Another excellent edition.

I liked the GMC Community Game interviews with the project leaders. It had some good insight into how the project is being organized and what the leader's general approach is. Nicely done and interesting.

The article about women in games (Less Scherzinger, More Scheherazade) was so-so. The brief history of Scheherazade was well written, but the rest of the article didn't break any new ground. It seems like this topic is required for any serious game magazine. And the author's opinion is always the politically correct one. :snitch:

Frankly, I don't think it's a serious problem. There are are plenty of normal women portrayed in games. Besides, most gamers are young boys and they eventually grow out of it when they finish adolescence (usually in their mid-30s).

Cheers, thanks for the continued feedback on each issue that we release. It is interesting when I read the feature about women in games I knew the sort of line it was going to take, however I knew it was a interesting feature that will spark debate. Also, I really like the name that he thought of.

I liked the interview with TeeGee. It's pretty cool, seeing how they had the artist do the GUI, 4 times, [and each time, it looked amazing], and still he was like 'nope, this isn't good enough'.

It must be a bit frustrating for the artist!

Yea it is a great feature, Tim managed to put it all together thanks to some great material that we were sent from TeeGee and everyone part of the team.

Actually, it was the artist that proposed many of those changes ;). And remember I had to re-code the GUI for each new graphic too. That's one huge advantage of indie games - you can tweak until everyone feels it's really good. It's not frustrating - it's satisfying.

Anyway, thanks for the feature, guys. I liked this issue and it's great to see the magazine going and progressing with each release.

Thanks again for the work put forward on the game, we hope that once it gets around to the stage of being ready for releasing a WIP that we can once again get in contact and try and put together a preview of it.

Keep your feedback coming and suggestions. As always, we are interested in any ideas for content for future issues and also for anyone who is interested to apply for a role in the GMTech helping out by submitting an article or review each month that can go in the issue and make it a good feature.

Great design along with fantastic content! Well done with Issue 16 :( The articles about game design is a real help for all game creators especially with me leading the GMCG (which I saw mentioned in the magazine). The reviews were excellent, well done Broxter! Perhaps adding a bit more Game Maker specific articles to do with Game Maker solely. Apart from that I look forward to the next issue.

Thanks, Grimm.

Great, thank you for the comments. Broxter did a great job on the reviews he did for the issue as did all the other reviewers. There are a few reason why we don't have much content that are mainly specific GM related are because of a few reasons; [1] There are several other websites/forums that regularly feature well documented tutorials and examples in GM, allowing members to download them and easily learn off them, [2] it is pretty annoying and hard to get the GML coloured in the editor, [3] we feel that the way in which articles are written allow members from all different areas to understand them and use them when creating their games, whether the person is also making games in Flash or whatever - they are still able to download GMTech and have a good grasp of features that will help them.

This is arguably the best GM magazine available. The choice of articles is thoughtful and relevant, and the writing is intelligent. After so much time reading incoherent babble from 13-year-old boys, this is refreshing.

The article by Mike Alfus was interesting, but I think he overstates the issue of "morality". He's right about the fun in being able to play as good guy or bad guy. But these are just game devices to enhance its replay value. Calling them moral choices is a bit dangerous. After all, the popular claim is that violent games do NOT lead to violent behavior -- because they're just games.

Phil's article about GM in schools was fun too. I liked learning about Simon Donkers' GM class for kids. Some of the games they made look pretty good, especially for first-time users with little/no programming experience. I think that's a tribute to Simon's teaching skill.

And the interview with thatgamescompany's members was very interesting.

I haven't read the game reviews yet. But I plan to.

Great, the first line made my day. It took some time to get all the content in, and we are glad that you (along with other members) are happy with the balance of the content. I have forwarded your comments about the 'Moral Choices' article on to Mike, if he replies with any comments I will send them through to you personally.

Thanks for your overview feedback, enjoy the reviews once you get around to them.

Please keep posting your feedback, can I also ask for your suggestions on features that you would like the team to write. We wish to attempt to try to cover as many different and interesting areas as possible, so please suggest,

Another great magazine, and it's not even June! ^^

Thanks for the feedback. The issue needed to have a month written on it, I couldn't put 'May' as it was the end of the month, so I decided to go for 'June' and release it in June (I got it out a couple of days earlier).

Not to piss anyone off, but I'm not very impressed with the content of this issue. HT3D? Old stuff. Data structures? Same old stuff.
As to the rest, I didn't find anything particularly interesting (to me).
However, you get an A+ on the graphics side (and another one for crashing reader 5 :))

That is interesting, the HT3D feature is under the GM Classics section (the game will have to be at least a few months old, HT3D is a prime example of classic GM game). As for the Data Structures, I don't remember ever covering the subject in the magazine and not many other magazines/websites have spoke about that subject - hardly 'same old stuff'.

Thanks for your feedback, it is always good to hear someone make some constructive criticism. Can I ask what topics you will find interesting and what specific features that we can write which will impress to you? This way we can note them down and attempt to try to cater towards readers with similar mindsets to you.

Thanks.

Great :P.
Can't wait to read it ^_^

edit:
Great Job, very professional :P

Great, thanks for getting the comments going.

I dont think you should criticize people for having a unique writing style.

I'm not criticizing their writing style, but I am trying to make the point that it would be beneficial to have someone skim through the magazine before publishing it looking for typos and other minor errors .

We do have someone who reads through and sends back corrections, from your post above you can see that those are just mistakes that were glanced over by accident and not blocks of poorly written text. Not many people read the issue from front to back, so imagine just having one person do that as well as compile a document of grammar/spelling mistakes. If you are interested in helping out with this role, then just send me an email or PM and we can discuss.

Thanks for your comments and downloads so far.
