I am evil for changing the title!! wahaha

I'm not entirely sure on all the details yet, but here is what just came to me.

I was thinking, that here (at the game maker forums) we could host a contest finding the best Game Maker Games of 2004. Then the best (like 100 or something) would be chosen and we could put it on CD and actually distribute them in stores, not only would this be a great way to get instant publicity for your game, but a great way to get publicity for game maker itself. We'd be working together to do this. (Creation*Infinte could mostly put it together though)

I'm not sure about all the details yet becuase I just barely thought the idea up, but first, I'd like you guy's input, what do you think about it? (answer the questions below)

1. What do you think of the Game Maker Collection 2004 (GMC4) by Creation*Infinte?

2. Are there any details you'd like to clear up?

3. Would you be willing to help with the contest and production of GMC4?

4. If you were to enter, would you be willing to pay a small contest fee? (5 - 10$) to help with the production costs.

5. Would you like to enter? Why?

6. If you would like to enter or help with this, please send e-mail to me ( meta1415fusion@hotmail.com )

Thank you!!

1. I think it's a good idea, but It would be hard to distribute it to offline stores (Like walmart or whatever). You'd have to sell it online.
2. would the gamemaker's game have whatever they wanted on it? (ugh...I mean what are the requirements/restrictions? Size? Rating? ect?)
3. maybe, but I don't finish too many games even though I have a good knowledge of gml (I'm working on one huge rpg/platform that is looking comercial quality with a very original story line and one side project platformer.)
4. sounds reasonable, but only if thre are a lot of entraits (meaning its' really going to happen) Bad thing is a doubt I could play online ^_^
5. yes, because I dunno, sound fun? But once again, I may only have my platformer side project done by dec 31... and it's going to be so-so).
6. :P

Sounds like a good idea, but could it really happen?

Good idea, Bad concept. Im only going to pay if i win. and if i win i'll pay $25 to help with production. and when choosing winners you have to make sure you have diffrent Genres. And do you have to be registered? Because i would like to show my dad that i CAN make some money off of gamemaker. hmmm i will have to meditate on this. **folds legs and meditate's**

1. I love the idea, but is it possible to do this?

2. Will it be like one type of game that can register or can it be any type?

3. maybe...

4. Im kinda broke :-P Also I live in Norway and I hardly doubt norwigian money will be useful. But if I manage to finish my game before 31st december (I would have to work my ass off), and it turns out nice, I would see what I can give. (If i save up to that time  )

5. I would love to enter !!! :-D Its just the price and time im worried about :)

~KJ~

6. If you would like to enter or help with this, please send e-mail to me ( meta1415fusion@hotmail.com )

.... I don't see how you think this would address the issue in the previous thread. If anything, it would make it worse. If no one yet has had the funding to *really really* polish a single game to perfection, how are you going to polish 100 of them? You're not. You're just going to put out another shovelware CD, which will make GM games continue to look like cheap crud that can only be sold as shovelware. :)

Also, this idea has been suggested 1000+ times and never works out for a variety of reasons. Way too hard to organise, person in charge loses interest, not enough good games, not enough *reliable* good games where there are no copyright issues....

There doesn't need to be a Great New Idea to get a GM game into stores. GM games are already in circulation.

Okay, I'm still verifying the plan with my partner to see what he thinks, but the game is going to be Game maker Collection 2005 All entries are due September 10th 2005 and the game will be distributed by December (holidays) which should boost sales. I'm still waiting for my partner to agree though so we can work out the details.

I'll try and get the details by Monday!!

I totally agree with you, but there is no reason that I can't give it a new approach, eh? I'll work out the copyrights and everything like that, (when my partner appoves.)

Yeah, you may need to have a "pack" that contains the games (like multible cds). Or better yet, have different "editions" (game maker collection 2005: platformers) Just a suggetion ;). Maybe have 10-50 good games on each.

This would be a great idea except for three things, You'd need some good money to make the cds(need nice covers) , you need to make sure nothing is copy writed, and you need a lot of quality games.

It's all very well getting a load of games and putting them onto a CD, but where most people fail is that you've got no one to sell them to!

1.its a good idea
2.no
3.maybe
4.no,because my game (if it won,and was put on the cd) would be sold,so you would already get money from the sales,i wont pay you to get money off my game
5.maybe,i would if you wouldnt require everyone to pay a fee

so this pretty much means that:
you charge us money to enter contest
you find the top 100 games
you sell them at Wal Mart (or whatever store)
we never get anything except publicity in return?
you get all the money when all you did was posted a contest in the gmc?

and what about the people who dont make the top 100? they get absolutely nothing, and it would be a waste of time for them

ah but alas, money is not everything. There are much greater gifts and goals in life. Think of it as doing a favor for the good people. Tis' called: selflessness.

All i have to say....
BAD IDEA!
Most of GameMaker games have sound from other games.
Its a GOOD IDEA, if the games had original resources.

The games need to be 100% Original. If there not then its illegal. Everything would have to be custom made : characters , music , sound effects , graphics. And also not many games contain originality. The game im making now will be original but want be complete till 2005.

But how do WE get profit?
Who are you going to sell it to?
What will the chances be that somebody will let you sell their game when they're also selling it?

Sorry, I know I said I'd update it tommorow.. but my computer was kind of dumb... so here I am... A week later....

So we've finally decided on all (well almost all) the details of this little thing

Game Maker Collection 2005 rules and Information

The Collection will be Game Maker Collection 2005, here is the information:

Entering
- All entries must be sent to either meta1415fusion@hotmail.com or mrleviathan@hotmail.com
- All entries are due by September 10th, 2005 and may not be turned in earlier then August 5th 2005.
- The Game may have been created or started any time in 2005 or before that.
- Entries must have been created with Game Maker.
- Entries must be E material (Everyone, ESRB) We will not accept M, Ao, and might not even accept T.
- PLEASE, fully test and debug your game before sending it to us.
- Each entry must include the following:
+ Title of Game
+ Developer Name
+ Developer Information (address, e-mail, phone, etc.)
+ Game information (1/2 page, 10 pt. font or 1 page double spaced in rtf
+ Devloper Bio (Who they are, etc. Same limit of space as Game Info)
+ Developer Splash screen (intro screen at the begining)
+ The game in stand-alone format
+ The game in editable format
- In order to have your game put into the collection, you must first sign a contract, and you cannot enter till you have (We are currently working on it)
- It would really help if people who are planning on entering, would send us their information before August 5th, so we can get an estimate of what we're dealing with.
- there will be a fee of about 2$ - 10$ (we haven't decided yet) but it won't be due till half way through the judging.

Judging
- JUDGING BEGINS SEPTEMBER 10TH
- Creation*Infinite will be judging all the entries.
- We are judging on the following
+ Content (language, violence, etc.)
+ Game play (easiness and quality)
+ Grammar (Spelling, etc.)
+ Graphic Content (Quality and extent of graphic)
+ Sound Content (Music, etc.)
+ Story
+ Audience
- After we have judged all the entries, we are going to do an approximation of placement. We may be able to get all the entries in, but it depends on how many enter and how big the entries are.
- After judging is done, the chosen developers will recieve an information sheet of changes that need to be made. These are not going to be evil extensive requirements, mostly fixing up graphics, sound, and some minor bugs. It is asked that you apply these changes to your game.

Assembling the collection
- ASSEMBLY BEGINS OCTOBER 5TH
- Before we start assembling the collection, we first will send all the entries into ESRB so the game can recieve a rating (we are going to look into this more later)
- Finally, we are going to start assembling the game(s) now dependant upon how many entries we have, their might be many edition of the game, ex: blue, red. These will be how the games will be grouped together.
- Each edition will contain the following:
- CD w/labels
- Cover booklet
- Box
- Box cover
- CD case
- Other Booklet
- Misc Advertisements
- The cover of each edition will be designed by Creation*Infinite and so will everything else in the edition.
- The booklet will contain the information you sent into us, Developer Bio, Game info, etc. Depending on the room, you can do more.

Distribution of the Collection(s)
- We are going to be trying to get as many stores (Target, Wal mart, etc. ) to distribute the game as we can.
- Also, we'll need some minor distributors from the game maker site, who have their own website, etc.
+ If you want to be a minor distributor please contact meta1415fusion@hotmail.com or mrleviathan@hotmail.com for more information
- The Collection (CD, Packaging, etc. will be assembled at Creation*Infinite and delivered to the various distributors.

Advertising for the Collection
-Obviously we are going to need advertisement for the collection, we have various ideas, but we are still working on them, if you have ideas to help, please send them to meta1415fusion@hotmail.com or mrleviathan@hotmail.com Please remember, we have a very tight budget as this is our first project.

Profits
- This is a really stinky subject as for the fact that, indivisual profits are going to be low most likely. But we have some solutions:
+ Multiple prototypes (blue, red, yellow edition, etc.) this will provide for more profit ability for indivisual developers.
+ If we get good advertising, we can sell it for more.

LAST NOTES
- In order for this to work, we need lots of developers, so ADVERTISE to game maker users, all users are welcome!
- For more info, contact us: meta1415fusion@hotmail.com or mrleviathan@hotmail.com
- This last note is for Mark Overmars if he sees it: We will be advertising Game Maker in the collection for free, so if he wants to advertise for the collection (to developers) we'd appreciate it.

SPECIAL THANKS TO: Mark Overmars, and all the people who made Game Maker and this site possible.

BTW - We are currently updating our website, possibly even moving it... So if it looks like crap, don't worry.

Thank You!!!
