#4681139 The Splendid GMC Jam 16 discussion topic

Posted by 2Dcube on 25 October 2014 - 08:06 AM

I posted my game in the games topic. (HTML5 version here)

This was a fun exercise, but I won't have time this weekend so I made something simple.

Best of luck to everyone, and I'll try to review a few games if I can find the time!

Manjuu

You control the big "manjuu" (a kind of dumpling) and have to make sure the small one never lands on the ground. Collect "onigiri" (the triangle shaped things) to get points.

#4663414 Passing JavaScript object / voice-to-text

Posted by 2Dcube on 28 September 2014 - 09:28 AM

Chrome has a feature to allow voice-to-text, as described here

I want to use voice commands in a game. Can I add this voice-to-text feature on the HTML page and send the content of the JavaScript object to Game Maker HTML5? I know I can send it to a server and then send it to GM but that seems cumbersome, as it's all client side anyway. I am not sure how I can have a webpage and GM HTML5 communicate directly without refreshing the page. Maybe I'm misunderstanding things. If anyone could enlighten me that would be great!

#4662832 The Fabled GMC Jam #15 Discussion Topic

Posted by 2Dcube on 27 September 2014 - 03:26 PM

Hey guys

My game is now available on iPhone & iPad, for free! Link

Here is a topic I made: topic

The game's a lot easier to control, and I adjusted the values for money so it's actually reasonable now! Also, you get a helium block at the start which you can use to help balancing your ship.

I haven't tested it well enough on Android yet but I'll post when/if I release it.

#4662814 [FREE] Must Go Up - build, fly, reach new heights

Posted by 2Dcube on 27 September 2014 - 03:00 PM

Must Go Up

This game was originally made for the GMC Jam #15 and won third place!
The jam version was quite difficult, so I made it more balanced and easier to control.

Description:

Build your spaceship, fly it, collect coins, buy new parts, and so forth!

By reaching new heights you will unlock new ship parts that can be used in various ways. It's all up to you!

The higher you get, the more difficult the enemies become so you need to be prepared!

Enjoy

#4661112 [FREE] Pengswing

Posted by 2Dcube on 25 September 2014 - 12:57 PM

Pengswing

Hey!

This is a new little game I made. I was trying to come up with a unique gameplay mechanic that is also very simple and easy to control. You just tap and the penguin character will attach itself to the next dot on the screen. It uses Box 2D rope physics.

It's a lot of fun, easy to play but hard to master. I'm planning on adding more obstacles in the next updates, such as moving spikeballs, lasers, etc. Any comments welcome.

Store description:

Tap to swing from point to point! This little penguin wants to catch stars and avoid dangerous obstacles.

You won’t be able to stop playing!

* Simple one-tap controls
* Crazy addictive!
* Easy to learn, hard to master
* Game Center

Get it now and beat everyone’s scores!

#4658640 Currently released GM games do not work on iOS 8

How are you making the IPA?

I sometimes get code sign errors. Setting the provisioning profile and certificate manually at the Build settings > Code Signing section could help. Also sometimes simply restarting Xcode makes it go away for me.

It's the current stable 1.3 release + iOS 8 fix

I spoke with Russell and there should be a new version of Game Maker soon. The current 1.4 does not work with Xcode 6.

Strange that YoYo hasn't tested these things earlier..

iPod Touch 5th generation

Here's how to install iOS8:

Go to the Apple dev portal and find the download for your specific device. Unzip the (large) file after downloading.

Connect your iDevice to iTunes and make a backup to be safe.

Next you have to option-click on the "Update" button. This is for Mac, for Windows it might be alt-click, I am not sure. You can then select the unzipped file and it will be installed onto your device.

Note: Some people reported problems when updating with iTunes 12 so to be safe you could try iTunes 11. It worked fine for me.

Also make sure your device is registered with Apple! I got my info from this article: http://www.redmondpi...nd-news-update/

The runner is fine. I downloaded a game from the store and tried a few that were on my device.

I can't make a working build with GMS 1.4... Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if it's just not working yet. If I can't update my games in time before iOS8 comes out I'll have to remove them from the store, since they won't be working anyway.

...unless you build them with the latest release (GMS 1.4 + Xcode 6), I have been told by YoYoGames twitter. Will test today.

I just installed the iOS 8 Gold Master onto my iPod Touch. Most of the Game Maker games I tested fail to launch, except 2 very old ones that have never been updated.

This means every game you've released up till now needs to be updated. The good news is you can now add videos to the app store so you can try that at least..

Only do it if you feel like it, to be honest I'm kinda busy for the next few months so I don't even know if I'll have much time to use it : (

The hand drawn character sounds cool by itself! Maybe you can do the They Need To Be Fed guy? Interesting fact: It was designed by Dadio!
