I'm currently thinking about putting up my game for steam greenlight.

In your opinion, what are the absolute essentials in term of polish and features expected from a steam greenlight game ?
Is anything blatantly missing from this game ? http://gamejolt.com/...inal-core/40277

Thank you for your time and opinion !

Final Core is being remade, come check the new topic ! http://gmc.yoyogames...opic=683878&hl=

Final Core is an RTS/TDS in which you can design your ships using a selection of over 130 parts.
Build the ultimate battleship and challenge other players' designs!

A bear minimum? Make whatever you are using to advertise look fun. The first thing the player should see is the most appealing part of the game. Remember, Greenlight is advertising and PR, marketing at its core. You should spread the word, make your game look fun (and it does, it looks pretty cool even if the artstyle is minimalistic).

What features you need can't be answered, it simply boils down to what the game needs and what the player expects.

I remember the playing final core ages ago, amd really enjoying it, even though it wasnt very well polished.
If this is as good as the first, from the screenshots, i think the game is presentable (then it ccomes to how much content you add).

But as magnus said, it comes down to how many eople already know about it, start a blog, get a following, and then only put it up on steam.

There's no real answer to this. Every game has different standard.

The easiest way to go about it is by asking yourself if you are personally satisfied with the game or what you're showing. Is the game finished? If not, is it an accurate representation of what the final product will be like? Do you think it has reached its maximum potential?

So i played the game, and here is my verdict:

it feels like a web game: there just inst that much depth to it. sure, there are many game modes and all, but the fact remains that each game has very little going on.

its essentially an upgrade game.

Dont get me wrong, its fun, but IDK if its fit for steam.

not to mention the large number of bugs, and bad gameplay decisions:

for example, switching between strafe and normal movement is not that intuitive, (right, then left click) especially in the middle of combat.

If you can make the combat a little more solid, by making the game feel less empty, then maybe it could stand a chance (and by less empty, i dont mean to fill it with more enemies, but add more than just enemies)

haha @ Mr. Magnus 'bear minimum' how many Bears does a game need to be a hit? I personally think that putting the game on Steam Concepts for a few weeks before Greenlight is a good route - and will help get some early fans before the actual campaign starts.

In regards to this, I'm not really sure what I could add to be honest. Most additionnal gameplay mechanics are already added through the portal mechanic. Also, what bugs are you referring to please ? I'm trying to fix as many as possible if I am to plan a greenlight attempt.

i found one lare bug: which is when right clicking, i get a bunch of random graphics (looks like a texture page and some surfaces) as well as a bunch of extra pie-menus.

another bug is the boss music keeps playing after you defeat it.

and, it doesnt look like the large core beam does any damage at all!

one thing you could also change is to re-arange the compents into weapons, energy, etc. having them as offensive, distrubtive and deffensive makes it hard to navigate (yes i know, theres a little tick-box menu).

as to things you could add to make the gameplay more exciting: powerups, health ups, spawners (that you have to destroy), maybe destructible obstacles too,1

Just make sure the game you're pushing for Greenlight looks appealing and has enough depth that people can play for more than 5 minutes.

Who said there had to be quality.

But to be serious, you need to make people hyped for the game. If I were you I'd inspect the trailers of games such as No Man's Sky, Space Engineers, Undertale, and other successful games.

The guys behind Air Control are still releasing games of the same level of quality, so I don't think you need to fret too much. :P

Well, that game for all its weirdness does have quality. Remember: Quality is not equated with seriousness. You can have a game built on the worlds most idiotic concept and still be of high quality. The assets it uses are consistent, look fairly nice, the game looks entertaining, and the concept is so off that it appeals to the immature side of us. It's no Witcher, but it still is polished.

The game certainly have some production values but still, he's having 4 different 3D models with basic animations, no collisions and he can't align them with the freaking floor....

Anyhow, nobody should mind the "quality bar" of Stream Greenlight. The bar is immeasurably low.

For example, would Harvest Moon style graphics that have no animations fit with a old GTA game? Graphics, sound and gameplay need to compliment eachother, otherwise you have a mess. That's what "looks appealing" means.
