Recently spam accounts have been appearing posting links to live stream. I don't know to what, (I doubt it's what's advertised.) They also have been becoming more frequent over the past month. Am I the only one noticing this? And is there a solution to this?

The solution is better anti-bot measures when signing up, and more moderation. But since yoyogames are supposedly switching to a new forum platform soon, I suspect they are just prioritizing getting that up and running rather than spending time on this as it won't matter long-term

The spam"bots" that sign up here are using accounts created by humans and then passed off to bots.

The site actually does have anti bot measures, but since the accounts are man(or woman) made, they aren't helping.

How about we just outright ban all new people? We should also ban old people to avoid discrimination. Ban everyone. Shut the site down. Liquidate Yoyogames. Remove all existence it ever existed. Burn down the building. Detonate Scotland!

The little gadget that you have to click to prove you're human, they could add something like that to unlock the "add reply" button.

Or to "create a new post".

It's simple, doesn't take much time, and effective against bots.

Just imagine when the forums get archived and a spam bot posts right before it happens...

I think old mods and admins would be able to edit the archived forum.

It's effective against pure bots. We are dealing with human/bot hybrids here, though (as Lukan explained above).

It wouldn't take long for spam companies to get up to date. They already have humans enter the distorted text captcha upon registrations. Letting humans click the button would take a couple of changes to the spammers' interface and the underlying software, then the additional amount of work required to successfully spam the GMC would merely require a few seconds of additional time investment for every further spam post.

With that said, YoYo Games have stated many times that they are not planning to change anything about the current GMC's forum software, so discussing this any further before the forum upgrade is wasted time.

I just want to sneak in a last word and say: There is a requirement to complete a captcha when registering. It clearly doesn't work, and this is for the above reasons (they are human).
