
3. Is easy to pick up and learn and also "master" (other words if you stuff your nose in it for a week you will be able to start creating simple applications)
4. Does not require many lines of code to create an output
5. Can create both software (like maybe MS paint) and games (like pacman), other words a GUI friendly language
6. (this one isn't as "big" but still matters a little to me) The language does not change drastically too often... like I see python 3.0 isn't even backwards compatible with 2.X which I dislike BUT right now python wise it doesn't matter too much since I will be learning it fresh and 3.X should be around for a good while.
I'm looking for very non-biased answers if possible... regardless I like GML (I bought pro) but I'm really looking for serious advice with this topic... I would like to start learning something I can apply to all aspects of programming.
