there have been alot of valid points here...i guess ill put in my 2 cents

1) i realy...wouldnt like a n00b cage match, or anything else like that. who would want to play games that...well, arent very good (nice way of putting it).

Oh the suspense... which should I choose...
A rip off of the 1942 example changing all the airplanes Halo space ships and calling it Halo: Enigma OR a buggy maze game with no real level design..

2) to get into a cage match, obvisouly the games have to made well. theres a goal for some n00bs, get a game into the cage match. it might keep them going or something. (not all but u know what i mean)

3) the same goes for the junior one. i honestly think the cage match should be left as it is, for the pricialged able to make well enough games. (trust me, ive been using gm for years, id never get in...so im not saying that for personal cocky reasons)

ok i lied that was 3 cents.

Although Dex, for instance, "runs" the Creations cage match, the moderators first discussed whether it would be good to bring back the matches on this board. The same was the case for starting the WIP cage match: the mods first discussed if it would be a good idea.

Since only moderators can start polls and pin topics, it is obvious that both current types of matches are backed by the moderating team. If another kind of cage match was simply created on the spot by a member without the moderators first discussing it and accepting it, one of three things would most likely occur:
  • The link would be moved to the Competitions List which would mean the contest would need to be run on another website.
  • It would not be converted to a poll, meaning a lot of extra posting and confusion on exactly who won (possibly) since a moderator may not close the topic right after the competition right after it is over and people would be arguing which posts are not valid since they occurred after the deadline date/time.
  • It would be converted to a poll but not pinned, meaning it could easily fall off of the page with people "voting" but not posting to the topic.
You also have to remember and consider that someone has to keep choosing the next opponent to go against the winner (or always pick two new games each time), and you cannot simply have any person do it because you would then have 10 people picking two games each and no one will know which is the "real" match. If the chosen person for picking new entries (or the loser of the last match picking the next opponent for the winner as is the case with the Creations cage match) decides to not come around the forums for a while, the matches will be stalled, and again, no one will know which is the "true" match with others springing up. It could become a massive splash of matches trying to start all over the board (which is not a good thing).

No, you will expect the quality of beginner's games to improve as well. Not many would want to lower the quality of the game to get it into a Beginner's Cage Match, as opposed to shooting for the big Cage Match.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

yeah but the ones that are capable of doing cagematch quality games would settle for junior cagematch and the beginners wouldn't stand a chance agaisnt the ones that are capable of doing high quality games and the standars for the high quality gamematches would have to go down and the standars would keep going down until all the games would end up beign low quality.

Well, now that I know what a cage match is, I can comment on this brilliant idea.
Hahahahah. What a silly notion!

Here's how we advertise it:
*****************
Attention Noobies! Announcing a competition for GM makers who are too bad to be in real competition!

We're going to name you and then parade you around just like the "Special Olympics".

You can pretend to be a real gamemaker with a cage match of your very own!

Secretly, others will ridicule you. But you'll be to dumb to know better.
*****************

The audience will say, "Oh isn't that cute? His game is crap but he's trying sooo hard. Just like the big boys!"

Sound silly? It is. Any Noobies / Newbies listening? Run away VERY fast.

A solution would be that we choose games that are just below Cage Match level and use them. So the maker will try to make a good game so he may get into at least the "junior" cage match.
