Posts I've Made

Well, I finally played the demo, and I have come to the conclusion that you're not ready to sell your games.  The overall quality of the game was severely lacking.  The game's menu was unpolished.  The game's graphics (character, tiles, doors, ghosts) were no better.  The gameplay was nowhere near spectacular.  The overall game design was generic, which made for a fairly drab experience.  Usually, I wouldn't be so criticizing, but there's five dollars on the line.

Edit:  Oh well, my assumption was wrong.  Thanks for correcting me.  My earlier opinions regarding the game still stand.

In Topic: Would copying a game style be badly seen ?

would it be badly seen by other players ? Would they have a lower  opinion of it ?

That's a difficult question with no real answer.  Every player has their own opinions.  Some players might be repulsed by the fact it's a "re-skinned" Iji, but other players might simply appreciate a well-made game.  Maybe you should try opening this discussion up a bit.  Instead of asking people how they would feel about a re-skinned Iji, why don't you change the direction of this topic; which gameplay elements should be kept to stay true to the Iji formula, and which new gameplay elements could be added to differentiate the two?  Just a suggestion.

Alright... So it appears that you're wanting to sell your game...  You know, this might be a radical thought, but wouldn't it be best if you provided information (screenshots, gameplay details, etc.) about the game?  The attention spans of people, especially on this forum, are usually relatively short, and making them dig for this information might lose you some potential buyers. I have not played the demo yet, so I can't say anything more.

In Topic: Best Approach for a 2d RPG

Larson: I don't think that I need to give details on the story in order for you to help me decide which type of game would fit right for my game. But here is a little more detail to maybe help you.

Well, sorry for asking then. It's just that you were requesting help deciding which gameplay style to use, but you didn't really leave us much info on the game... But after what you recently told me, I think you should go with the classic 3/4 (RPG) gameplay style, because it sounds like the game involves a huge amount of non-linear exploration.

that screenshot shows just how bad the noobs on YYG are. A Balloon Popping on the frontpage with 3 plays? What noob uprated that?

You seem to have a personal agenda that goes WAY beyond the original intent of this clean-up effort.

If I were leading this, I'd take away your whistle.

Care to elaborate? I'm doing this because I'd like to give the good games a chance. I want the noob games to fall to the bottom and the good games to be on top. The good games deserve the front page, balloon popping games do not.

Ok, for all those that think this clean-up is stupid:
Imagine you worked months, even years, on your amazing game. You finally finish it, and upload it to YYG. Then, boom. Its on page 30, never to see the light of day. Over half the games in the places before yours are noob games, uprated by people who are way to generous, duplicate accounts of the creator, and other noobs that actually like it.

I speak from experience(though my game is still a WIP, its nearing completion).

That's why I never upload any of my games, because I'm afraid of facing that exact kind of pompous attitude...

I don't care whether you have spent a couple years or a couple days in development, because YYG encourages everyone to upload their games. I understand your concerns and I agree that your described scenario would be frustrating, but that's the way YYG works, they give everyone an equal opportunity to succeed. Besides, if I did happen to create an amazing game, why would its release be limited to YYG in the first place? There are plenty of other appropriate places where one can upload their game.

I'm sure you were once a noob yourself, so I hope you can pull your head out of your behind and remember what YoYo is all about.

Worry about the screenshots...
