If you don't already know, the GMC will be frozen, and a new one will arise.

As you can see on my profile, I have set up a simple way you can have a link to your new profile (not yet created) on your profile page before this forum is frozen.

Make a simple html file with the code:

<meta charset="UTF-8" />
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="2;url=http://newgmc.com/newprofile">
<!-- the 2 in the [content"2;] part is how many second you want to wait until it goes to the url. -->

in the <head> section.

Then upload it to dropbox and get the shareable link.

It should look something like this:

https://www.dropbox....n/Redirect.html(fake url) (Dont forget to take of random question markey suffix stuff)

the replace the "www.dropbox.com" with "dl.dropboxusercontent.com" and your html file will load like a normal page, redirecting you to a fake url, because your new GMC profile isnt even made yet. Later you can edit the html and reupload it to dropbox with your proper profile link.

Sample.html here:

<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html lang="en-US">
<head>
<style type="text/css">
	img {
   padding:7px solid #365620;
   border:1px solid #71A034;}
  body {
    color: #EEE;
    background-color: #3A3A3A }
  </style>
	<meta charset="UTF-8" />
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="2;url=http://www.example.com">

<script type="text/javascript">
         window.location.href = "http://example.com"
         </script>
	<title>Badass Redirect Page</title>
</head>
<body>
<small>After 2 seconds, you will be redirected. If for some reason this didn't work, go here: <a href=www.example.com>LINKSS</a></small>
</body>
</html>
<!-- note that the timing only works if you remove the javascript part -->

I've already got this set up to an extent--just so my page won't be 100% archaic several years from now.

That's cool. Thanks for the idea and the code samples, I've set up one for my profile too! :)

Here's another more flexible method if you want to put a link to topic you want to transfer onto the new site as well

Profile
Google
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/zr7itmsxh7dxycr/redirect.html#profile
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/zr7itmsxh7dxycr/redirect.html#google
<html>
<head>
    <title>Redirecting</title>
</head>
<body>
Redirecting to:
<script>

var hashValue = location.hash;
hashValue = hashValue.replace(/^#/, '');
//default
var url = "http://www.themojocollective.com";
//profile
if(hashValue == "profile") url = "http://www.themojocollective.com";
//a topic
else if(hashValue == "tmc") url = "http://www.themojocollective.com";
//another
else if(hashValue == "google") url = "http://www.google.com";
//else, default
else hashValue = "default";
//document.write("hello");
document.write('<a href="'+url+'">'+hashValue+'</a>');
window.location.href = url;

</script>
</body>

</html>
It's a matter of adding the right case in the if statement

For anyone who has a website/webserver and would like to use .htaccess, you can add the following line to your file:

RewriteRule ^gmc$ http://www.google.com [R=301,L]

^gmc$ will make it so http://www.yourwebsite.com/gmcredirects to the link following it (I defaulted it to google.com because why not?). Just change google.com to the link of your new profile and you'll be all good to go.

Thanks for the idea Forester!

If the Bible truly is inspired by God, you would think that somebody as omnipotent and all-knowing would have known to get his message out using TCP instead of UDP.

You could just put the html file in your public folder and share that link right?
