Day one
00:01 into the jam:
Began thinking of ideas. I have people over, so I have to go do some
things with them for a while after this post. I always try to do as
little thinking before the jam starts as possible, even if I've guessed
the theme already. This jam I'm going to try to do something innovative
and original.
00:28 into the jam:
Just finished. Now thinking of ideas again.
00:42 into the jam:
I've come up with an idea... It'd be a tiny RTS game or something.
Not entirely happy with it, so I'll keep thinking.

One hour in, I've got pretty much nothing. Still trying to think of
ideas. :/
01:08 into the jam:
I think I'll make a 2d platform RTS game. I'm really going to try to
take the focus away from combat, and put it more on resource management
and relationships with other nations. Working title: Towering cities

Spent ages spriting a guy, then ditched it due to looking bad and taking
too long to animate.
Now I'm considering switching to a sort of scribbley Orange08 style.

This new graphical style is proving way easier to work with.
I'm getting sort of tired, but I want to at least program building in
before I hit the hay.

Finally getting to program some things.
Pathfinding will be hard :/

Oh well. I'll do my best, and if it turns out anything like I'm hoping,

I've been trying to get this gosh-darned path finding to work for over
an hour now.
I think it's time I sign of for the night.

Day two
11:16 into the jam:
I woke up pretty early (It's about quarter after 7 in my timezone).
I just caught up on everyone's devlogs, and now I'm going to get back to
work trying to get the pathfinding to work. Once I get that done, I
think I'll add basic building functions.
11:41 into the jam:
Didn't get much done in the way of pathfinding so far, but I made a logo
and a title! You can see it at the top of this post.
12:17 into the jam:
Finally got pathfinding to work :D
After I iron out the bugs, I'll do building.
12:30 into the jam:
Programming the building menu thingy
13:09 into the jam:
Still programming the building system. Right now, you can place building
frames, but the worker won't go over and finish them yet.
I'm going to go eat now, I'm famished.
13:15 into the jam:
I just tried to use my orange as a mouse.
It was slightly reminiscent of the banana incident of jam#5
13:52 into the jam:
I'm almost done with the building system now. I just have to iron out a
few bugs, then I can start working on different buildings and
their functionality.
14:16 into the jam:
These last few bugs with the building syste are giving me a lot
moregriefthan I expected...
15:05 into the jam:
After struggling for an hour to fix this bug, I finally found a
workaround!
Time to actually do stuff! :D
15:27 into the jam:
Fixed a couple of small graphical bugs, add the armory (Which does
nothing as of right now).
I'm taking a small break now to rest my eyes, solidify some ideas, and
generally take a break.
After this, I'm planning to maybe add in some deep infrastructural
things like happiness, population, and hunger.
17:32 into the jam:
I took an hours break, then spent an hour doing chickeny things.
Time to get back to work :D
18:20 into the jam:
Just spent a bunch of time copying a list of the top 20 US surnames into
a script.
The game now chooses a random name for each citizen. (currently about
2,000 total combos)

I'm working on making it so can train units to be warriors now.
19:57 into the jam:
Programmed in training, so you can train people to be warriors and
workers.
Their occupation issignifiedby their hat, and their nation by the symbol
on their shirt.

I'm now getting off for a short break.
20:55 into the jam:
Getting back to work now. I also brought some food. I like food.
21:57 into the jam:
I've been doing some odd jobs. I fixed one or two bugs,sprited some more
buildings and interface things.
I think I might program money and hunger now.

Nope, I lied. Instead, Programmed in all the buildings I sprited.
You can build them, but they don't do anything yet. (Much like the other
buildings)

I sprited a hat tosignifythat a unit is an archer.
It turned out well, as you can see.

Yes, that was sarcasm, thanks for noticing. I'm currently re-positioning
that...

Currently doing some more interface stuff, including the scrolling view,
and larger room..
I still haven't programmed hunger or money, I might or might not do that
next.
24:27 into the jam:
A forum bug griefed my devlog. I fixed it best I could, but there could
be some strung together words, random HTML snippets, and loss of
formatting.
I lied about programming money again, by the way.

Time for a supper break!
Making the buttons not jiggle around when you move the view is a pain.

The jiggly buttons seem to have fixed themselves...
Now I'm really going to program money.

I think I might take an early night, or at least a break. I'm not getting much done right now.

Day three
36:32 into the jam:
I forgot to set an alarm last night. Luckily I woke up only a half-an-hour later than I would have otherwise.
I started having a sore throat last night, and when I woke up this morning, it's a lot worse. It's quite painful toswallow.
I don't know if it's allergies or a sickness. I don't think it really matters. I just have to hang in there and keep working.
I think it's time to program Citizens (How you get them) and Taxes (How you get money)
37:51 into the jam:
Going quite slowly. I have a coughdrop now, which is helping.
I've encountered a major bug with the pathfinding system I used. I might have to change large sections of it, which will take ages.
I'm hoping to fix that, then maybe program the taxation system.
39:00 into the jam:
Just put in the Easter eggs of the jam 1st 2nd and 3rd placers from jams 8 and 9.
(I had to do 8 because I forgot about them in jam 9 '~`)
You know what's easier than drawing tiny detailed sprites for which color is almost necessarily?
Pasting shrunken badly-cropped photos of people's heads onto an already drawn body sprite! :D
(I apologize for being so lazy about it...)

Did some stuff with money and bugfixing... Everything seems to be going really slowly...
I'm going to do taxes now, I think.
My current priority list is:
-Taxes & money
-Combat
-Diplomacy
I think I can get all these done today, but if something unexpected comes up, I can'tguaranteeit.
41:07 into the jam:
Not getting much done at all. I really can't tell weather I'll get this done before the deadline or not.
I'm going to get lunch now, and ponder what features I'll have to cut if I have to cut features.
42:17 into the jam:
Got taxes & income, happiness, and hunger done. I'm feeling a bit more confidant now.
I'm going to take a quick break.
42:49 into the jam:
I'm getting back to work now.
I should probably program combat, after I balance the taxation/hunger/happiness systems.
44:19 into the jam:
Finished balancing. Did a bunch of groundwork for the combat system, which I'm currently trying to get to work.
I still need to figure out exactly what diplomats are going to do...
45:55 into the jam:
Took a 45 minute break, I got the combat system to work.
Now I'mgoingto ponder on the functionality of diplomats, besides demanding/trading resources, creating alliances, and declaring war.
(Do they really need any more functionality?)
49:06 into the jam:
Lost a few hours of devlog time there didn't I?
Well, I honestly haven't done much. Just fixing random bugs and annoyances, and flustering about how hard AI will be to make.

Progress has slowed to an absolute crawl.
I'm trying to get archers to work currently.

Ugh. Quittin' time.
I'll do the AI tomorrow I guess...
Day four
60:11 into the jam:
Starting work again. I'm doing a few bug fixes and things I forgot yesterday, then I'll start on AI.
61:01 into the jam
I've started on the AI.
I'm making a bunch of small scripts that do small things, then I'll unify them in one large script...
I hope I can do it on time.
63:31 into the jam
I honestly have no idea weather these scripts will be done it two hours, or in ten.
All I can do is keep working.
64:35 into the jam:
Still working on AI.
I've written scripts that will build every building, and train ever unit.
Now I just need to write one biiig script to tie them all together.
66:06 into the jam:
Actually all I've been trying to do is fix this one lousy bug. Given up now, the bug can stay.
Now I'm going to take a quick break to write a flowchart type thing for the major ai script.
