Hi! I'm from Mexico and I wanna register my games, but the people in "INDAUTOR" (the place in my country where you go to register all kind of creations like literature, painting, comic, multimedia, etc) are asking me for the source code of my game. I've searched in the GM program for an option to view the source code of a game, but it seems not to be there. Is there any way or option so I can see the source code of my games?

Thanks

Give them a copy of the .gmd/.gm6 file, and inform them they need a copy of GameMaker to view it with.

You don't need to pay, or in fact do anything, to have copyright. You get it automatically whenever you create anything.

Those copyright offices are just for backup so you can prove it was you very easily if you go to court over copyright issues. But unless you've got some retail distribution offer, it's just not worth it.

But that's right, the source code is the GM6 file, you don't need to tell them they need Game Maker, source code isn't supposed to run by itself.

There's a whole pinned topic on this I suggest you look through.

a. They'll need GameMaker to view the source, even if they don't plan on running it.
b. Copyright laws vary from country to country - not all countries have automatic copyright. The U.S. does, but I don't know about Mexico.

He says he wants to register them.

I am aware, but there is absolutely no need for him to register them like this... unless he's actually thinking of selling the game. But he may not know this, therefore I said it.

What's even funnier is the list of countries where you have to register. Countries like Eritrea, Somalia, Turkmenistan, etc. Many of these countries don't even have a functioning court system anyway -- let alone a market for software. So who gives a crap?

(See list here. If there's a "--", then that country hasn't agreed to TRIPS/WCT, which grants copyright protection automatically.)
