Foreign is sort of an ambiguous term. When I first think of foreign, since I live in California, my thoughts are of places like Mexico or Russia or, well, pretty much any place that isn't California. Then I realize that, for any given "foreign" place I could have chosen that's still on Earth, there was possibly going to be someone else participating in the jam who called that place home.
Thus, I decided to go with more of an abstract notion of foreign. The characters in my game live in a world where color, especially full color, is a foreign notion.
Is it kind of hokey? Yeah. Is it totally shoed in? Kind of. Did Orange do a much better job of depicting foreign than I did? Absolutely.
I feel a bit like the villain here for being the one to point this out... but it was bound to come up sooner or later. I personally don't think your game merits the title of "highest rated theme-based game"... but that is just me, and apparently even you agree with me. But some others may think that your connection is good enough... ultimately, it's up to the community and Nocturne to make the final decision.
Great work on the game, anyway, Lune! The main purposes of the jam are just to make games, to experiment, to get the motivation to dev... and you have done just that. I simply hope that in the future people hold the concept of following the theme in higher regard... as that's one of the many things that makes each competition unique.

It will be interesting to see who gets to choose the theme for the next jam.
Why wouldn't that be the winner (Lune)? Or wasn't his game considered a "theme based" game?
How is it "theme based"? o_O
(not trying to sound sassy, I just notice that a lot of games this time around chose to ignore the theme)
