i want go get a website to host all my gm games, but im a little confused. if u program a website in html or java can u have link it to the internet so people can get to it and if so can u then upload games to the html or java site or do u need to get like geosites or something to that? and if so what ones support java(just wondering)?

What your gonna need is a host to host your files. Some free host:

You cannot have people access your computer's files without putting them on the net. Basicly no: C:/File.FXT
you'd have to host it somewhere and get somthing like:
http://www.freewebs.com/Name/File.FXT - DONOT CLICK HERE

Also I am not quiet clear on what your asking about Java. There are two things you must know: Java and JavaScript are two different things. Java is for computer based programs, while JavaScript is for web-based programs. Also, you might only want to write website in HTML only. Maybe a few JavaScripts things, but I personaly feel it is annoying. Also, if you have a copy of Microsoft Office FrontPage, design you site, then save it as a .htm or .html and then uploaded it to the net. If you have FTP acess to your website you can upload dirrectly from FrontPage, but for most free web hosting, its doubtful you have FTP acess.

Java is usually done client-side, so it shouldn't matter.

If your looking for a webhost I'd recommend t35, That is if you know HTML.

If he doesn't even know much about web hosting, you really shouldn't be telling him to become his own host. It's just an excuse to get hacked.

Camzmac said he was going to run a host of his PC, but I told him not to. He didn't listen, and a few days later, he got hacked.

If you don't know what you are doing, you will get hacked.

Now for the recommendation: Use GeoCities.com - They suck, but they are good for those just starting out, and provide a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get... like Microsoft Word but for HTML, not doc) editor if you don't know HTML.

edit: Search on WikiPedia for "web hosting" and I'm sure you'll find some useful info.

Also, if you are talking about JSP, I believe 0catch.com offers JSP support. If it's just a client-side ap*let, it makes no difference unless uploading java is against your host's TOS.

Creating web pages with a program that isn't designed to create them is a recipie for disastor.

That wasn't from running a websever, that was from a malicious program that opened my computer to hackers. Some of my family members download and run a lot of programs, so it was bound to happen.

If you can afford it, and you're willing to learn about security, self-hosting isn't a bad idea.

You just got to remember to keep on top of the patches and make sure you've got a good secure setup.
