Welcome To Nginx! (Solved?)
29 May 2013 - 09:34 PM
I've tried:
- quick-scanning with avast! (nothing found)
- quick-scanning with Malwarebytes (nothing found; currently running a full scan)
- scanning with Spybot S&D (found some seemingly unrelated stuff; didn't fix the problem)
- restarting Chrome
- reinstalling Chrome
- reloading the page
- checking the hosts file in system32 (nothing out of the ordinary)
- checking processes and startup tasks (nothing too suspicious; disabled startup tasks I didn't recognize but it didn't help)
- clearing my cache
- clearing my browser history
- replacing "http" in the address with "https" (site doesn't support it)
Needless to say Google hasn't been very helpful.
Can anyone help me out here?

You are floating, moving aimlessly through a pitch-black void. It's only been a few seconds, but you are already growing impatient, perhaps even scared. This void makes you uneasy. Something seems wrong.
A voice reaches your ears, something indistinct, yet vaguely feminine. "I have brought you here for one reason," it says, "to end the reign of tyranny over this universe. Only when you restore balance, will you be sent home."
A light cuts through the darkness. You feel solid ground underneath your body. Slowly, you open your eyes, struggle to your feet, and take a look around...
~*~
Welcome to the wonderful world of Zeta! This is a sandbox fantasy RPG, in which you tell me what you do, and I tell you what happens. And that's pretty much it! This game is very story-based; there are no numerical mechanics to worry about. And here's the fun part: just about ANYTHING GOES! Want to follow the rails and save the universe from the bad guys? Go for it! Want to forget these losers and go join the bad guys? You got it! Maybe you're feeling devious and want to play both sides? Sure! Want to completely ignore the plot and just wander aimlessly or explore the universe's lore until something interesting happens? That works too! I wholeheartedly encourage going with whatever feels most natural for your character. It doesn't just make things more fun for you, but me as well. This universe has so many exotic locations to explore and so much lore to dive into. No matter what your playing style is, I'll make sure you have something to do.
How things are going to work:
- Main quests: Groups of many objectives corresponding to the different factions; completing these objectives will advance the story
- Sidequests: Have no real bearing on the plot most of the time but most of them yield various rewards
- Miscillaneous quests: Composed of one or two objectives, usually pretty brief, may or may not yield rewards
If you're having trouble finding things to do, pick a town and ask around. Even if the person you talk to doesn't need anything, they might be able to point you to someone who does.
Because most quests can only be done once, I encourage you to work in teams so that multiple players will get the chance to experience some of the more epic ones, as well as nab the rewards.
Another point of interest: if no one is interacting with an NPC, they'll stay put and act like nothing happened, so you can start a quest, go do other stuff, and pick up where you left off, assuming someone else hasn't cut in!
Tl;dr: Think Skyrim.
Want to join up?
Anyway, I'm going to leave signups open until Friday or so, and then pick and choose 5-7 characters from those entered. Not putting effort into your character (including using someone from a pre-existing video game/movie/whatever), or having caused trouble for FRPG people like me in the past will hurt your chances of getting in. I am not going to say why certain people didn't get in so please don't ask. I don't want to get into any petty arguments. My word is final!
Character creation is pretty standard, except for a couple of caveats. (1) No magic/magical powers to start with. (2) You can have as many weapons as you want, but you should only be able to fight competently with one. Natural weapons count. Yes, mastery over some martial art counts as a natural weapon. So, for example, if you have a feline character that can tear up opponents with his claws, that's his weapon. If he has claws but doesn't typically fight with them, electing to use a staff instead, that's okay too. Basically you should just have one main way to fight, and anything else should be more of a last resort thing that you're not all that good with. As for armor and/or natural defenses, I'm pretty flexible: as long as you don't have, like, some suit of armor made from magical material that's COMPLETELY IMPERVIOUS TO EVERYTHING, I think I'll be okay with it.
Throughout the game, you're going to learn all kinds of awesome magic from this universe, so don't worry about being underpowered. These rules are mainly in place to prevent balancing issues I've had in the past, but there also might be another reason...
Anyway, if you want to create a character, just fill out this form here. Being detailed will boost your chances of being picked to enter. Your character can be just about anything (within reason); make up your own species if you want, and I encourage you to be creative! (No amnesiacs please unless you can tell me their past yourself.) I reserve the right to make changes as I see fit, but I'll always ask you first.
Name:
Age:
Species/race: (tell me a little about it if you want, or just give me the name)
Appearance:
Background: (this is optional but highly encouraged)
Items: (no numerical limit, just be realistic with what you can carry)
Main weapon: (if applicable, and please, no loophole abuse by giving your weapon a magical power
Anything else you want me to know: (personality, hobbies, skills, physical ability, what have you)
General rules:
- say what your character says or does
- try to be fairly detailed in your responses; develop your character so we can both get to know them as the game progresses
- read posts made by players you're travelling with
- ask for clarification or reminders if needed (seriously, don't hesitate!)
- offer ways to make the game (or my writing!) better
- offer sidequest ideas (even if I don't use your idea exactly, I can always use the inspiration! You might also get a reward if I end up putting your idea in the game :3)
- LET ME KNOW IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE GONE FOR A WHILE, FOR ANY REASON! I really can't stress this enough! If I know you're going to be out of town or busy or whatever, I can adjust things accordingly, but if you up and vanish without warning it can really throw a wrench into things sometimes! I always make a point of prodding people who vanish on me, but if I don't get a response within a few days, I may be forced to let someone else take your spot. I really don't like doing that but it's not fair to people who didn't get in if I don't, so please please PLEASE tell me ahead of time when you're going to be gone.
DO NOT:
- say what other characters say or do (ESPECIALLY in the middle of combat)
- say what your surroundings are like
- say what happens to your character
- randomly give your character powers or items in the middle of the game without consulting me first
- purposefully attempt to screw with the game (yeah I know I said anything goes but this kind of kills the fun for everyone involved)
- NO INDISCRIMINATE PLAYER KILLING! Please don't attack other players unless you have a damn good reason! (Note that this can include the other player provoking you despite numerous warnings to cut that crap out. Or quest reasons. Basically just don't do it for no reason.)
Failing to respect the do-nots will result in me yelling at you on your first offense. After that, very bad things will start to happen to your character, up to and including being booted from the game.
How player death works:
HOWEVER! Your game will not end! I won't share exactly what happens, but I will share this: you'll get to keep playing. There will be consequences for dying, but I won't be that mean. So don't sweat it too much, but don't assume you can die however many times you want without issue!
I think that's about it. Let the signups begin, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Can My Laptop Handle Skyrim?

I wish I had something better for comparison, but all I can really tell you there is that it runs League of Legends just fine on the default settings. XP
Looming threat of my laptop overheating?

One, should I be worried, and two, anything I could be doing instead of just worrying about it? Keep in mind my experience with this sort of thing is very close to zero so if you could spell everything out for me that would be great. :3
What do you respect in a person?
